    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My baby is dying... please help me

First off I am very sorry for your loss. I know first hand how upsetting and frustrating it can be to lose a pet. I generally agree with Matthew here. Reptile medicine is fairly new in veternary practices(as compared with most other animals they treat), and often the meds used werent made for reptiles, so they are not always 100 percent effective. With not enough good vets specializing in herps and not enough good stuff out there to administer anything without testing is crazy, and a waste of your money(not that money comes to mind when trying to save a life). Most of these medications the average vet uses on a reptile was made for a dog or cat, or even in some cases horses, and with snakes haveing a totally different immune system, metabolic rate and just being completely different they can sometimes do more harm then good. Although I agree with you Matthew, you seem to be coming off as blaming her, and while that may not be your intention, thats how I perceived it so perhaps she did as well. She noticed a problem, asked for advice, and took the animal to the vet. There is not much more someone can do. Yes she should have gone to the vet sooner, but at her age my guess is she doesnt drive, and her father did not want to take it there as she mentioned. So I think her getting it there shows she has made a fair effort here. You may not have intended to sound this way Matthew, but like I said from a third party position it came off that way. If I am wrong I do apoligize, but I would hate for her to ignore your sound advice because of the fashion in which it was presented. Have a great week and weekend, Dan M.

I am very sorry your little gecko died. Chances are you will never really know whether it was parasites or a bacterial infection since no tests were performed. Unfortunately, many pet store geckos are infected when they are sold, and the stress of a new environment can cause a weakened immune system and the infection grows out of control. I DO NOT recommend giving any ailing creature medication for an un-diagnosed problem. If the appropriate meds are not given correctly in their proper dosage, they can cause serious organ failure and kill your gecko. If caught early enough, the majority of these problems can be treated successfully with the proper medication for the specific infection.

I always seem to come off as condescending and rude in a lot of my posts, but I certainly don't mean to. I wasn't blaming her, but I did point out that I would not use that particular vet again. She defended the vet saying that the gecko was too sick to undergo testing. I disagree with the idea that an animal can be too sick to undergo testing, but throwing a bunch of medication at the same animal hoping something will work is OK.

The Leo was most likely sick when it was purchased. She even said that it never had regular eating habits, so from the beginning there was a hint something was wrong. The gecko should have seen a vet a while ago, but that option was sadly not available.

just realised my post might look a bit sarcastic - it's not, so sad that the poor thing died even when you got the meds

It is amazing how much people rely on inflection and tone to imart meaning in their words. And even more amazing how difficult it is to impart your intended tone in written text.
