• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Mike Greathouse [you decide]

Hmm, I've noted some security flaws in the way that PayPal does their business. Based on the above, do you believe that it is OK if I scam some people to show PayPal how easy it is to do? Using a fake ID, of course......

Rich, I'll preface by saying that I have utmost respect for you, this site and what you've done for herpetology in general, but security flaws and site rules are two different things. You can't equate the two IMO. I'm not trying to defend Mike I'm just not ready to write him off. My pendulum swings slower than other's I guess.

Oh yes I can. The security flaws at PayPal are based on their rules. But I don't want to post openly here what they are. If interested, please PM me and I'll tell you privately what I mean.

Do you really believe Mike will come here to address Wes, "face to face"?

I don't.

Nope. Don't expect that for a minute. Wouldn't mind being surprised though. But if ever Wes deserved the opportunity to be Wes, in all his rooster plumage, it would be to address the issues here in full sunlight for all to see, and respond to. This is one opportunity to crow that he paid for. Nothing will be stopping participation by all except the normal BOI rules. Lets start with full names, shall we ?

I am no Wes fan, but in this matter, I suspect that his sense of fair play and mine overlap.

As Wes is brought up as this ghost was against him. I will say. Wes is a person that always says whats on his mind. And even though he is very blunt he is an honest person.

If Wes knew when to turn it down a bit he would be a very value poster to this site.

I still am lost over all this though. Just do not know what to think.

Don't you usually allow someone named in BOI thread to post in their defense? Even when there was a paid membership in place to post on the BOI, anyone named in a thread was granted access to post for free.
I think Wes deserves the chance to address this.

I agree man. But I am not sure Wes even wants to have anything to do with it anymore. That last post seemed like he was done. Not sure what went on behind the scenes either.

This is just messed up all around.

I think Wes would be a fool to come back to Fauna at this point. Particularly under any kind of limited/temporary basis nor without an apology from Rich.

I really think we should forget about stipulations. Time served, ban lifted.

It's easier than that.
Send someone a PM that includes a 1x1 transparent gif hosted on a server for which you have the logs to. Then look at your logs to see what IP address requested the image.

That is why many modern e-mail clients (IE Thunderbird) will by default not load images in e-mail that are hosted on a remote server.
Not on this site. tags don't parse in PM's here. Someone would need to click on a link for you to do that.
We could take a vote.
Go start a poll. My guess is that Rich will ignore it since this is not a democracy.
Except, My IP changes all the time, according to the Firefox display I have on the status bar. Check for yourself. It's not even close to whats listed above, but I haven't changed service in quite a while.
I'm guessing that Firefox is reading the IP of the site that you are browsing, not your own IP. If it says 72.20.22.94 while you are here, then in fact, that is what it is doing, as that is Fauna's current IP.. As for your IP, it will likely change periodically depending on your ISP and the method by which you connect, unless you have paid for a static IP. Even with cable or fiberoptic, it will often change when you reboot your router for any reason. Some are even changed periodically by the ISP to prevent subscribers from hosting a web server.

Apology? From me? That has GOT to be the funniest thing I have read in a LONG, LONG time.....

I was all prepared to consider this until I read that.

Jim,

Just an FYI.... Firefox has an add-on that does just what Rick says.

Firefox has an add-on for just about everything.
I'm still waiting for the add-on that irons my shirts, but it probably is in development.

I didn't know that (not sure why anyone would want it when it's so easy to determine with one click). The rest of what I said is still correct either way.

I told you it was a bad idea.

I had no idea my opinion had so much sway with Rich. Maybe I should chime in more often. :D

Seriously though, why my opinion would have any bearing on what goes on between Rich and Wes is beyond me. Sounds more like someone just taking advantage of a situation and trying to pass the buck to me.

I'm lazy. Why click when I can just glance. ;)

LMAO! This is not the way to get him back on fauna.

Fair enough Chuck. I am now on a self imposed 48 hour gag order.

Thank goodness there is lots of basketball on.
