Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. In the middle of February I engaged in a trade deal with Mandy Parrish (who also goes by Mandy Frye).  She posted up here on FaunaClassifieds in the trades forum offering the following "Topic: 7-8ft female red tail for trade".  Here's the content of her post (whoops!! The content of her post must have been deleted only the subject/header is there).  In a nutshell she advertised a TAME, Healthy, 7-8 foot normal columbian red-tail, FEMALE.  I was offering her 2 young leucistic rat snakes and a rubber boa.  Without getting into all the details (see below for a complete transcript of all our email exchanges) I shipped her my animals (regardless of the whole who ships first issue it's irrelevant in the case) everything was cool.  She was very happy.  I (actually my wife was home and accepted the animal) received the boa and my wife put the bag in the cage unknotted the knot, and was attempting to open the bag a little to see her and let her out.  Well the next thing she knew the boa tagged her (pretty bad, borderline a couple of stitches).  To my wife's DISGUST she noticed that the boa was COMPLETELY INFESTED WITH MITES.  Not like one or two or even ten or twenty.  But 100's.  In her eyes, in every orafice, etc.  We treated her for the mites and they are 100% gone (though, my wife and I made our own newbie mistake and put her (when she first arrived and not knowing about the mites) in the cage (in the bag)near one of our 8 foot boas and she ended up with mites also, all animals are mite free now.  Phewww&#33<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>.  Now remember, she advertised that the boa is TAME.  Now before anyone starts nailing me to the post, I do understand that animals get very stressed out and have more of a tendancy to hiss, bite, etc.  BUT, almost a month later, if I go to clean the cage, feed her, etc. (NOT EVERYTIME BUT WAY MORE THAN A "TAME" ANIMAL SHOULD, my other 8+ foot boa is "TAME".  I can go in her cage move her around, handle her, etc.  Not a peep or sign of aggression.) she hisses and strikes once or twice before I can secure her safely in a temporary cage.  Again this isn't a big deal BUT IT'S NOT WHAT SHE ADVERTISED.  Lastly, she advertised a 7-8 foot boa.  The animal I received is about 6 feet.  AGAIN, NOT WHAT SHE ADVERTISED.  Oh yeah, and stupid me, again, I even gave her $20 dollars (not her request just because I am a nice guy and don't mind splitting the shipping cost)towards shipping since it cost about double what my costs were (RED FACE).

I have to add it's pretty embarrassing owning up to my newbie mistakes here on the forum in a public arena, but how else will I learn but to make the mistakes own up to them honestly and move on.

I will end with this.  I sent this as part of an email exchange with Rachel Rodgers and I stand by my statement.  Here it is:

P.S.  Even though all this really rattles my cage there is one thing I know that Mandy or anyone can't ever take from me.  I may be a newbie (herping for about 2 years) but I know how to take care of my animals (i.e. husbandry, handling, etc.) and can see when other people aren't taking care of their animals.  Plus, I am a VERY honest, caring, loving, considerate, and up front person.  In addition, I can admit my mistakes, errors, short comings, as well as learn from them.  I will leave it at that.

Please see below for all the email messages Mandy and I exchanged.  Also note, the messages start at the very bottom in chronological order moving upward.

Thanks for listening.

Please!!!!!  Don't talk to me about being lied to.  You did plenty of that already!!!  Your last email said that you didn't know she had mites otherwise you would never have gone through with the deal.  Well, I have to tell you she was SO INFESTED with mites that the only way she could have gotten that was was to have had them for AWHILE, YOU HAD TO HAVE KNOWN!!!!   She was such a beloved pet that you allowed that to happen, right?   Mandy, one other thing.  Don't continue to email me your bull#### okay.  I now know that this animal was most likely a rescue.  Take the CAPTIVE BORN AND HEALTHY animals I gave you and keep your ####ing trap shut.  Or, tell me, will I see my animals on your site one day (http://www.angelfire.com/super/unwantedpets/Frontpage.html)?

I traded you my snake with the knowledge that you were going to keep her and breed her..If I had known that you were just going to turn around and trade her away I would never have let you have her. She was our pet and was very much loved. We did not want to part with her but felt it would be better for her to be with someone that needed her for breeding or such.
I feel that I have been lied to and, have doomed our pet to be traded over and over again through many homes. She deserves better than that.....

Mandy,

I did not ever receive you last email. I sent you the email after I received the boa and, to my knowledge, never heard back from you.

Hi Mandy,

The boa arrived this morning.  I have to say that I am pretty angry, disappointed, and/or confused!!!!!!!!!!!!   To start you advertised that she was 7 - 8 feet long.  In actuality she is 6 feet bordering 7 feet.  Big difference when you want to potentially breed.  BUT, the biggest issue is that she came FULL OF MITES.  This is unacceptable!!  In all our conversations you NEVER mentioned she had mites.  You only commented that she was healthy and eating.  I would find it difficult you would miss the fact that she had mites.  Especially since she was COVERED with them.  Plus, not telling me about this jeopardized all my other animals.  Most of my other animals are high-end very expensive animals and would be disasterous if they would (or could have) have mites, I will/might have to isolate all of them.  In addition I have three cats that could be comprised.  Not to mention my wife and me.

I have been nothing but COMPLETELY HONEST with you about EVERYTHING (i.e. not eating, etc.).  Plus, I was trying to be nice and I sent you $20 towards the shipping cost since it was double what I had to pay.  Now I will have to purchase medication to rid her of the mites.  Plus, you never mentioned the lesion on her nose and underbelly.  I understand this animal came from someone to you BUT, all this information would have been VERY HELPFUL upfront.  I am a very honest person and believe in full disclosure, especially with dealing with any animals.

Also, you mentioned that she was/is tame.  She lashed out and bit my wife upon putting the bag (with her in it) in her cage.  Basically she put her in and opened the top of the bag.  As she was pulling her hand away she bit her.  It was a pretty nasty bite also.  Granted, this can totally be from the shipping.  It's not unusual for a snake to exhibit this type of behavior after shipping.  BUT, you have to understand.  I feel I have not been told the truth about other details and I am now questioning whether her tameness is true.

Lastly,  I sent you three perfect animals, in perfect condition expecting the same from you.  To me at this point it doesn't seem what you advertised and commented on in our emails is what I actually received.  Though, and I'm sure you agree, that you received exactly what you expected BASED ON THE FACTUAL and TRUTHFUL INFORMATION I PROVIDED.

Josh

    Hi Mandy,

Great!!!!! I'm so glad they all are eating. Especially after traveling. What have you been feeding the boa? I have about 12 medium rats ready to go at anytime. Plus, I am planning on purchasing large and/or jumbo's very soon. My existing large female boa at her last two last week. I will probably go purchase a dozen or two to have on hand. I am also purchasing a small freezer within the month. It's funny, the pinkies, fuzzys, even adult mice are okay in the freezer and don't take up that much space. Now with the medium, large, and jumbo rats it's a little too much. Plus, my wife will be thrilled when I walk in the door with a new freezer, LOL.

    Talk to you later,

I am going to try the boa again today..see if she is interested..won't push her though since she will be traveling on Tuesday...just hate for her to leave on an empty stomach. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

      Hi Mandy,

Sorry for the delay. Things got really busy here. Here's when they ate last, as well as, their feeding and shed history below.

Female Leucistic Rat Snake (a.k.a Frankie) - 2/23/2002
      Male Leucistic Rat Snake (a.k.a Johnny ) - 2/21/2002
      Rubber Boa (a.k.a Wubbie) - 2/21/2002

Also, Frankie last shed on 1/15/2002. She's due for another very soon. If you remember I had mentioned when we first discussed the trade that she hadn't eaten for two or three weeks which was leading up to when she "should" have shed. Plus, now, with the transport (i.e. stress) I'm not sure how it will manifest (i.e. sometimes they have a stress shed which in this case could be her normal shed).

I hope you all are doing well.

I will talk to you soon.

Phewww!!!! I'm so happy that they arrived alive, warm, active, and well. I feel so much relief having one successful shipping under my belt. Especially with the weather being the way it is/was.

I meant to send their eating/shedding info yesterday but forgot. I am at work now but when I arrive home this evening I will email you what they have been eating, as well as, when they shed from when I got them up until the last time I fed them.

No problem on the shipping $$$.

Excellent, I can't wait for Wednesday!!!

Just wanted to let you know that everyone is here safe and sound and are settling into their new homes. They are some great snakes! This is my first rubber boa in person. Very cool!
They were warm and toasty and very active when I opened them. You did a great job packing them. I am going to let them get settled in and then I will get to know them better.
All is set to send the big girl on Tuesday. Just let me know if anything changes on your end for that day. I will be happy to send her whenever you need. Thank you for the money towards her shipping costs!
         Thanks again!
         Mandy
PS when was the last day these guys ate? I think you told me but I can't remember..that way I can keep them on about the same schedule.

Hi Mandy,

Sounds good.  How's the weather there?  The heat packs I put in there are good for 40 hours.  I opened them at about 7:30 am Wednesday morning.  They should be okay though.  Especially if they are in a building waiting to be shipped from warehouse to delivery point.

Yes, definitely let me know if you receive any further information.  I will also let you know if anything changes with regard to Tuesday.

Talk to you later,
Josh

P.S. Does the shipping process/thing get easier as you do it more.  This being my first time, I have found it pretty nerve racking with regard to me being anal about tracking and making sure all the details are in order (containers, heat packs, shipping materials in general, etc.).  I worry so much about the animals and that they arrive alive and well.  They are such innocent creatures and we (herpers) put them in these situations (with all love, care, and good intentions) and I would hate to know that something I did added to their demise.

Our mail has already come for today. I went and checked about 10<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>0am this morning and they were not there. I was just getting ready to email you when I got your message..Bloomington is about 25 miles from here. I am not sure if they will come today or not since our mail truck has already come. I am going to go down and ask though. They may still bring it since it is express. If not they will be here first thing in the morning. I will keep you updated....
Tuesday will be fine sending the boa. Just let me know if anything changes.
Thanks,

Ya no problem picking them up....let me explain will make it easier <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>...we live in a very tiny town only about oh 20-25 houses. We don't have anything here except a small postal building where our mail comes to. There is one person that works there...That is where your guys will arrive. I can walk there if I have to. Can see the building from my house. But to send anything we have to go to the next town over about 10 miles away through the country. Our building does not have outgoing mail. Pretty weird and a big pain in the tush! *smiles* One of the only bad things about moving here...
So yes I will pick them up the moment they arrive..will check the tracking number so I know right when they get there.
The only thing is I have to try and get the 10 miles in the morning to get boa girl on her way...and it is still coming down like a blizzard outside..BUURRR! I keep getting this urge to put on a christmas cd! Anyway....I will let you know if I am ! able to make it out ...Can't tell you much until I see how things look in the morning..

    Mandy,

Will you be able to get out to accept the animals? Do you think it would be better to wait? The reason being is that I was going to ship them out to you early tomorrow morning (8<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>0 am EST). I'm not so worried about the cold (while in transit) but rather sitting in the cold post office for a prolonged amount of time. I will be putting in a 40 hour heat pack.

    Let me know.

Josh,
Should be ok on this end. I checked for here. Highs in mid to upper 20's and lows down to 10 for those two days...we were supposed to get a ton of snow, but so far only a little...so may not be as bad as what they were calling for..
Don't think it will be a problem..she should not be in tran. to long...I am going to replan some of her packing to account for the colder weather...
We are all set I think.. you have my address right? and I have yours?

        Hi Mandy,

Yes, everything looks good. My delivery of deli containers and heat packs are arriving tomorrow. Snow near you doesn't make a difference for me. I checked www.weatherchannel.com and Wednesday and Thursday here have a high of 46 and low of 26. No rain or snow though. What about on your end? Do you feel the snow impact the shipping (i.e. timing, etc.)?

I'm a go for shipping if you are.

        Let me know.

          Hi Mandy,

I realized I was incorrect with regard to the shipping date I mentioned in my last email. Would it be possible to ship one week from today (2/27/02) for delivery on Thursday (2/28/02)? Also, were you able to get the shipping rate? I would be able to contribute some of the shipping cost (would $20 be okay, I could put it in an envelope inside the box).

Hi Mandy,

No problem on the cups of water.  I ordered the containers and heat pack from LLL Reptiles online yesterday.  I'm going to give them a call today to get a tracking number and ETA.  I also have two other snakes coming (a male Ghost Boa and a female DH Ghost) so I am trying to coordinate all of them arriving on the same day.  If okay with you I'd like to ship them to you a week from this coming Thursday (2/28/02) to arrive at your door Friday (3/1/02).

Let me know if you are okay with this.

Talk to you later,
Josh

Josh,
I would say that is all A-ok...I don't think I would bother with the little cups of water though..they are most likely going to spill and then the poor guys..oops and gal would have to spend their whole trip wet. Not much fun I would think! <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> It is a kind thought though.

Everything else sounds good just let me know what day is best and when you are ready. Have you tryed walmart for the heat packs? Hunting section...

You are right USPS is cheaper by far than UPS. UPS was going to be about $70-80 for the big girl. I have not checked USPS yet. Will do that though. If we do use USPS then I would not bother with the labels. Some of the offices I have heard are giving people a hard time about mailing reptiles since the Sept 11 thing. So you might be better off just to stay low key about what is in the box just to be safe.
Keep me updated about how your search for packing stuff goes and then we will go from there..

Hi Mandy,

Would USPS be a better way to go. I was actually just reading in Reptiles (a back issue) that USPS is one of the more reliable and better priced overnight services to go with. Plus it would be probably going directly to your "post office", as opposed to, having UPS have to deliver to the "post office". At 5lbs (which it probably won't be I just used as a max) the Express Mail (to you by noon the next day) delivery charge is $24.85 (via USPS).

Also, with regard to packaging I'm going to do the following.
1. Place the snake (each individually) in a appropriate sized deli container with 1 or 2 paper towels, as well as, a little cup of water (like the size of a, don't laugh, Pepto Bismol or Robotussin cup, you know the one that comes with the bottle.

2. Place the deli containers snuggly inside the box which is either insulated and padded with Styrofoam and/or newspaper (I think I have one of each at home).

3. Staple the heat pack to the top on the inside somewhere, or deep into the newspaper so that they don't get "cooked".

4. Seal it up. Using the USPS should I put or make labels that say "Live Harmless Animals"?

Also, I have to find a place to purchase the heat pack, as well as, either purchase or acquire some deli containers. Both shouldn't be a problem.

Let's set up the shipping for sometime next week. That way it will give me a little time to get the deli containers and heat packs. I just called a few places near me but they don't carry them. I'm going to order them online. Which could take a few days for the products to literally get in my hands. Usually Tuesday is a good day to ship as my wife is home on Wednesdays to accept the package. Plus, I will try to take the day off from work.

Let me know if you have any criticisms, suggestions, comments, etc. about my packaging methods. I'm open and just want the animals to arrive safe and sound.

Talk to you later,

Josh

Hello,
That is how I got my Uro also. As far as heat packs that is a big YES. That way they will stay all          nice and toasty. So you are familiar with packing? If you need any info just let me know.
I will check on shipping costs for the big girl here in just a bit..see if I can't get a rough idea.
My address is..(lets see UPS only delievers to home addresses....??)

Mandy Parrish
RR 7 Box 956
Spencer, IN 47460

That is my parents house..we live in a small town only about 25 houses so we don't have a house address just boxes at the little tiny building they call a post office! *smiles* But I can be there to pick them up no problem.
Let me know what a good day for her would be. That way I can work it out to get my husbands help to pack this big girl up.
Thanks,

Mandy

Hi Mandy,

I'm okay with shipping UPS. I just received a Uromastyx via UPS and it had "Live Harmless  Animal" labeled on the package. I'm sure they knew what it was. I guess as long as they only know it's a "Live Harmless Animal", as opposed to, a "Live Harmless Snake". With regard to heat. Will you/should I put a heat pack in with the package? As far as packaging goes, I have boxes and materials from when I received my snakes that I will used to ship to you (just have to find an appropriate sized new deli container). I believe it will probably cost me roughly $25 - $35 for shipping (overnight priority).

What is yours? Also, I need to schedule it for a day when my wife will be home accept the delivery. I'll confirm with her which days she will be home.

Hello again,
Sorry I did not get right back to you I had to run to my parents house the next town over. My dad   is having some treatments done for a nerve disease he has so I needed to check up on him. Anyway...  Have you ever shipped a snake before? If so what method do you use?
If not what method would you want to use? I have shipped some snakes through USPS and UPS but they will not knowingly ship snakes...so you are on your own as far as guarantees go. I have bought and sold before but this is my first trade also. I would think that we would both be responsible for our own shipping although since the boa would cost a good deal more to ship than your three any help you would want to give on shipping costs would also be appreciated.
Can you let me know where you are located that way I can start getting a rough idea on shipping costs...

Thanks,
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

The rubber boa was born in July 2000 (making him about 7 1/2 months old). I have attached 4 pics of the rubber boa. Plus, I have attched 4 additional pics I took this morning of the rat snakes (2 of the male Texas Rat and 2 of the female Texas Rat).

Yes, this is my first trade. My question was about how we deal with shipping, etc.

Thanks and talk to you later,
Josh

Well I think we would be even on that. The boa has been a bit slow in eating as well. She had not eaten for about oh a month or so. Then yesterday out of the blue she took down a F/T jumbo rat no problem..?? So guess she just was not hungry...lol

I think I would be willing to trade..do you have a pic of the rubber boa..and how old was it again?  I know you said somewhere along the line but can't remember.
Also were you the one that said this was your first trade? I have talked to so many people in the last few days!

Thanks,
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Yes I have and she has given her thumbs up. I also want to be up front in saying that the female rat snake still has not accepted food. It's her third week. Though, she still hasn't shed. Again, to be honest it concerns me a little because this behavior is different then normal. Usually she would only go one week of refusing food when shedding. With this knowledge if you want to move forward I am game.

If you want to give me a call so we can discuss please feel free to give me a call anytime.

Hi Mandy,

You hit the nail on the head. I really want to have (my dream) a pair of albino, snow, and sunglow boas, as well as, all the boas I have now. I think the albino, snow, and sunglows are beautiful animals.

I'll tell you what. I have to speak with my wife (we do this stuff together) in the morning about it first but I would be willing to include the Rubber Boa. He has been feeding on one pinkie every four days, never had any problems feeding him. The Rubber Boas are know to be difficult feeders at first. For example, many times after being born they have to be cooled down for close to three months. Only when they are warmed up do they start to feed. Even then breeders have to start them feeding vis the "Split Brain" method. This may not be true for all Rubber Boas but at least the ones that I have spoken to people about. Also, he is about 10 - 12 inches long. I don't have any pics but can send you some if you would like.

Either way let me know when you have made a decision.

Thanks for the latest pic.

Josh

Hello again Josh,

As far as her age..I have no idea to be honest...
Sounds like you have a nice snake there for future breeding! I would love to have an albino boa one day..
As far as the trade. I am still waiting to hear from a couple of interested parties before I decide. I have had quite a few good offers for this girl. I am also hoping that I might be able to set something up with who I trade her to to get one of her babies if she is bred.
I really hate to part with her but need the room. I am also wanting to get started into corn breeding. I think they are just the neatest snakes. That is why I was looking for some in trade. I like fool got rid of most of my corns a few years ago so now am starting from scratch.
If I had anything to trade I would love to have a rubber boa. They are SO cool. I have never been able to find one here local. Have been watching our show but no one here breeds them.
I also have a male uro mali...aren't they great. I hope to find a femal! e and maybe some others at some point also.
I am sending along another pic of the boa. I should get back with you in the morning most likely. Depends on when I hear from those people and what my schedule is like in the morning.

Thanks!
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Thanks for all the info. I have another question, how old do you think she is (ball park)? I have a 3 - 4 foot 18 month old male Columbian Hypo that I could attempt to breed with her now (probably won't produce anything and will be practice for the male newbie). I have him in with my 7 1/2 foot female normal columbian right now but doesn't seem like it will be a match this year. He's still young though. Plus, I purchased a normal male that is possible het for Anery, Snow, and possibely Albino (from Rich Ihle). So I would have a nice mate for her in the future.

Are you interested in making the trade? If so, how do we handle shipping (This will be my first trade)? Also, I have a male Rubber Boa if you are interested in any other trades. Basically, I want to work strictly with my corn snakes (I have an Anery B (Charcoal) female and Yellow Cremsicle female, plus a pair of Kisatchies, a male Yellow Cremsicle, and a male blood red coming this May/June) and BCI's for now. Though, I also have a Brazilian Rainbow boa and a pair of Mali Uromastyx. I am also interested in monitors (Red & Yellow ackies, Storrs, etc. the smaller ones).

Let me know.

I really appreciate your time.

Josh

Hi Josh
thank you for the pics they were great.
I don't know anything about her genetics I am afraid. I had considered breeding her myself but have a few other projects that I would rather work on right now. Besides the fact that I don't have a boyfriend for her.

I got her from a friend locally and we did not get into specifics about where he got her. (I believe she lived in a one snake home) She is fine when handled but can get a bit jumpy when excited. My friend said she did strike at him once but she never has with us. She just put down a F/T jumbo rat this afternoon with no problem. I have not had one bit of trouble with her eating although she does tend to go a little bit longer spans in between feedings than some of my others. At this point I have no idea on her weight..I truthfully just have not had reason to weigh her. As far as being proven?? at her size she could be but not by me or my friend that I got her from. Before that??? Anything goes.! ..

Thanks
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Thanks for your email and the pics. Yeah, those digital cameras can be tricky sometimes. I'm still getting used to mine also. Here is a pic of each one (Frankie1.jpg=female & Johnny1.jpg=male). This pair is unrelated and about 5-6 months old. I want to be honest in telling you that they both have been eating great up until about two weeks ago the female started refusing food. She could be in shed (it's sometimes hard to tell they don't go blue in the traditional sense. Their eyes gloss over, as opposed to going blue. Definitely noticeable though.). They started out on 1 f/t mouse pink every 4 days and now I have them up to 2. Oh yeah, they are from Don Soderbergs stock.

Is your female a BCI (Boa c. Imperator - Columbian) or BCC (Boa c. Constrictor)? How friendly/tame is your female? What do you currently have her feeding on? You mentioned in the ad she is 8ft, do you know how much she weighs? Is she proven? Do you know anything about her genetics?

Take a look at my pics and let me know. Either way thanks again for your email and pics.

Hello..here are some pics of the girl...sorry about the quality..a new dig. camera is in my future...
Do you have pics of your two?

ZZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzz .... lol just kidding
well you sur did lay outALL the facts in this one , the only thing i can say that isnt self explanitory is that no matter what ALLWAYS keep newbies to the home away from oldtimers , i understand that you may not have known the mites were there  ( i always check out newbies in a different room for that cause). but esp in this case you could have GREATLY increased your chance to give your high end boas something due to mites . ok  but regardless  the post was good info and full of details.. lol ( maybe to many) j/k  i do beleive ms frye/parrish is holding the nails and hammer over her own coffin in the herp world  good luck on taming the beast last hint(thick leather gloves )lol take care

Allen,

With regard to the high-end boas they weren't infected/infested with anything, thankfully!!!  I have to say, I was flipping out especially with the whole IBD thing surfacing.  I found myself being anal about watching them to see any symptoms (just like I would do for myself if I though I might have an illness, virus, etc.), searching the net for info on IBD, etc.  I'm bet there's a battery of other mite related diseases, virus' also.  I guess that's the positive from the whole experience.  It's lead me begin learning more about mites and how they impact/effect snakes, etc.

I definitely learned a VERY valuable lesson (the crazy part is I knew this but didn't practice it this time around, dumb, dumb, dumb!!&#33<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>.  ANY/ALL new herps go straight to quarentine in a different room (as you stated) until all is well and the coast is clear.

LOL, about the thick leather gloves.  I have considered it just to make life a little easier with her.  But, at the same time it's pretty challenging sometimes which always gets the adrenalin pumping.

Thanks for your reply,
Joshua Ingram

that mandy person is definitely an odd one..i wrote to her asking the price on that snake..she didnt seem to have a price..as i hate trades i just wanted to buy the thing.
then after the one price email she writes and tells me thanks for the offer..furthermore i then get an email saying she is getting some corns she really wanted..
i proceed with..gee thats great..and i found a seller with a pricetag so i could purchase versus beating around the bush and talking right past each other.
i could tell it was a pass situation and onward i went..
as i read this..i thank god again i missed another great deal i passed up..lol

For more info on her, read this link:
http://www.reptilemall.com/miceonice/discus/index.html
This isn't the first time a "friend" has given her an animal. She was trying to trade some ferrets before and claimed the same thing. Seems she has lots of "friends" who ask her to take their animals for free and then trade them. If it were a friend, why didn't she contact him/her to answer any questions Josh had? I bet her "friends" would feel the same way she did about giving the animals to her only to be traded off again and again. Something to think about. Sorry people, but I have been dealing with her lies for 6 months now. Sorry this happened to you Josh. Hopefully this won't put you against trades too much, just make you more prepared <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

****ADDITIONAL EMAIL EXCHANGE****

ok I will try again then..sorry if it sounds blunt I am just going for the short version...I have sent it about 4 times I think...

Anyway..in my previous emails I said that I had no idea that she had mites..if I had of know I would never have sent her. I can promise you that. I was not the one that handled her. My husband did and truthfully he has not even had her out that much lately. That is one reason we decided to find a new home for her. He just did not have the time for her anymore. With the new job and everything. I have checked my other snakes and have not found any of them to have mites...I am going to recheck them today since it has been a few days. Most of my snakes are in seperate areas of our home so they stay apart.
On her length. I was told that was how long she was..she looked about that so I never measured her myself. So that one is my fault...
ummm..what else...oh her biting your wife..I am sorry I hope your wife is ok?...she never str! uck at either of us??? I would say that it would be because of shipping stress like you said.
What else...oh the mark on her nose...I am pretty sure I told you..maybe it was in one of the lost emails that never went through..??? I did not know about the one on her belly. The place on her nose she had when we got her.
I think that is everything...I never meant to be dishonest to you. I am really happy with the snakes you sent me they were just as you told me they would be.
Again like I said if I had known she had mites I would never have went through with the deal...I would not have done that to you or anyone...

Yes I did get my ferrets from a friend. For "free"..no I payed her money for them and the cage. It was agreed upon before I took them that I might try to find a home for them. Since I already had 5 of my own. She no longer wanted them and their health was declining.
(Quote..."If it were a friend, why didn't she contact him/her to answer any questions Josh had?"..(end quote)
What question did Josh have that I could have contacted him and ask? I already told him neither of us new anything about her genetics..what else was there? Everything else I was able to tell him myself.

Despite what some people want to make me appear to be, I am not a awful non caring person. If I had know there was a problem she would have remained with us and been treated for it. Also she was not aggressive with us. Going on what Josh said above..I cleaned her cage, fed her, remove her from her cage, everything. Never had one problem. Not one hiss, nothing?? My two year old son even pet her. I don't feel that any snake could have that drastic a change of attitude. Her length. I was told when I got her that she was right at or a bit over 7ft. I never measured her myself. She appeared about that so..I took her as that. I never had a reason to do it myself...
I have offered to do whatever it takes to right this problem. As I do feel badly about it if it was true she had mites. My husband packed her up for shipping so it had been at least..oh a week since I had really look at her. My dad has been going through treatments for a nerve disease so I have been pretty busy with him. I would have even been willing to take her back if it came to that. I have still not gotten a response back from Josh.

DISCLAIMER: please dont sue me ... you wont get anything  im poor lol , also im only goin by what is posted on this thread .
Mandy he says the snake was covered in mites ?

Josh were you able to get pics to prove this ?

Mandy you say you worked with this snake everyday ( or there abouts) so i find it hard to swallow that you didnt see a mite takeover of the snake?

Josh if you did receive it infested in mites the right thing to do is  or would have been to try to the best of your ability to document this( i know mites are probably hard to get a pic of ) but attempts make a difference .

Last .02
i know snakes can have attitude changes due to shipping xcess handling xcetra  also from new and fast paced enviroments but usally "should revert back to the normal attitudes.within a reasonable time period
ok im done with my questioning , and if i missed the point ...OOPS sue me ..WAIT I DIDNT MEAN THAT  ... lol just askin ?'s

If Josh says that she had mites then I will believe him. How it went unnoticed by me I don't know. But...I am sorry for that and have stated as such. If I had known I would not have sent her. That is a fact.

(quote)"Mandy you say you worked with this snake everyday ( or there abouts) so i find it hard to swallow that you didnt see a mite takeover of the snake?"

Yes I did work with her some..but not for a while due to my dads illness. That is one of the reasons we were looking for a home for her because I felt we were not spending enough time with her. She was really more my husbands snake as I am not really into boas that much.  I did take care of some of her daily care,  but my husband did most of it.
As far as her attitude change I have no idea. She was always fine with my husband or anyone else that handled her. My husband used to sit on the couch with her and watch tv...?<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Alan,

No I didn't take pictures and I was literally saying the same EXACT thing to my wife last night.  WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PICTURES.  Unfortunately that was the one thing we didn't do.  At the time when we received her I was on jury duty and my wife was home taking care of the boa.  After getting bitten by her, as you will see below it was a pretty nasty bite she just dealt with treating her wound and getting the boa in to a Sterilite container of water to begin treatment right away.  Of couse when I arrived home I could have taken pictures of the mite infested water but I didn't.  I wasn't even thinking about it because I was so angry.  BUT, ALAN I am 110% confident that if I would have taken pictures that IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT TO GET PICTURES THAT SHOWED THEM.  YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MISS THEM.

Mandy,
You state that you offered to make it right.  I don't remember this.  Unless I am missing something by you saying it here you are offering to do something, which is too late at this point.  I would NEVER do business with you again UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!  The fact of the matter is that ALL I CAN SEE IS THAT YOU STATE THAT SENT ME EMAILS THAT NEVER WENT THROUGH.  PRETTY DARN CONVENIANT!!!!

Plus, Mandy your husband doesn't know what mites are?  You said he packed her.  Now IF ANYTHING

UGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!  HIT THE WRONG KEYS.

I will continue.

Plus, Mandy your husband doesn't know what mites are?  You said he packed her.  Now IF ANYTHING YOUR HUSBAND SAW THE MITES WHEN PACKED HER UP FOR SHIPPING.  This leads me to a couple of questions.

Do you communicate with your husband?
Why wouldn't he have told you so you could warn me?
Is he an ethical person?
Why would he allow an animal out of the facility if it had mites?
Why do you continually make excuses saying that you husband did packed the boa, etc.

If you are selling and repersenting the animal it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.  I don't want to hear that your husband packed her up, etc.  I'm WASN'T dealing with him I WAS DEALING WITH YOU.  I could say, oh I didn't take pictures because my wife got bit, etc. (which I did) but I also stated that I could have taken pictures but I didn't because I was FULL OF ANGER and not thinking about it or sanely at the time.  I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for my own actions and representations of ME whereever I go or when I communicate with others about selling, buying, etc.

Ok Mandy after the post from you and the one from Josh .. this  is my opinion please dont take it wrong , but  just for what it is worth ok .
Heres the deal i had a 14 retic last year  i was selling due to i was getting out of large burms and  retics and focusing on JUST boas now  i did interact with ALL my snakes on a dailey basis .  For the retic i found a buyer inPA  we talked for a week on the deal ,  when i had her posted for sale she was in good health  due to a feeding error on my part ( roosters ) not sure if thats how she got them but she ended up with mites , now on a dark snake i will say mites can be very hard to see  and can sometimes go unseen  due to there size ( ity bity ) well after we had agreed on the deal she had eatin and i told the buyer i would like to wait till sh had time to digest food . , which  he agreed that was best . so after the time  he had already mailed off his M/O i noticed a mite on her  while cleaning her cage i then IMMEADATELY contacted him and told him i had found them on her and that if he wanted to i would gladley refund his $  or not cash it untill i was sure the problem was corrected. Now keep in mind this was a 14 footer. he said he still wanted the snake  but would wait till i had cleared the problem up . so i tucked his M/O in my desk and sat on it . i then went through the process of ridding mites VIA mineral oil , i know some ppl say its bad but i have always had 100% success using it with no problems other then ( sometimes the next shed being dry/ flakey )i xplained the procedure to the buyer and what to expect on the following shed cycle . he agrred it was fine with him . so i did my treatment and it took 3-4 days and the mites were falling off like ripe apples on a tree.  Ithen contacted him and told him to the best i could tell i had fixed the problems w/ mites. and would be shipping on a agreed date ( this was in Nov of 01) i ythen purchased 3 40 hr heat packs and built a nice wooden box that i KNEW there would be lil or no chance of any damage to the snake during shipment she was packed in a large enough box inside the wooden crate i built and bagged properly , heat packes placed  in news paper  and then foam packed around her in the inner box to keep from being bounced and knocked around . Then i drilled 1" holes on 4 sides  2 on each side  then took of to the shippers place  this whole procedure ended up costing me a xtra 25$ due to the wooden crate i built to ship her in ( i could have easily done it in dbl boxes but i choose this to ensure as safe as trip as possible) for his snake . so i guess in a long about way  what im getting to is if this was your husbands snake regardless of that you were the one that made the deal right? if your husband held him and your kid did also it should have been your responsibility to ensure what you portrayed was what the buyer/ trader got .  ven in dark snakes  with mites allthough you may not see them by watching them i have ALLWAYS been able to see them or find one on me when holding  them . so whoever did the packing of the snake should have in some way noticed them  cause its my exoerience that esp if you are packing a snake in a bag ( and we know how much they like theat ...NOT AT ALL )someone should have seen this  esp if Josh claims if he would have taken a picture  they would have been very obvious  in the water to see . Iguess  the moral here is  always check ... dbl check ... and then check again to make sure what you tll someone is what they get . again im not bashing / or saying bad things just simply stating what i and several other do in there dealings when portraying our animals for sale  is make sure they get what they think there gettin even if it means skipping out on a deal due to the fact a un expected circumstances arises , im sure someone would rather  come here and say " i had a deal with so & so  but they found out this was wrong and gave me the opportunity to make my choice in accepting as is or  me letting them make  th problem right before the sale and then i got what i wanted in good shape "  ok im stepping down now .
hava good one  and hope that in the future  some of this will be of use to you .

You know I gotta add my 0.02 when I see something that does not add up

Okay....you did not have time for one (1) snake....So you decided to trade her in for three (3) more?     okay I just got confused....either that or I stumbled onto a really weak and made up excuse. (otherwise known as a little white lie)

You traded with Josh.  You did not adopt her out to him.
Traded -- got snakes in exchange....therefore Josh can do with her as he pleases.

Ok where to start? I will try and put quotes so you will known who and what I am talking about..

(quote Josh..."You state that you offered to make it right.  I don't remember this")
I sent this as part of an email that I sent you and never got a response from. When you told me later that you never got that email I sent a short version of it. I believe that is the one you posted in your book of emails....I have also since stated it here I believe and at MOI.

(quote Josh..."The fact of the matter is that ALL I CAN SEE IS THAT YOU STATE THAT SENT ME EMAILS THAT NEVER WENT THROUGH.  PRETTY DARN CONVENIANT!!!!")
If you will remember and look back at your emails some of these email problems were before any snakes were ever sent. Why would I be claiming to send emails that I did not really send when no snakes had even been sent yet? What would that gain me?

(quote Josh...."Plus, Mandy your husband doesn't know what mites are?")
Yes he does know that snakes can have mites, but no, he has never seen them so he would have no idea what he was looking at. I have seen them on snakes at work at the vets office, but we have never had them on our snakes before.

(quote Josh....AND MY ANSWERS...
Do you communicate with your husband? Yes of course!
Why wouldn't he have told you so you could warn me? He never said anything about any problems with her. Even when I asked him about it after receiving your email. He said he never noticed anything...
Is he an ethical person?    <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>???
Why would he allow an animal out of the facility if it had mites? First it is our home not a facility. And he would also not have sent her if he had known.
Why do you continually make excuses saying that you husband did packed the boa, etc...Because everyone seems to think that I should have magically known there was a problem with her when I had not even looked at her closer than from across the room in over two weeks. I am just being clear that I had no contact with her.

(quote Josh..."If you are selling and repersenting the animal it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY")
And I have taken that responsibility! I have done everything I know to work with this. I have told you nothing but the honest truth since you first told me you had problems with her. I have answered every question. Done everything I know to do. I have not received one direct contact from you other than behind my back posts about me on forums. Which I might add I would have never known was here except someone pointed them out to me. What more would you like me to do?
My husband and I decided for the best interest of this snake to find a home for her because my husband (to which the snake belonged) was not going to have time to spend with her due to his new job and other reasons. I had no real interest in the snake..he talked me into taking her in the first place. So he told me to look for her a good home. Since I am the one that works with rescue groups and rescue in general online, I am the one that posted it and dealt with it. You knew it was his snake, the reason we were finding her a new home...etc I stated all of this to you in email before we ever agreed to trade. Correct?

(quote HallsHerps...."it should have been your responsibility to ensure what you portrayed was what the buyer/ trader got")
I do see this now. I never thought about the chance of her popping up with mites as none of our snakes have ever had a problem. I have been checking them all now since this and still none of my others have them.
So I guess lesson learned...expect the unexpected!

I also just wanted to say thank you for a calm, direct post on this matter. It seems there are a few sane people around.

(quote HallsHerps..."hope that in the future  some of this will be of use to you")
You can say that for sure!

(quote Ritchie..."Okay....you did not have time for one (1) snake....So you decided to trade her in for three (3) more?")
My husband got a new job...he did not have time for her anymore due to a new schedule. I was not really interested in keeping her myself. As I have stated elsewhere I am more into pythons and col. I have my burm and did not really want two large snakes. I have plenty of time for my snakes..I am home all day with them (when I am not with my dad) I just don't really like boas and felt that she would do better with someone that really needed/wanted her. No excuses..no lies...just ...fact...??

(quote Ritchie..."You traded with Josh.  You did not adopt her out to him.
Traded -- got snakes in exchange....therefore Josh can do with her as he pleases.")
And I have never stated otherwise. I did email him when I saw he had posted her again. I knew how excited he had been to get her. As you can read yourself in the emails..I was puzzled/a bit shocked to see her posted so soon. That is why I emailed him asking about it. I was hoping that it was not going to turn out that he had just gotten her from me to try to make money from her or something. I don't feel that is the case now but as I know you must be able to imagine I was a bit upset when I first saw the post.

Ok I think that covers everything...sorry everyone for the long post..I just wanted to get to everyones questions and statements...

good point richie!
how much time does one snake take out of the day..or week even..geesh..hardly like a dog or cat that needs daily handling etc. i wonder what happened to the corns that she was going to be getting( the so called reason i could not get a price or much info was she had a trade she accepted for some corns i was told..) hardly a rubber boa etc that josh traded her for. also that pic of the wifes finger..my god..some tame snake. i have more than 23 boas here and never ever did i have a bite like that from any of them including the ones that got shipped in..only an occasional hiss after opening the bag.
me thinks we have a story teller on our hands..and a bad one at that. i hate to sound like a meanie here but like i said in my last post that person was just too strange about the whole thing and i feel for the buyer and his current dilemma ..and his wife..damm..who needs that kind of crap in their life.

one more thing..you are sitting there all day..and you dont take time to notice what your husbands snake is doing?
give me a break..dont have kids..because if your kids have pets you will be the one that takes care of them most of the time...
i find that excuse worse than pathetic..
you sit on your ass all day and there is sitting an animal that you dont bother to check on once in a while.
mites to that degree dont happen overnight.
they were there for a while..and your sitting and sitting and never filling a water bowl..one way to see them..or noticing the snake soaking endlessly..which im sure it was doing.
etc etc.
i have never once posted these kind of comments about anyone or anything but after reading this particular post and dealing with you myself and worst yet thinking of the whole situation after hearing the lamest excuses from a person that calls themself a rescue..
well all i can say is...
wake up girl..

QUOTES:
1. "I had considered breeding her myself ....."
2. "I got her from a friend locally and we did not get into specifics about where he got her."
3. "I have not had one bit of trouble with her eating"
4. "I have no idea on her weight"
5. "I truthfully just have not had reason to weigh her"
6. "As far as being proven?? at her size she could be but not by me or my friend that I got her from."

Everything is I......Who does it belong to again?

Emails regarding the possible trade started on Feb 15
You said you traded her because your husband got a new job and did not have time for her.
On March 5 you wrote this
" We are going to be gone today...celebrating..husband got the new job he was hoping to get"

So I guess someone has ESP and knew three weeks ahead of time that he will get the job.......If he knew three weeks ahead of time....why didn't you celebrate as early as the 15th of february.  How come nothing was mentioned about the job until 22 days later?

Quote:"with her when I had not even looked at her closer than from across the room in over two weeks"
March 3
"I am going to try the boa again today..see if she is interested..won't push her though since she will be traveling "
Boa was shipped March 5  That is two days before she was shipped NOT two weeks
Also a delivery of the boa was attempted by Mandy sometime between feb 26 - feb 28 (according to the e-mails).
So your seeing her only across the room for two weeks is another lie.

Quote: "You knew it was his snake, the reason we were finding her a new home...etc I stated all of this to you in email before we ever agreed to trade. Correct?"
nope.........as I said before....your husbands job did not get mentioned until the snakes were shipped  MARCH 5.

can't wait to see the answers for this one.

If I was Many's husband I'd leave her A$$. He can't keep his snake but she can have what ever she wants. He's the only one making money and you sit at home and can't throw  some food in the cage. I believe your stories are a bunch of BS. If you trade a snake you have no say what is done with it. He can sell it when ever he wants or hell make a pair of boots if he want because it's his snake. If you were that worried about the snake then why couldn't you find the time to care fo it. I know my wife hates my snakes and if she was to get rid of one she would care less because she hates them. Get your poop in a group and take notes so you can keep this pile of S#!t from getting to big.

Frank, LOL!!!

Ritchie... Great job yet again! Can I have you as my record keeper? <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

ok Rachel, you can have him as your record keeper, but I get him for my bodyguard!!!  This ok with you, Ritchie?
