Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

hey im new to the breeding scene and i was wonder if this beautiful girl i rescued is good n ready to bring some babies into the world! and i love her to death since when i was told bout my family friend having her i went to see her and her cage was horrible and she was under weight and just unhealthy ive brought her to regain her color and be 100x healthier than she was when i found her. i know in breeding the female can be hurt and damaged some times little nips are fine but i want to make sure shell live another ten yrs after i breed her

and please realize it does not matter to me if shes ready to breed or not id rather her be healthy before i do any of this to her otherwise i can always wait for her to be ready.

she weighs 342g's and is 17in long and is a supposed 3yrs old. but tends to be lazy but has some energy at play time she takes off like crazy and is fast! and i love her to death since i found her in such a way.

so here is some pics of her. let me know what you guys think! and i know shes not a normal but cant figure out what morph so i decided to call her an ember (also her name).
and my 20inch male is right next to her

ok well i tired to have them in the same cage for only 30 mins and they were being extremely aggressive with eachother, her being the one starting it then he just latched onto her no big damage done but i think im just going to let them see eachother twice a day for an hour at a time so they are not to hostile with one another.

any input on what i should do

I don't know much on breeding dragons yet..but in other animals, a neutral cage normally helps, and making sure the cage is big enough for two dragons.

In some other animals (mammals, birds, etc) increasing/decreasing the amount of sun exposure/heat can help in getting the female ready/more responsive. Make sure her diet has calcium... Other than that they might have to date a while ;), and during that time hopefully one of them will begin courting the other.

Sorry, if this isn't much help..Like I said I have no experience or done any reading on breeding yet. Just care and genetics..

Good luck, and if it works out..post pictures of the babies/eggs!

One day together, two days apart. Put them female in the male's cage, and within 2-3 weeks you should be able to start feeling eggs.

When I first paired mine at the end of Feb, the female about ran the male off. After watching them very closely for awhile, I realized that not only was he going to hold his own, but would become the aggressor. Almost exactly four weeks later, she laid her first clutch of 28. Four weeks ago yesterday, that clutch started hatching, and I'm currently waiting on clutch #5 so be ready for LOTS of eggs/babies!!!!

yea they were very aggressive and im just gonna move both tanks next to each other and have them see each other out of the cage everyday but a little amounts of time while building up then eventually they'll be with each other for a week etc.

1 hr together then 2 then 4 then 8 etc etc thanks for the help guys! and good job on the babies! cant wait for these two to have some!

and hilary what you said makes sense! and i will post pics of babies and some might be for sale! but well see i may love them too much haha

ok well there both ready to breed and showing some signs there ready! i will breed them but i want to know whats the best incubator for low cost (as in im not gonna spend $400 on one at this time)

and wheres the best price i can get for vermiculite and perlite or what do you guys use for your eggs?!

thanks guys please respond soon!

Building your own incubator is pretty easy. My first was a mini-fridge. This year I had to replace my kitchen refrigerator so I converted my old one into my new incubator (dragons up top in the freezer, and lots of room in the fridge for my BP eggs to cook at a different temp).

I use vermiculite as my incubating medium, but be sure that you do NOT get the kind that has any added fertilizers. I got a giant bag from a nursery, for pretty cheap.

yea i saw they have some at lowes and home depot ill prob just go to the nursery down the street as well and how did you heat your fridge because i have an old one just sitting in my garage i can convert! (great idea btw) thanks matt!

The link that Dillon provided looks very similar to what I did, the only exception being that I never bothered with removing the cooling assembly (compressor and all that). Well wired heat tape, a good thermostat and a good thermometer (don't always trust what your therm says), and you're in business.

i could tell you right off what i used to build my incubator. quite frankly i found a full sized fridge on craigslist of 20 bucks that i turned into an incubator with an aquarium heater and a thermostat. well.. also with a bin to hold water to create humidity and the aquarium heater was placed in.

some people say to place the male in with the female since it is her territory and should make her feel more comfortable. i have tried this and has worked with much success. i have moved females in with males and gotten the same results. i think it has to do with the male. if a male is aggressive he doesn't care where he is as long as a female it there with him. if he is not aggressive for a breeder then he might need some time until he gets used to the female.

where i am with the incubator and where i live i don't actually have to turn on the water heater to keep constant temps.

i use vermiculite to keep the eggs in the incubator.

all in all with everyone giving you advice i am sure you will come out alright.

ok well i have had them in the same tank for about a week and i dont see signs of her digging or anything.

she shows signs of completely submitting to the male but he does his dance then stops.

or hell dance then latch on but never do the deed!

can anyone explain to me whats going on? for now im gonna separate them then introduce next week.
