Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

heres the story

last year i purchased lobster roaches, when some one told me i would not be disappointed with them if i bought them. i purchased them thinking that they would produce fast and i could feed off adults. well they did produce fast but the adults were super fast and i didnt like feeding them off. they climbed glass and i didnt feel like having them escape the enclosures if i did happen to drop one or 2 while feeding.

i kept the colony in the garage with petroleum smeared on the inside of the bin, and a lid with screen. i kept them there for a month untill i found some one local that wanted them.

about 6 months ago i found a male lobster roach in our bathroom , which is right above the garage. since then i've been seeing lobster roaches flying around outside in our back yard(YES THEY CAN FLY!) i have smashed and killed 3 outside. i have found a few in the water containers for my reptiles. like they wanted to drink it but fell in and died (like crickets) and lastly. heres the big fricken issue

i found a bunch of small nymph lobster roaches in side my dubia colony.

wtf do i do? they seem to be infesting my house. this species is not safe to have at home. i dont know why any one would keep them....

i have never had any thing like this happen with dubias, i've been keeping dubias for 3 years now. i had hissing roaches for a year and didnt have issues with them either....

i already pay for pest controle every 3 months they come out and spray the house and back yard but i am still having issues and now they are infesting my dubia colony.... meaning that now i have glass climbers in my dubia colony....

what do i do now?

Poison baits? I mean up high where the other roaches can't get to them if the lobsters are climbers?

i wouldnt dare put poison inside my dubia colony , i have well over 400$ of nymphs in there. and yes i have spent that much in roaches in the last few months. to re-populate my colony.

We just had terminex come out since we had a pincherbug/spider problem & they did the whole outside of the house & inside excluding reptile room they said its fine for torts/turtles as long as its not sprayed directly on them or there grass/food. I went outside today & found a big dead water but ahand full of dead wolf spiders. Maybe try calling your pest control & see if they have a warentee. Terminex said theyd be back in 3 months also to check up on us... I also have dubia superworms/superworm beatles & mealworms/mealworm beatles in the reptile room. Everything seems fine so far.

if you read the entire first post , i did say this

i do have pest controle come out, and i do have a warrenty. i usto have issues with scorpions, and wolf spiders and wasps. i dont have those issues any more. i've been getting my house sprayed every 3 months for 2 years now. but some how the lobster roaches are still around. and their nymphs found their way into my roach bin since its been out in the garage for the last 3 days.

yes the bin has only been in the garage for 3 days . its very hot and humid and i want them to benefit from it. i have had this colony for a while now, been adding to it for a while by purchasing nymphs. but only when i put them in the garage did i start seeing TINY lobster roach nymphs in the colony.

mm not sure how to completely get rid of them, also i've never seen my lobster fly (flutter jump yes, fly no). first off i would take the dubias out of the garage for the time being just so more don't end up in there. then i would pick up some of the glue traps and put them all along the walls or other dark places. next pick up some boric acid i know it a pretty safe way to kill alot of pest roach also take a look into diatomaceous earth. i hope that helps thank fully up in NJ i haven't had to deal with any escapees that our winter doesn't kill. good luck

I think you need to decide whether you need to keep your dubia colony, or exterminate your entire house, other buildings, and surrounding property to get rid of the lobster roaches. Since they can fly, there is no telling how far they might have spread by now.

:iagree:

Lobster roaches cannot fly only flutter. Are you sure what you are seeing are lobster roaches? I'm pretty sure, American cockroaches are found in Texas and they CAN fly. The smokybrown cockroach is also found there and can fly too, they resemble lobsters. There's a number of others too.

If you want to keep the dubia colony REALLY badly, wait a bit for the other species of cockroach to get a bit bigger and then clean the entire bin really well. Take all of the cockroaches out and sort them. If the other species is big enough, it should be easy to separate from the dubia. Don't wait too long otherwise the other species will drop their egg cases and then you'll have to start all over. You are going to loose quite a few nymphs during this process because there is NO WAY to get them all. After you have all the roaches and egg crates out, you are left with the frass and whatever nymphs you can't get. All of this material should be put into a zip-loc and frozen for a few weeks. Then clean and bleach your dubia bin. After rinsing really well add new egg crates and put your roaches back in with new food and water. You should now have a clean colony of dubia assuming you got all the non-dubia intruders. Put a layer of Vaseline on the OUTSIDE of the bin to keep any new members from trying to join the party from the outside. I would also add another layer or two of mesh covering your ventilation for the dubia colony just in case.

The other thing you should triple check is that you take away all of their sources of food inside your house. Also, try to minimize their access to water (ie damp basement, standing water in the sink, etc.). Dehydration is a big problem for most roach species but especially lobsters.

I hope you get it figured out. I keep about 10 or so species of roach (feeders and otherwise). The only species I have that can climb class are a few hisser species. Other than that I stay away from the class climbing ones because I am worried about escapes that don't die.

Yeah i have been breeding feeders for many years and have never seen a lobste roach fly. You have other issues in your house you need taken vare of or everything you own will be gone...
