Keeper of Iffy Creatures
My first beardie passed away 2 years ago and I missed her a lot. Finally got the beardie bug though again to get another one. My boyfriend was being a bit of a hold out. He didn't like lizards, said they creep him out. He loves snakes though, go figure. But he didn't like the idea of the claws, teeth, fast movements, etc. I convinced him to let me get one. Someone on a local forum was selling 2 adults (male and female), with a huge tank and all their supplies for $100. I couldn't pass it up. They've never bred, don't plan to try though either. The male has MBD. Its minor, but he has some motor skills problems with walking, he can walk though, he just usually chooses not to. Though he climbs quiet a bit in the tank. He is missing part of his tail and a couple of toes, long ago injuries. The previous owner said he was the 2nd owner. He was very nice, but they had some minor neglect issues. The man had LOTS of kids. One of them was autistic and the others are just loud and rambunctious. They were all telling me how the male is iffy and might try to bite. When one of them tried to pick him up, he puffed and she pulled away. I could deal with it though. I got them home, upgraded their tank quite a bit (all they had was one branch, no hides). I am getting new sand tomorrow. They eat great too. And turns out, the male isn't aggressive one bit. Quite the opposite. He is total chill. I just think all the noise and motion going on there stressed him. We have a quiet house. One daughter, who isn't hyper or obnoxious and is quite involved in the care of our multiple pets. Oh and about my boyfriend and his aversion to lizards....I come home from work one day and he's watching tv with one lizard on each leg. He LOVES them! Spoils them, gives them kisses! He's still not a fan of geckos, iguanas, etc, but he thinks beardies are rocking awesome!
Here they are
Like I said, when I got them, they had ONE branch, which the male always took over, so I made sure they had plenty of options now. My boyfriend made them a 2 bedroom condo too!
