In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My tokay is flipping out!

My female tokay, Persephone, has been acting strange the last 2 - 3 days. She has been having these episodes, almost like seizures, where she freaks out, starts barking/screaming, running all around the cage, trying to climb up the wall of the tank but falling backwards. These "episodes" last 5 - 10 seconds then she is fine, or calm. 45 seconds to a minute later she will do it again. This went off and on all day yesterday, but she didn't have any "episodes" last night or at all today. But she had one just a few minutes ago.

Another thing, is that her feet and legs tremble. IDK if it's because of that but she has been sliding down the side of the tank, then laying in awkward positions.

The 2nd and 3rd pictures she is on the bottom. ( The other is my male, Hades ). And she'll just lay like too, doesn't bother to right herself or anything.
I know there isn't any breeding action going on between the two. But I am stumped on what is wrong with her. If someone can give me some ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. I would like to be able to call my vet tomorrow, if need be. I just have this feeling that this isn't going to end well. Damn I hope my girl will be alright :bawling:

I don't know if this will help but beardies will "tremble" or twitch when they are developing calcium deficiency...does she get calcium supplement[sprinkled on her prey items]and have a UVB bulb? I'm sure a gecko enthusiast will have more ideas...

I agree with Angie, sounds like it could be signs of developing calcium deficiency. It could also be other things. Are you dusting her food with a calcium supplement? do you ever dust with a multivitamin?
I noticed you have a light over the enclosure. Do they have a dark place to hide? Bright light can stress geckos out.

I just wanted to thank you two for responding to my post. But infortunately, my girl died yesterday :'( I have been dusting her food with calcium and they do have a place to hide during the day while day lights are on. I am not really sure what was wrong with her but it was something serious to have taken her in 3 - 4 days.
I am so so sad about losing her, but I am also glad that she isn't suffering anymore. Again, thank you two for your help.

Really sorry to hear that Heather..it's always sad to lose one of our little friends...I'm really curious as to whether anyone knows what it could have possibly been..some type of strange seizures..I will keep an eye out for info that I can find.

Thank you two, very much. Sunday was a pretty bad day for me. I had to find a new home for one of my cats, then I found Persephone ( tokay ) dead and later that night my iggie died as well.
But I am doing what I need to do to bring closure. Thanks again for the warm thoughts. ♥

While it will run you a couple of bucks, I would very strongly suggest an autopsy on her. As you pointed out, it was something likely very serious to take her that fast. And I am concerned for your other animals, esp the male she had been housed with. How old was she?

I agree that a necropsy would be a good idea, however it is impossible to perform one if the body has been frozen rather than refrigerated. Clean the tank out with whatever kind of disinfectant you usually use, and keep a good eye on the male...hopefully, it was a calcium issue or something similar and not something contagious to the other gecko.

Something else came to my mind, some types of toxicity can produce strange symptoms in animals...be careful that after cleaning any cages to thoroughly rinse any soap or disinfectant with HOT water,I was once in a pet store and saw the employee spraying Windex directly into the reptile tanks and just wiping with a paper towel...I doubt that any owner would do this but it can't be emphasized enough that bleach+ other cleaning agents are deadly.I have actually been using a diluted mixture of red wine vinegar to clean cages...I read that it's 100x stronger than bleach[and yet we can put it on a salad]Then I just rinse it off .

White vinegar works awesome too. I use a 10 parts water to 1 part vinegar diluted solution.

i am so sorry to hear about your girl, and iggy. Lovely names by the way, big fan of mythology here. How is Hades doing since he lost his cage mate? and did you ever find out what happen?
