Bad Guy Mark/BoaMaster Cages

When you say "edges and corners are damaged" what you are talking about? These cages are Melamine "presswood" for all intents and purposes so they may be some corners that are pulling up a little as that's hard not to happen with that wood.
 
The top from the first shipment is pictured with the burn in on it. Picture #3 in the first post. It could work, but do I really want to use that? The burn is on the visible side, not the inside where only the dragon could see. I mean if I really needed to put the cage together now, it would do. Thankfully I was just buying this cage to replace a 50 Breeder aquarium tank my bearded's in now, and not because he's outgrowing a tank.

I'm very familiar with presswood. Melamine, mdf, particleboard, etc. If it was just a few corners popping up, it wouldn't be of my concern. This is from clear mishandling of the pieces of wood, and NOT by UPS.

Another corner. There's more if someone wants to see. I didn't inspect the pieces too much after seeing there was no screen top.

Ok, well to me this is not really that uncommon for Melamine I don't mean to beat you up or anything and if it's an issue to you then i understand that but Melamine/presswood etc does this all the time. It's certainly not just with Marks stuff i can assure you. I also don't think that any of those issues would cause the cage not to work perfectly....just saying...
 
I have ten of the 4' enclosures in that style and none of them are chipped that bad, even after my severe mishandling. They are going to swell if subjected to moisture. Look at the edges and compare it to the raw breaks and you can see what has been treated to prevent this. That's not making this right. It's only going to degrade quicker if you settle for that crap.
 
You can't beat me up/offend me hahah. I view everyone's input equally, regardless who's side they're on, or how wrong they're proving me. I hope I in turn do not offend you, or others, in any way. I am a little irritated with this situation, on top of everything else going on in my life right now. I am trying to keep a level head, since you make more friends with honey.

You're 100% correct though. It's not uncommon, after being in use, for the edges of the wood to end up that way. But I'm sorry, I didn't order a cage that has already been "used" and show signs of wear.

You're also correct that all of this won't prevent the cage from working perfectly. But, if I wanted something that's somewhat of an eyesore to house my bearded in, I would've never ordered this cage and left him in the 50 gallon breeder tank. I ordered this cage because of the reviews I've read over time, and how awesome the final products always seemed to look. I was sick of seeing the glass tank on top of my tegu cage. I am not the greatest when it comes to building things, which is exactly why I didn't build this cage myself. I was afraid of cutting the wood with crooked edges, banged up corners, and it not lasting very long. But at this point, I may have been better off doing it myself :rolleyes:

It's starting to look like you're not going to get anything better. I certainly understand that when you pay a professional for an enclosure you don't expect it to be damaged when you get it. I'm not sure why some people think it's okay to receive a damaged product.

Thank you very much. Fortunately, a bearded dragon is going in this cage, so it won't be exposed to too much humidity. But I have heard that exposing the edges to high heat(Or humidity) will cause it to eventually degrade over time. I did plan on sealing all the edges where the wood meets, on the inside of the cage, to help prevent any degrading. But with chips of the melamine surface missing, that won't do too much.

On a second note though, this cage is going right on top of my tegu cage. That cage is at a constant 65-85% humidity, thanks to a wonderfully rigged humidifier. But with the vents and such on the cage, my room is always slightly more humid(and much warmer), than the rest of the house. So that could aid in the wear of those corners.

I appreciate the input. This is exactly how I feel, and am starting to think. Fortunately, I'm still within my 45 days to file a Paypal claim, and have until the end of the month to do so. I will be giving Mark another chance to fix this(though I'm not exactly sure how you even fix it this time).
 
If it was laying at a show he vends at disassembled and with all the damage openly showing, I would argue it was a used cage. I would not be willing to pay anymore than half of new pricing since a new cage I would expect to be in mint and undamaged condition. So unless he expects to send you an actual new and mint cage, I would personally expect half of my money back.
 
Totally unacceptable!! There is no way a brand new cage should look like that. I have built racks from melamine and have never had one look like that, even using a somewhat dull saw blade. That is from mishandling! Sorry, but that is not to be expected. By the way I used to build custom cabinets and counter tops and used my fair share of particle board as core material for countertops. After time that particle board will swell!! I would in no way accept that cage in the condition it is in.

Thank you both. I do not, nor never have, planned to accept this. As I said to Mark, if it was just a burn mark/chipped edge or two, I'd probably be keeping my mouth closed. But messing up the order twice on top of all the marks/edges, as well as taking over a month(because today makes 1 month from order date), keeps me from being happy.

Too tired from work today to deal with it right now, but that does leave me with the chipped and damaged boards still. When I get the replacement top, I'll sit down and see if I can build a full cage with no chipped boards. But I do believe no matter what pieces I use, they'll still have exposed wood in some way or another.

How would you guys go about this from here? I still have 2 weeks to open a Paypal claim IF it gets that far. I really hope not, but right now it seems like the chipped corners/exposed wood is not a concern of his what so ever.
 
If it was not made right to your likings within a week, I would personally file a complaint for a full refund. You did not order a used or damaged cage. If he wants it back, have him send a prepaid postage equipped package and send it back. I would state on my paypal complaint that product arrived damaged and seller is unwilling or incapable of providing a product in the condition as described in his advertisement. Situations like this are why i use a credit card through Paypal. If Paypal chooses to side with the seller, I guarantee my credit card will not. Once a credit card company informs Paypal they will not be getting paid, Paypal tends to side with a buyer quickly.

Boa master ran me all over the place on my purchase. He kept jacking up the price with constantly changing excuses, and finally snuck 150.00 more on to the COD bill which I refused to pay until he refunded me 150.00. The ten tub rack came in all busted up. He told me so many different so as to when he would ship and then when the 500 lb piece of stinky, busted up,unusable garbage arrived he refused to tell me how much of my 1200.00 he would refund me even though I emediately sent him photos and a copy of the ups document showing the driver confirming the damage.He only stated that I had to send the 500 lb cage back at my expense. After all the other lies he told before it arrived I definitely wasnt going to trust to lose even more money.I never got a dime out of that flake. I have photos and documentation for every thing. He's a piece of work. My ups freight bill number is 922 873 884 pick up date was 8 20 12 His packing job was amateurish and was the cause of the damage.I see he has a couple of his friends commenting to protect him. In the forty years of dealing in reptiles I have seen his kind many times before.hes dishonest to the core. John Farr
 
I agree fully, and that was my gut instinct. Paypal should agree with me. I've been on both ends of Paypal complaints, and know how they end. Had a kid in Canada file a complaint for a full refund on a $1500 paintball marker. Said he never received it. Even with us providing the tracking number and his signature on arrival, they sided with him. Paypal will always cover the person sending the money it appears. Because without the consumer, they don't do business.

Too bad my bank(Bank of America) doesn't fight Paypal for some odd reason. With the Bobby Hill/Varnyard Herps mishap, they wouldn't do anything for me. Paypal wouldn't open claims because it was past 45 days. My bank was extremely willing to help with the situation, until they got to the transaction and seen it was through Paypal. Right then I was told they can't do anything pretty much. But I know when the 45 days runs out this time, and will not make the same mistake as last time.

I'm going to email him in a bit when I figure out what pieces need to be replaced, and go from there. Like I said before, I really don't want to go with fighting him through Paypal. Though this is absolutely crazy for a $212 cage. What looks like is going to take 5 weeks(once again, assuming its going to be fixed this shipment) to get a product is a little nuts. I almost wonder what Paypal thinks about taking that long lol.
 
John, I'm sorry to hear that. Seems like some reptile vendors are taking after their products a little too much. But you'll find snakes in every business/hobby lol. I would make another thread marking him a Bad Guy with all that documention/photos. If he's honestly this bad of a retailer, the word needs to be brought out. I'm just hoping I end up with a cage that can be worth setting up :rolleyes:

That is not what I want. I purchased a cage, your site guarantees a cage AS ORDERED and in PERFECT CONDITION.

For one, I no longer even have the first cage. That went with the trash, considering you never mentioned wanting it back, and it was sitting on the floor of my kitchen for over a week.

And UPS did NOT damage the second cage. The box was in perfect condition, and there was more than enough cardboard around the edges of the wood to protect them from bumps. Not to mention most the marks/damaged edges are along the middle, and on the pieces that were in the middle of the box.

You NEVER told me to send anything back. I still have all our emails, and our one phone conversation was less than 30 seconds, and all you said was you would send a correct one out a week later.

I want a cage that is AS YOUR SITE SAYS, in perfect condition and as I ordered.
