In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Nate Swanson Seattle reptile / Swanee's Exotics

people before money.. That's the secret LMAO.Its a business businesses do not give up goods and get nothing in return. Anyone that knows Michael as a person knows its not about money to him. its principal. he trusted someone and they burned him. He is sharing his experience with Fauna.

People before Money... yeah Nate must have missed that little secret. His facebook page is full of animals he is taking in his shop and selling to make a profit.

Im so happy for you that you can afford to take a lose. Not everyone is as lucky or blessed as you. If Nate used your Philosophy about people before money the thread would not exist.

And you are right Nate may not be affected at this moment but its gonna catch up..Perhaps it already has.. maybe that's why he is ducking the emails and posts on facebook...

There is no such thing as luck. You too can be just as blessed as I am, in fact, everyone can, but not many will. Sad, but true.
FWIW, I agree Nate is in the wrong here. No question about it. My response to the OP is from a different perspective than your's. What is the dollar amount the OP is out due to this theft?

Perhaps many of us are blessed already. I know I am. But my philosophy is a bit different. I believe a mans word is bond and can be applied to business as well as personal life. Nate gave his word to a friend and did not follow through. Instead of saying " Hey michael things are tight or Im having trouble getting the animals I agreed to trade" he chose to hide and not return calls etc.. That is just wrong. To take from a friend and expect them to take it is just wrong. I don't care who you are.

I understand that you are not defending Nate. The point is 100.00 or 1.00 Michael is owed animals or cash and Nate has not followed through.

I will not hijack this thread with personal philosophy. I apologize to all the readers for straying from the topic.

Just because I have come to the conclusion that nothing is going to come of this does not mean that I do not want something in return. I totally wish this dead beat would be at a show I am attending, because honestly I would take what is owed hoping he would start some crap. The fact that he took the animals that we sent knowing that he was not going to complete the trade makes him a flat out crook. All this personal BS that a certain person is posting is not helping the problem at hand.

Here is some more info for you. This is the final post from him that I got on facebook, and I am posting a image from his pricelist that he posted recently showing he still is selling the ruthveni pair sent to him. It also shows that he still has the axolotls that were supposed to be shipped to my buddy that did not receive his part of the trade.
Here is the original link to the pricelist:

How has this thread hurt Nate?

It has damaged his rep further and rightfully so. Unless someone comes up with a plausible excuse why he did not follow through on this trade deal the OP says was made, there may be some who will be leery about doing biz with such a person.

The only thing that would be rational for Nate to do at that point is to feel guilty and want to really set things right. Now this might not happen, but statistics would agree it has a higher probability with my line of reasoning than yours.

The BOI in general does not seem to be filled with scammers who are overcome with guilt and shower their victims with goodness and restitution.

Agreed. But!
Is backing the guy up against the wall going to help the OP? I think not.
As I suspected earlier, Nate tells us on facebook this is the worst year of his life, so this kind of negates the theory he is well-off at this point.
I also agree a man's word is his honor, and apparantly this guy has very little honor at this point. As I stated earlier, my advice may not work with Nate one bit, and probably won't get any blood out of this turnip, but it is a better route to take than the one the OP is currently on. All he (the OP) is doing is letting Nate control how he reacts by doing the typical reaction of 'I trusted someone and they ripped me off'. I'm saying tell Nate you wish him the best, be sincere, and see what life brings your way. You may just be pleasantly surprised. This is also coming from a guy that used to have to donate plasma to go right next door to Publix and buy groceries with the $20, so I do know the value of money.
As far as my personal experiences about which I typed earlier, I thought they were pertinent to the essence of this thread, which to me is about trust, loyalty, and friendship. If I was wrong, my apologies to the OP.

Anthony, I don't know you, we've never done business, and probably never will. Nate didn't tell "US" anything. He told Michael in a pm on FB, It was a ploy for sympathy, nothing more.

Michael and John are 2 of the most honorable and generous men that I know, I am grateful to have them in my life.

We as friends have been through more hardships together as friends than most do in marriages that I know.

John through his phone calls has been a life line to me when I needed him most, this was based on love and mutual respect for each other, no amount of money can be buy that. In fact, I have sent John animals with no personal gain to be had. Just pay it forward. John has helped me with things in my life and has sat and listened to me for hours on the phone, not for money or the next best snake, but out of friendship and love.

Michael is like a son to me. We share our lives with each other. We started out as business people. Seller and customer. It developed over time into family, that's how we view ourselves today.

We enjoy each others critters as Michael has a very diverse collection, with years of experience and successful accomplishments. It took commitment and time on Michael part.

And the crux of this situation, Michael trusted Nate and believed that his trust was being returned. I have seen some of the animals that Nate has sent Michael, I have held and watched grow the animals the Michael sent Nate. All my dear friend wanted was a little note stating that he was still working on getting the animals that he wanted and was owed, nothing more and nothing less.

I have been in Nate's shoe's before, it's not a pleasant place to be, however my outcome was different in the way that I handled myself. and I managed to right a wrong that I had gotten myself into. My hope is that Nate will do the same.

Laura, your previous posts echoes my exact sentiments. You hope Nate will step up to the plate, as do I. What would be the best way to get him to do so:

A) STEP UP TO THE PLATE BOY!!! THIS HERE SHOTGUN IS COCKED AND LOADED, AND IF YOU DON'T DO EXACTLY WHAT I WANT, 'cause you owe me see, I IS GOING TO BLOW YER HEAD CLEAN OFF!!!

B) Nate, not sure what the problemo is here, but I'm sure we can work things out. Hope everything is alright at your end, and if you need anything at all, let me know brother. (Then leave him alone, and if he responds, great, if not, count yourself blessed that all it cost you was those animals to find out he is not trustworthy, and not more).

C) WAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Wa-wa-wa-WAHHHHHHH!!!! Daddy doesn't love me!!! - Ooops, wrong thread.

I have not personally dealt with this person but have run across their displays at the Seattle, Puyallup, and Tacoma reptile expos. I have seen what are obviously flipped and undernourished animals. I spoke with them at one point about leos, but the attitude of the associate on the phone regarding leos was flippant and dismissive.
I know there's too many leos in the market, but you don't have to be rude about it!

Add to this that they ALWAYS have some spam or another on the Seattle Craigslist, looking for "unpaid interns" or "volunteer employees". They have enough resources to get "wild caught" animals (another whole ethical quagmire), but they can't spare the time or money for good consistent employees of customer service. That just doesn't sit right with me.

What stuck with me most was the skinniest supersnow leo I've ever seen, it was at the Tacoma show two or three years ago. I walked away from that table wary from then on of this business. I called the store about a week later to see if I could get it from them, it looked SO sick. I was told, no, they didn't have it anymore. No explanation as to what happened to it when asked.

So while I DON'T have personal business interactions with these folks, it was mostly because I was spooked off early by what I saw, heard, and observed.

I have heard other rumors, but since they are rumors, I will not speculate on them here.

Lmao Dude wtf....

I understand your line of thinking and believe me with alot of people you may use this approach. In this case I do not think its going to work. Its the lack of communication on Nates part. His website and facebook pages are full of animals that would be more than enough to squash this issue. Nate just does not communicate anything with Michael.

Michael has stated all he wants is to finish the trade. He even asked Nate is there was anything in his shop that he could send instead. NATE HAS DUCKED THE ISSUE. This makes him a bad guy in my book.

Michael is my friend and I would like to see him get what is owed. I do not wish to see Nate livelihood ruined. He is the one in control of his own life and has yet to try and fix this. His actions alone are ruining his reputation.

Again I completely understand the advice you are trying to give Michael but its not going to solve this by just giving Nate a pass..

I'm kind of curious as to which state he is acquiring these desert iguanas from? I have a feeling it isn't legally. Maybe that's something to dig into as well.

to nate if your reading these,do whats right and send your end of the trade
to micheal i hope you get your end of this trade so we all can move on to the next boi

still no animals for me or my friend. Going to keep posting to keep it up since it looks like a show in his area is coming up.

Sent them a link on facebook, and they will be emailed it also. It is definitely looking like he is never going to get back with me on any of this, and I am already sending my buddy he stiffed animals that are way better then what Nate promised. Unlike him I know how to take care of friends, and keep my word.
