I thought I mentioned that Layla was the first snake to come into our family? A couple days later, I bought Dexter for my son. Layla was dead just a few days after that. Amazing Animalz acquired Layla from some pet expo. I bought Layla from AA. Then, Dexter came from Paul.
Fast forward to what I then posted about "Ribs." Several months later, Ribs was at AA in very rough shape. We took her in because we have an area to QT where AA does not. Patricia paid for Ribs to go to the vet, vet confirmed pregnancy but said all babies were dead. Mindy continued caring for Ribs. Ribs gave birth to 24 live babies.
Ribs was never near ANY of the other snakes in Mindy's personal collection and the only snake ever near Layla was Dexter.
Mindy is not posting anymore. Neither am I. I've stated how we got the snakes and where they are now. Mindy's having Dexter tested to rule out IBD since he was the only one ever with Layla.
Please refer to my other posts, if necessary. Just like Mindy, I'm not posting anymore. I probably shouldn't have gotten involved in the first place, but I tried to set things straight, only to see some writing negatively about me now. I have nothing to do with the snakes other than being the one who bought Layla. I also can not control my 18 year old daughter. Believe me, I try.

You need a PCR for IBD, and a PCR for Ferlavirus and Paramyxovirus. As I posted pages ago, both are available through ZooPath or Avian & Exotics Lab. You can also contacr the lab at the Univ. of Florida and see if a PCR is available for BPNV.

I would be testing Dexter, any boa you own, and at least 2 snakes from the shop to ensure no cross-transmission.

Back to my personal opinions-

I did take a few minutes to read some of this posted on Facebook. Jen and Steve are the only two names that I recognize from the conversations there.

How is it that there and here most seemed to have arrived at close to the same conclusions? Nobody there can read and nobody here?

I think you should have taken some of that earlier good advice from your mother in regards to your arrogance.

Next, I certainly don't agree that people should be sending you messages of the type you posted. That's their liability. People here addressing you without such comments aren't responsible for how anyone, anywhere responds to you. You don't even know if that person is active here. Could be someone you pissed off on Facebook. Seems to be a few over there.

As I read your comments they were pretty much the same thing here.

When people are trying to understand what happen, the timeline, seeking clarification there and here your responses have been the same.

"You people and your lack of reading capabilities. " And the like.

When people read conflicting statements it's normal to seek clarification.

I thought my response to you last night was pretty mellow. I also stated I didn't think you were trying to deceive anyone that you simply were uneducated about a few points in some of the screen captures.

People are entitled to their own opinion. The readers can go to that thread and decide for themselves. I would add just because you received what you were promised doesn't mean those posting in that thread should have their claims rejected. You can have hundreds of good transactions and then not fulfill one obligation. That doesn't give you a right to take from anyone else. Making light of what was done to others just because your transaction was good, is well, selfish.

This board was created to give those resources. There was no other at that time and nothing out there comes close to the recognition here. Regardless if you like Fauna or not, When someone wants to get the word out, they come here. Even those that bash this site.

It wouldn't matter if I had a good transaction with someone if they have stolen from someone else afterwards. How would you feel if someone had many great transactions then you were the one that sent funds and received nothing? Were all here to protect each other from those circumstances and provide peer pressure to those that aren't good sellers.

That doesn't mean we all agree. Most of the time unless it is a clear cut case of theft, you will find many different opinions.

Anyway, there are more appropriate places to discuss those topics.

I'm not going to waste my time reasoning the same points again or asking for clarification of something you stated.

Furthermore, you claim that you didn't argue with anyone who gave you information on IBD, yet you argued with me. You immediately deleted my first comment on your thread without a response, then deleted my first thread, then deleted my second thread and banned/blocked me. You called the academic mBio links I posted regarding these viruses "Google links" and continued arguing in your group that "everyone knows a neurological disease can't affect the kidneys" (implying Dr. Elliott Jacobson's article was wrong, and that "blood/brain diseases aren't viral". Ever heard of Rabies? Herpes? HIV? All viruses. Even if you meant "airborne", MANY viruses (influenza, the common cold) are in fact airborne. Yet you refuse to acknowledge when you are severely wrong and when others are providing information that is correct.

Like Dennis mentioned, I made mistakes when I went through this type of situation. And I got crucified. One thing that set me apart is I did the testing and research, closed my collection, didn't continue breeding/selling, and ultimately euthanized what was left that didn't already die. That is what I have been constantly telling you buy you refuse to listen. You seem intent on proving you're right by continuing to sell and risk other people's collections...which, quite frankly, is both terrifying and infuriating.

I'm sorry to hear that. I thought your posts were honest and they made the situation clearer. I honestly didn't see where someone attacked you or written something negative about you. This thread has moved a lot since last night so I may have just missed it.

Also, as I have posted in several groups on FB, having necropsies and bloodwork are never a waste of money. Even if it's negative, or is too late to help anything, it still contributes to the overall knowledge of herpetological veterinary research. The necropsies and tests I had done, while hit a dead end at the time, ended up contributing to the identification of Ball Python Nidovirus. So it wasn't for no reason. God forbid your animals DO test positive for something, they can be used in research to further understand viruses like these and maybe, just maybe, develop a cure or a vaccine.

I do have a local small animal, equine, and exotic veterinary school within an hour from me - Tufts. I was considering taking two years of small animal then going to Tufts for exotic, but only 10% of Tufts exotic course is reptile. I want to be herp certified, a reptile specialist. Do you suggest me taking Florida's online courses through the whole thing, small animal and exotic? Do you have other recommendations? Yes I do plan on doing internships, of course.

This. If she chooses not to "shut up and listen" to anything else here, she should definitely consider Chris' advice. Since I noticed that she has a pretty cavalier attitude toward QT, including pictures of inter-class animal interaction, I think that alone is another possible vector that likely never entered her mind: If physical contact with a tainted enclosure - or nearly any inanimate object - can spread a given pathogen, surely physical contact with, let's say, a tainted cat or a bird could yield the same results? I'm not referring to asymptomatic carriers; I'm talking about the simple possibility of snakes' secretions collecting in fur or feathers. I wonder how many unseen cutesy little pics she actually took with snakes and other animals together, and how many of them may have directly involved sick snakes? It seems that a single sneeze could aerosolize and spread more than enough contaminated fluids to infect the next unfortunate boid that happened to come in contact with either animal. Perhaps someone with actual training in the veterinary medicine field could chime in on this possibility.

Mindy, what you really need to understand is that the now-justifiable doubt in your animals' possible health - and, by extension, your "partner's" - is really all that MANY will need to see before coming to the decision to avoid you like the proverbial plague. You may continue to capitalize on business from others who are as clueless and green as you are; but, with more than a few people who have and will read this thread, your name now has one of the worst kinds of mental associations to have in this business. You'd do well to stop the petulant child routine and put some serious effort into completely removing the aforementioned doubt from readers' minds. You seem intent on having a single snake tested, which I don't think will really cut it. Maybe I'm in the minority, though.

What is your end goal? CVT or DVM? To be either, you need to attend a physical school. To become a CVT, the AVMA has required hands on skills that are required for every single class, from venipuncture to surgical assisting to gloving to restraint to laboratory procedures (manual differentials, blood smears, urinalysis, etc). These skills need to be done as part of a curriculym at an AVMA-accredited college or university. To become a DVM, you need a 4-year undergraduate degree in Zoology or Biology, then apply to a veterinary school and complete 4 years of post-graduate instruction, residencies, etc.

Online classes are only acceptable for Gen-Eds that you want to transfer to a physical school, or to be a Veterinary Assistant (equivalent to a kennel worker or animal restrainer).

So it depends on what you're looking to become.

Also, most schools focus on small animal with a portion for equine, production animal, lab animal, and avian/exotics. As a DVM, you can choose a specialty residency in exotic. As a post-grad CVT, you can work in exotics/zoo medicine for 5+ years and then apply for your VTS specialty certification.

Now back to schooling, thank you for the information. I was hoping to start achool before 2015, but apparently that can't happen. Vet school is not exactly affordable, and as most of you know, college takes u all your time. I have horses and snakes at home to care for and a job that is an absolute must. Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions.

I would love to move and go to a really good scool for veterinary. I really want to move to Texas. Does anyone know of a superb vet/exotic/reptile school in Texas? I really want to be known as one of the best of the best when it comes to reptile veterinary. Yes, I am shooting for the moon. But what is wrong with being ambitious?

If you're looking to become a DVM, you will need a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology or Biology from any accredited university or college, then apply to one of the followimg AVMA-accredited veterinary colleges:

Personally, I'm partial to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. The University of Florida, Cornell, Purdue, and Texas A&M are also good.

Truly, I hope you mature very soon, can learn to accept advice & education from those with a vast more knowledge/experience than yourself, can gain self possession, etc.
