In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

mitch behm aka behmfamily aka mitchell s. behm illegally selling snakes

I agree with you wes. mitch has annoyed me as well with his activity on this forum. he is the lowball king, even on animals already priced very low. and then, he sells imperfect animals at a relatively high price. i dont get this guy.
joe

In defense of Mitch, those Emerald Tree Boas he was selling were advertised as "pet quality" animals that were not 100%. IMO they were advertised them for exactly what they were and he delivered on that to the best of my knowledge with no "shadiness" attached. No idea about the Rubber Boas though, this is a seperate issue.

Joe and Wes,

His attitude may suck, I don't know, that's a matter of opinion anyway.

But do either of you have anything to back up your comments about him lowballing people and selling second rate animals? Pictures? Someone willing to step up and say "yeah, this guy did/tried to lowball me on a snake"?

I'm not trying to be confrontational, or defend the guy, but let's be fair, show us what you've got to back up these statements.

It doesn't make any difference if he "lowballs" prices~ thats not the point of the discussion. If it makes you feel better~ my issue with Mitch was over prices of something I had for sale~ it got a little nasty~ the ads have since been deleted.

The point of the thread is that Mitch attempted to sell something illegally. There is a very good chance his illegal activity is the result of a stupid mistake rather than him being a scofflaw. If he had not displayed the nasty, contemptuous attitude to others here previously he probably would have been given the benefit of the doubt that his error was in fact a mistake and not an attempted crime. But as he repeated told us~ he did not come here to make friends~ so apparently have no friends who were willing to privately point out his error. As is~ he's taking a little heat here. Despite my active dislike for the man~ I do legitimately hope the little heat he is taking here for a stupid mistake will be all the reprimand he takes in the matter.

Cheryl, I agree that Mitch did break the law. I think there's a very good chance it was a result of stupidity as well.

But Wes made the claims about lowballing and inferior animals alongside of the one about the illegal sale in his original post. Then Joe piled on. It's been made perfectly clear that the attempted sale was illegal, I'd just like to see something to back up the rest of the claims, that's all.

Dan, every city has to have every law and in the case of animals, ordinance in print available at the public library and at the court house and/or police station for review. Officials in every city need to reference those materials themselves as there are so many stupid little laws and ordinances that they could never know them all by number to charge people with them. There will be a section in the table of context for animal ordinances, most will apply to dogs and farm animals. You will eventually find a very obscure sub section for "exotic" species. Keep in mind though it is all at the local level. Not at the state level. There are a few states with laws on reptiles like New York and Florida, but the vast majority leave it to the cities to regulate for themselves.

Thanks Evan, I will look into it, although the DEP is in the town I live in and they have no clue the difference between a sunbeam snake and an Austrailan water python, and also wont give out the list, without asking way to many questions, and even then not always. I will try to dig something up with some cop friends I have around here. Regardless of what the laws are my retics and burms stay, they would have to take them from my cold dead hands, but I dont want to aquire more if its going to be an issue. Thanks again!!!!!!! Dan M. Oh and sorry again for the off topic post.

Erin, I had an Indigo for sale. He made some stupid comments about my husbandry, pricing, and whether or not it ever even sold. He's done the same to others.

I deleted my ad when my snake sold so I have no proof. However, I think that I am fairly believable.

He also advertised that he wanted Eastern Indigos and that it didn't matter what state they were in as he would fly there and purchase them in person. This is also illegal as they require permits to transport for sale across state lines.

He's made an unpleasant ass of himself a number of times here.

This is how I treat unpleasant asses.

As he himself said, loooooooooooong after I did, ask no quater and give none.

WOW. Thanks Steve!

Wes, I remembered that want ad about the Indigos after I posted, and I did think it was pretty ridiculous. And I didn't know what had happened with your ad for the female. I remember see it, but then the next time I looked, it was gone.

But he sure does prove your point in those other two adds! Wow! I hadn't seen those, so I didn't know what you were talking about.

"unpleasant ass"? I'd have to agree!

And it wasn't that I didn't believe you, I'd ask anyone making those kind of statements for proof, fair is fair.

Mitch Behm/Good Guy

Far be it for me to get in between anyone on this forums hard-on for Mitch Behm. As for me, I have purchased several animals from Mitch and have been very satisfied with the purchase price and the quality of the animals. As for those of you who are whining about Mitch selling "lowball" animals........perhaps you should go back to school and study capitalism. Perhaps, your prices are to high. Sometimes I am blown away by the asking prices by some of the schmucks on kingsnake and fauna. You add up their ridiculously high prices with shipping, and you wonder if they sell anything at all. I tell you what, I am a breeder who is just starting out. My intention is to move the animals that I produce. This may mean selling (high quality) at a lower price then my competitors.....I suggest you get over it now. The last thing I want to hear is some cry baby whining about my low cost animals. It is none of anyone's #%&! business. If Mitch keeps selling - I will continue buying. I do not have a beef with Mitch.

Being an "unpleasant @ss" doesn't make him a bad guy, just someone tough to deal with. Neither does buying animals wholesale and selling them at a markup. If you don't like the price, nobody is putting a gun to your head to buy. I think the topic should stay on point regarding the Rubber Boas if a point is trying to be made.

I beleive a point is trying to be made, but it has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.

This thread is due ENTIRELY to mitchy's attitude, the way he treated people I consider friends, like Cheryl, and, in no small part, the fact that he annoyed me personally.

This is exactly it. Mitch made a mistake, or possible mistake, and gave Wes the excuse to make a bad guy thread. Personally many of Mitch's posts have annoyed me, but I find it very low to use the BOI as a personal pissing match of attitudes when there are ACTUAL problems that could be receiving the attention instead.

If this thread is going to continue to go on it should probably focus on the illegal transaction that actually took place, the selling of these snakes to Mitch.

So you think that committing a crime in purchasing and another in attempting to sell these animals is not worthy of a BOI thread? Sorry, but I disagree. It is perfectly appropriate in my opinion. What if someone equally ignorant as mitch (and I am guessing he was ignorant of the law, not intentionally breaking it although the issue regarding the Eastern Indigos has me wondering) bought them and California authorities arrested and prosecuted that person? Farfetched? Maybe, maybe not. Now the issue is here front and center and anyone researching mitch knows to be careful as to what species he is offering for sale or to buy.

As for whether Wes could have handled this privately, well yes he could have and might well have if not for mitch's arrogance. For one thing, I doubt mitch would have believed Wes and for another why should Wes have done him any favors?

The simple fact is that this was already handled BEFORE this thread was started.

This has nothing to do with it. The ad had already been locked, AND Mitch had already acknowledged to Wes that he did not realize it was illegal before Wes ever started this thread. Everyone here knows that him advertising an animal illegally had nothing to do with this thread being started, or with most of the comments in this thread. This would have been an appropriate thread if the transaction took place, or if the thread was geared towards the original transaction.

casey, you seem to have your thinking cap on crooked.

How could mitchy have emailed me before I started this thread if the starting of this thread was the first that anyone knew of the illegality of him selling rubber boas in Ca?

You ASSumed and made an ASS of yourself.

mitchy emailed me AFTER the start of this thread for who knows what reason. Trying to head me off at the pass on HIS ASSumption that I was out to crucify him. I've already explained that crucifixtion was not my intent here.

He publicly made himself subject to the speculation of his .....intellect, morals, ethics, and intelligence. I had NOTHING to do with it other than bringing it out in the open. Just the same as I would for most people on my poop list.

If you don't like it, there are several options I'd recommend. First, use the ignore feature. Second, don't break the law on a public forum. Third, don't get on my poop list. Any one of those, or all three, will keep from happening to you what mitchy did to himself.

Doesn't seem that way to me.

Looks like you posted in his ad at 11:49 A.M. on the 8th. It was closed shortly after.

You started this thread at 4:59 P.M. on the same day. By my clock that is over 5 hours later, but hey maybe I'm thinking "crooked".

The post you made shows the time on the message from Mitch as 15:03, still two hours before you made this thread. While you could have not read the message before you started this thread, it doesn't really matter. You have demonstrated my point admirably. I disagree with you, so you try to attack me. Go for it, have fun. I will not participate in that kind of childish game. The simple fact is that the crime is still not actually being discussed.

Nice try, but "the simple fact" is that you have failed to take into account the time zone in which Wes is located. By my calculation it was 14:59 PDT when the thread was started. Mitch had ample time to PM or email Wes in the interim but responded immediately when the thread was commenced. Those are facts.

Awwww.....I think I have a fan.

How sweet.

Grow up, man, this ain't junior high.
