In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Mike Shoemaker - Rebel Dragons BAD GUY

This is a copy of an e-mail I am sending to Mike, I am done with caring for animals and his lack of communication so we can properly deal with them. I have had them in my care for 18 weeks as of this coming Sunday. I am posting it here because I know he likes to lurk around this thread. I am also sending this e-mail to both of his e-mail addresses. I was informed by someone close to him that he is sure Mike is still checking his e-mails. Mike is fully aware that the library has free internet use, we have talked about that on numerous occasions.

Mike Shoemaker,

February 1, 2008

I have met with Cory and came to agreements over the boas. He has taken claim over which animals he desired, the rest are to go to good homes, for payment we are under a breeding loan with the het albino to cover the cost for feeding and housing them. As for the bearded dragons and tarantulas, he has left them to me to decide what to do with them between you and I. So here is the deal. Since I received all the animals under false pretense, actually flat out lies, I am sending you a bill for their housing, care, and feeding beginning with the day they physically arrived in my home.

Your bill is laid out as follows, one(1) dollar a day per bearded dragon and five (5) dollars a week for all the tarantulas combined. The bill is current as of today’s date February 1, 2008 and will continue per day/week. You have 30 days to pay and retrieve these animals, or they will be considered abandoned by you. Unless agreements to which I deem acceptable are made between us.

Name: Date Arrived: Time Spent Here:
Red Boy September 23, 2007 131 Days
Victoria September 23, 2007 131 Days
Diana September 23, 2007 131 Days
Meanie September 23, 2007 131 Days

Total: 524 days

Cost: $524

Tarantulas September 23, 2007 18 Weeks

Cost: $90

Grand Total: $614

You will pay for the cost of shipping and materials. The two tarantulas that died will be subtracted from the grand total. I am advising that Diana is not to be shipped due to health reasons, you gave her to me looking like an anorexic. No she did not drop seven clutches as you claim, that was a bad excuse for not feeding her. Arrangements will be taken care of by you, I will not be held responsible for her if she is shipped. You have 30 days. That is a total of five months they have been in my care. All communications will be done via e-mail for purposes of documentation. This is also going to be posted on the BOI. Link is provided below:

Sincerely,

Michael Shelton

I will provide the link as soon as this is posted.

No offense taken, I figure if I can make one person laugh a day, then I can sleep well at night.

Please don't get me wrong....I don't think you are a joke.

You cant hold the animals hostage for money and you cant dispense with any of the animals as you see fit, although it seems you've already done so with some animals with Cory.

Once you took those animals in you became 100% responsible to keep ALL those animals in your care. You do have a right to seek compensation for the housing and care, but only after the animals are returned to him.

You should properly notify him via certified mail that you want the animals picked up. Email is not the way to do it.

Michael, you've been more than patient with him. It's obvious he really doesn't care about any of these animals....bless you for taking care of them for this long. I'm sure you'll find great homes for them with someone who will actually appreciate them.

Bill, how long would you expect him to keep and care for these animals with no response or communication whatsoever from Mike?

I know laws vary from place to place, but I know my vet told me that the owner has so many days to claim an animal left in their care, or contact them to make other arrangements, and after that time period without owner contact, they are free to either euthanize or adopt out the animals. It's not up to the vet (or other person left holding the animals) to contact the owner.

Well thats just it....the law varies from place to place. I'm not sure if Shelton knows what his responsibility is to Mike and the animals....what he committed himself to and is responsible for by law in his state.

One thing is for certain, if Mike wanted ALL his animals back right now then all he'd have to do is show up at Mikes door to collect them. He wouldn't have to pay a dime of what Shelton is demanding. If Shelton didn't have all of the animals, everything including those he's admitted to giving to Cory, he could be in some small trouble. You cant give away what doesn't rightfully belong to you and that with what you agreed to be responsible for when you took them into your possesion. The law suck but thats the law. The law says that you must take good care of another's persons property when you accept it into your possesion. Asking for compensation under a documented existing agreement is understandable but I wouldn't even consider demanding payment or else holding the animals hostage unless I received it. It may not say that specifically in the email Shelton sent but its how it may be interpreted.

I'm just thinking it would be wise to send out a certified letter or two to his last know addresses and keep the receipts for them. That is the only form of communication that I'd be doing with Mike to request he pick up the animals within a specific time frame or risk losing them. Email and phone does not cut it.

Ah, but after being left for so long without any form of contact from the owner, they could very well be considered as "abandoned". Depending....LOL.

I don't know, I understand what you are saying....as long as Michael knows he has his butt covered.

There are other laws Micheal can use to protect himself, and make his decision perfectly legal. I'll send you (Mr. Shelton) a PM stating how, so as not to tip off the lying, thieving one.

Personally, if he dropped them on Micheal under false pretenses, I see no obligation on Micheal's part to continue caring for them. Why should Mike Shoemaker be released of his own obligation to the animals that are in fact HIS? Why should Mr. Shelton be obligated to fork out of his pocket to care for them, with no financial obligation to the thieving SOB that abandoned them in the first place?

Here's the thing with the boas, they are Cory's animals. Cory wanted and cared for them, he is partial owner, according to Arizona he legally owns half the animals. Mike did not care for the boas. My best bet was to work with Cory, he was also the one who purchased most of them and worked deals to get them. As far as the dragons and tarantulas go, that is more than 50% of property. As stated in my e-mail "Unless agreements to which I deem acceptable are made between us." If he wants to arrange a pick, then he can certainly do so.

If he wants to arrange a pick up, then he can certainly do so.

We called Arizona state Humane Society, they said
They are legally yours after one month, 30 days. So they were yours three months ago.
We had them clarify that this includes reptiles and they confirmed. This is who we called:

Humane Society of Southern Arizona-Shelter
3450 N Kelvin Blvd
Tucson, AZ 85716
(520) 327-6088

That's the way I understood the laws here Michael....they are considered to have been "abandoned" or however they want to term it.

Good to know.....and you rear is covered. ;)

For those who are curious, we also called our local humane society and the law is the same in California, after one month they are considered abandoned. Though they said we should call the Herp Society to find out if the laws are any different for exotic animals. Being that I know the President of the Herp Society I did just that and I am waiting for her to return my call.

Hey Mike,

IF that little slimeball decides he wants to come over and pick up ANYTHING would you do me a favor and let me know when he plans to be there? Then be sure to tell him that I'll be over to say "hello" and I'll bet you dollars to donuts that we never see him.

I'm dead serious too. I'll be there.
