Earlier this summer Mr. Khan contacted us asking to be put on the wait list for table space at our reptile expo. We were eventually able to procure a table for him ( about 3 weeks out from the show), and he assured me that the table payment would be sent asap. Two weeks later, and a week before the show, we still had not received his table registration fee. I called him to see if he was still coming, and was assured that indeed he was definitely going to be coming with his geckos. Since we were at that point so close to the show date, he asked if he could pay upon arrival, and I reluctantly agreed. This is not something that I normally allow, but he had been a vendor with us previously and was very enthusiastic, so I felt that he could be trusted.
Of course the end result was that he did not show up at the show, nor did he contact us that day. His table sat empty, and thinking that maybe he was caught in traffic I even turned away a couple of opportunities the morning of the show to re-sell the table to other vendors!!
Following the show I made several attempts to reach him, and he finally called back 2 days later stating that an emergency had come up at work that morning, preventing him from attending. I explained that he was still liable for the cost of the table. It had sat empty with HIS name on it, and I had turned away several other opportunites to re-sell it in the good-faith assumption that he was actually going to show up! If he had bothered to call, I could have re-sold it for him. He claimed that he understood, and that he would send the payment right out.
It is now 10 days later, and no check.
While I am not going to comment one way or the other on his geckos, I would certainly use caution in any business dealings with Naim Khan/ Amazing Geckos. The man does not keep his word!
It is a shame that experiences like this will force me to take a much harder approach in dealing with the vendors at our shows. I try to be a nice guy and work with people fairly, but being taken advantage of like this really ticks me off!!
