Someone please correct if I am wrong but does this thread qualify for the BOI since it does not have anything to do with an actual business transaction?
As I stated earlier, my concerns since it was determined that the evidence STRONGLY pointed to Mike Greathouse being behind the trolling personalities on this site, put me in a position of having to isolate the hosting domains that Mike was the admin of, from my working sites related to my own business concerns. The animosity evident was worrisome enough that I felt it prudent to protect my sites from a person who POTENTIALLY could cause a lot of damage with the access they had to the server itself via CGI scripting. This was a BUSINESS related circumstance, and did cost me substantially more on a monthly basis to host those domains on a separate server rather than sharing the expense on my utility server, as I was originally doing. Quite simply, Mike's alleged actions combined with the potential for REAL harm cost me money in order to take preventative measures.
Could I have simply terminated his hosting? Well his I could, easily, but there were several others whom he was maintaining that I would have had to give the boot as well. I just didn't feel comfortable doing it that way. So biting the bullet on another server seemed the best way to handle it, even though it was the more expensive route to take.
I also have recommended BUSINESS related contacts to Mike for website development, and although I never made any money off of those referrals, there is still the BUSINESS issue of my giving my recommendation concerning him. So, in effect, my referral could reflect on my own sound judgment if those persons in any way have cause to regret taking my advice.
Is there any evidence of Mike causing actual problems in the manner of affecting this site? No, nothing concrete, only circumstantial and possibly coincidental. But a potential, nonetheless, that could not be ignored. In determining risk, you have to consider three things: (1) motive, (2) capability, and (3) accessibility. The posts made under the guise of the trolls proved #1. I felt pretty confident that based on Mike's work with websites, that he satisfied #2. And his having access to my server through CGI scripting on his own domain and those he managed for others, satisfied #3. I really had no other choice but to recognize the risk and do my best to deal with it.
Further, Mike had been requested to cease and desist with this manner of trolling after being confronted with the suspicions founded on facts detailed in this thread. He was made aware of this evidence pointing to him via Jay and myself, which PLAINLY indicated that we knew what he was doing. When he obviously refused, stronger measures were certainly needed, which is where this thread comes in.
I specifically avoided using the [BAD BUY] label on this thread simply because I really did not think it appropriate, under the circumstances. I don't really think Mike is a bad guy at all. But he has some issues that are apparently clouding his judgment in his relationship with this site and the members within it. His manner of choice for expressing them here simply have to stop.
THAT is what this thread is hoped to accomplish. To apply the peer pressure power of the BOI to convince him that if he is in fact engaging in trolling this site via false registration, to STOP before more damage is inflicted on both sides of the aisle.
