In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

But what about daddy's deep pockets and the law suites and the suffering and all that other stuff? How come you were not in school today? Skipping?

Dan. Stop trying to redirect attention away from IBD and just deal with it. Get facts. Post reports. This is way more important to your biz and rep than the lizard deal.

Perhaps the person who received the infected snake should start a new thread. It was a seperate transaction and it could be titled more appropriately.

Luc, you've been a bad buyer

Dan, good luck to you, and for the sake of the community, PLEASE take this seriously and have your collection tested...liver biopsies are expensive, but not compared to losing you reputation and company. You've got a long road ahead, and it may not be a bad idea to suspend sales of boids until you have more information on what's happening.

Michael:

What gave you any idea that I breed boas or colubrids etc or keep any amount of boas? I only breed venomous snakes and sell from friend/dealers offspring and hand select colorful imports to move quickly and don't maintain a boa here more than a couple weeks or so. Don't allow these bozo's who think can post garbage to fool people to think they can harm my companies name fool or deceive you. They are full-time jokers with nothing better to do than pick their behinds and make nasty comments at people they are jealous about. Their foolish attempts are just an insult to your intelligence to con you into thinking otherwise and its a real shame its permitted.

The strangled snake showed bone cells which are expected when a snake is bent about from being strangled. If they were not present, then that would be odd and something to discuss. If it had a virus, then the other snake that strangled it would have a 100 percent chance of contracting the virus and showing some signs soon after, but it did not and their guess work is based on small manhood size. And there would have been some short term symptoms but it was a fat health cat when bagged. Neither that boa nor any boa from that group showed any virus and that transaction happened many months ago. Dozens of health boas have been sold since with not one single complaint, just thanks for healthy and beautiful animals.

Permitted? As in *something* should have NOT been allowed? Pray tell, what would that be and how would it be done? Does your screen have a "truth-o-meter" indicator that somehow is lacking from mine?

What is "permitted" here is for everyone to post *information*, whether it be the truth or completely bogus, and allow the readers to make up their own minds about what to believe or not to believe. What is "permitted" is that everyone has a place where they can do that without some admin or moderator making arbitrary decisions about what should be deleted and what should remain. The *truth* is hidden in each thread somewhere, and it is completely up to the reader to figure out what it is.

Sorry you have a problem with this sort of arrangement. But so far I haven't seen an alternative that is more fair to all parties involved.

The fact that you deal in Boas gave me the idea that you keep Boas.

I recently had a IJ Carpet exhibit neurological problems, which were later attributed to an overheated heat pad. When symptoms did not improve within a short time, and bloodwork and fecal showed no irregularities, the snake was euthanized so that a full necropsy w/ brain and liver examination could be done (NO inclusion bodies were found). The snake was not in direct contact w/ any of my collection, but it entered my house, and I value my collection to that degree.

While studying IBD, I learned that Boas can live indefinitely as carriers, but never exhibit symptoms. In your original statement, you said the snake tested positive for "IBD". "IBD" is a long way off from "bone cells". This is why I posted the way I did. This disease is serious and insidious!

I based my post not only upon my knowledge of IBD, but also because there is already one person with a long running thread on this board directly related to IBD. I knew about the talk of IBD in his collection long before I knew of the BOI. Take it as you will.

Well there is much research and/or ongoing study of this disease. I read somewhere that when the disease/virus is active, it slowly demises the animal and there are many signs/symptoms days/weeks prior to eventual death. However these boas (2.2) were all doing great and quite robust and feeding great and their poops appeared all normal and their behavior was quite normal as both were snappy when I bagged them. The exam also did not find any parasites nor bacteria which was quite interesting. So far there has not been any feedback of the siblings exhibiting any issues or diseases. I did see a photo of the snake the day it was received and there was no doubt it was strangled.

I believe I viewed the same photo(s) and it doesn't appear to me the snake was strangled. It looks dehydrated and emaciated. No signs of what I would consider strangulation at all, but then I dont think I've ever seen a strangled snake before. To me it just looks like you shipped the guy a sick snake.

Alicia has the photo and when she has the chance maybe she can add her opinion of what it looks like to her.

Hey, why don't you post the photo so people can conclude for themselves if they believe its a case of strangulation? If its without any doubt that the snake was strangled it will clearly show in the photo. Isnt this a good idea or are you afraid?

The disease, to my knowledge, manifests itself neurologically, which would not have anything to do with fecals, bacteria, parasites, etc. The information I have read in IBD and its ability to lie dormant in Boas has caused me to quarantine new Boas (I only have a few) for 6 months or more before they are introduced to the rest of my collection (mostly pythons).

All I'm trying to do is recommend that you err on the side of caution, and I'll leave it at that.

Well that snake and its siblings that are thriving have been gone for months. Like I said, the other fellow with a pair reported they are twice their size now and said all is great with them. I have received a dozen or more boas since then and all have been sold with no reports of any neurological or any symptoms or any issues with any types of diseases. Only great thanks so far.

Afraid of what Chuck? If you are implying I put a sick snake in a bag and shipped it and then gave the fellow back more than what he paid for it the next day, then that is just more evidence that you are a nut case.

The customer got more than his money back for the snake that was strangled so I am happy and pleased to show what an honest seller I am. Is that what's bothering you Chuck? You see me making great on a purchase and it just makes you upset doesn't it? Why are you so jealous Chuck? Go back and ask the mirror and tell us all what it says back. Are you still upset I called you a name or two?

Like you already know, the email is gone months ago and the snake was bloated as if something cut off its vent and gas built up in it. I don't know exactly what happened but strangulation was the best guess at the time. The guy got back 150 dollars and paid 125 dollars and he was happy and the other snake turned out great as did its siblings.

So if he was happy, and I am happy, why can't you be happy?

Is it because you are a miserable rotten person in general or did you take lessons from someone?

I am thinking, the reason some are not happy is that you posted in your own words tht the report showed IBD. If true, the arrangements with the individual buyer pale in comparison with the possible threat to the industry if a vendor who has that in his collection continues to ship other boids (you said you have subsequently sold dozens of boas) or if this customer trades/sells boids from his collection.

I think it is important that you post the report; and if as you say the snakes are well, it may be worth the cost to you to have them retested and post that report also.

Dan, I don't think folks here are hounding you for no reason, I genuinely believe that since you yourself said the report came back showing IBD, for the sake of the reptile community you should share what info you have until either the report is confirmed or a veterinarian explains that the report may have somehow been in error. To continue trading in boids after you had a report like that without a full investigation by a veterinarian, and if the report is in fact valid, may launch the disease so far and wide that containment may be increasingly difficult.

Post the report, Dan.

The animal looks like it didnt have a good shed, and to me dehydrated and also thin, the spine looks peaked. The skin looks flappy near the neck, but that could also be because of the dry skin that is stuck to it.

I dont see how a boa can have a bad shed like that unless it was kept in improper conditions, or a dry environment. ( understandably it happens sometimes to everyone sometimes) No attempt to remove the shed looks like it was made though, as well.

Lucille:

Just got off the horn with a vet who said that inclusion cells could be discovered in a snake that was strangled and later died from the trauma. High Five.

Dan

Who are you calling chicken little, there Dick Breath?
While we're on the topic of names, why do you choose the moniker of "Ravensgait"?
Do you see yourself as one of those unwelcome opportunistic carrion feeding pests, waddling along after filling it's belly with carrion?

I don't think I'm the only who is not so curious to know how another man could tell what another mans breath smells like after there had been a penis in it, but then I think your photobucket does show you were a navy man. It explains a lot.
