Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New Mountain Horned Dragon... questions.

Hello

Hello,

Great that they are both gaining weight now! I am sure their stools are quite nasty, if they were loaded! :D This is definitely progress, for sure. It sounds like your MHD is feeling better if she is hissing & puffing her dewlap out some now. That is definitely a great sign if she is getting some of her attitude going now, fighting, etc. Yeah, now you can squirt food into her easier though! LOL
All of those worms sound fine no problem. That is an excellent variety for them both. The supers should not be fed to your beardie until she is 15-16 inches in length to avoid impactions. Your MHD should be ok with them.
I think that they are both on the right track now, & are gaining weight. You have been doing such a super job with them both.
I will give some thought to some names. They are both female, right?

Tracie

Yup, both girls.
I wondered about the superworms and the beardie... the looked like really big mealworms which I know have that hard shell and aren't good.

Yes, Yes,Yes!!!

The Mountain H.D. Ate crickets today on her own! And quite a few too!

I wish we didn't have to restart one of their med. Regimens again today. But I think if she's comfy enough to eat w/ us now she probably will continue to. Anyway.

I'll probably put this on the other post too since we've all been talking about all of it on all of them !! LOL.............So yippee!

Hello

Hello Gigi,

GREAT to hear! :D That is really really good news. I know that must have been so happy to see that.
Well, the meds must not be bothering her all that much though if she finally ate. That is awesome. Hopefully she is on the mend now.

Tracie

Excellent NEWS!

Hey Guys,

Absolutely wonderful that the MHD is eating on her own now!! That is great news.

Maybe you guys should name her after Pandora...maybe a little bit of her fighting spirit came through to your girl!

I just got back from our fishing trip to the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, we actually were fishing in the Bays but it was great fun. Zip on the keepers but I caught a sting ray and that was a first for me. Jeff got an eel...that was the first thing we caught on Saturday's outing.

I tried to check in over the weekend but I kept getting booted so I'm just now hearing your wonderful news about how well your girls are doing. Congratulations...the MHD will probably get pissed about the meds so look forward to some sulkiness. She might not eat for a couple of days since that will probably piss her off...but she'll give in and munch down those crickets again soon! Her gut is feeling better so she doesn't mind eating. I love it when they get an attitude again...means she's getting better! Keep up the good work!! =) Angie

This is

wierd but I just realized that my Jackson's are named Eldora and Pan...subliminal message from Pandora?

Unfortunately she's eaten just that one time. We put waxworms in her cage last night and the crickets from the morning were still there. Gigi will see what all is gone later on this morning.
We have to feed today and the next couple days for the 3 day Albon continuation.
More later...

Hello

Hello Gigi,

Well, I hope that she is doing better today, did she eat anything on her own today yet?
Keep plugging. I am sure that the meds do bother her a bit, unfortunately. Poor girl, what a rough start she had. You are doing a great job!! :D

Tracie

Eating?

Well I don't think she is yet . But I saw her drinking from her drip cup I made her when she thought I wasn't looking! And she has been easier to get the food and meds down. Tho I have been feeding a little less often to get her to eat on her own.
Do your MHD's eat every day, regularly?

Well they both still weigh the same, she hasn't lost any over the few days I've cut down on her feedings.. G.

MHD eating habits

Hi...just saw the post about daily eating...the babies eat several times a day. I usually give them two bowls of Phoenix worms every day. The adults used to eat every day...usually 1-2 nightcrawlers/earthworms or 3-4 crickets or 2-3 giant mealworms/superworms then they slowed down to where they eat every other or every two days and Bruja was eating every day because she's gravid. She's slowed down now and seems to be considering where she's going to start digging. I would say that they eat every day until they are older...I don't know how old the WC are but 2Toe is about 2 now. The WC ate voraciously when I first got them because I think they were starving.

She may have dropped weight because of the meds working and moving everything out of her gut including the parasites. Mine usually go up and down in weight within about 5 grams.

I've noticed that mine are getting down running around the cage but it's when I'm gone...I can come in and they will be down running around and it's like...dang! she caught us moving!

All you can do is keep trying....Angie

Hello

Hello Gigi,

I know it is frustrating, but as Angie said, just keep trying & doing what you are doing. I really really hope that it pays off for her.
The meds are probably dehydrating her just a tad. They just do that, & it is very hard to keep them hydrated. If that is all she lost, that isn't bad at all.
So you must be getting enough food into her right now.
Keep us posted on her.

Tracie

Well... we have cut her tube feedings back to every other day or so. She will now and then eat A (one) cricket. She isn't pooping as much either... but not as much food. We thought the feeding was stressing her. She still has a more "normal" attitude when we pick her up, etc... getting pissy and puffing out her dewlap. I'll have Gigi write more later...

Excellent progress....she's acting just like a WC should....Diablo was from hell when I first got him. Thrashing around when you tried to pick him up. He bit me all the time. He was a wild man. He's calmed down huge the 3-4 months.

You should only get one poop every two days, that is normal for an adult. She might not be hungry because the tube feeding is so nutrituous. I think you're right to cut that back. You might even go 3-4 days just to see if she'll feed on the insects. Will she eat an earthworm or nightcrawler? I always thought them too big, but they slurp them right down like spagetti.

Keep us posted! Angie =)

Hello

Hello Gigi,

That is great she is doing so well! I agree, cutting back on the assisted feeding will help her to gradually get her appetite back & want to eat on her own.
You have done a really super job with her. She is even getting an attitude as well, so she must be feeling pretty well, or quite a bit better anyway. :D

Tracie

eating..

Well I tube fed her yesterday, 2cc, and about ten minutes later i had her sitting on my shirt while I was messing w/ her cage. I had some extra 'formula' left in a 1cc. So just for kicks ,not expecting anything at all,,,,, I tried to see if she would maybe just take some from the dropper from me, ( w/out having to do the hold/ force ,struggle thing etc.. )To my delight she took it! She drank down almost the whole cc on her own w/out having to put in her mouth.
But she still acts so nervous for the most part in or out of her cage. G...

Wow...that's great...mine will do that when I show them the slurry I make for them. She'll take a long time to settle in - I mean a long time. Several months. Mine are just getting over the move to the big cage and I did that in July. If she's just haning out on your shirt and not climbing to your head or jumping off that's a good sign! I'm glad she's coming around. =) Angie

nervous dragon...

ya she will sit on my shirt for long periods, the less I move around the better of course. but sometimes I have her on me while I'm digging around in her cage etc... Every now and then she gets spooked and moves very quickly around me to away from the front of me.. I tried a big yummy looking butter worm, and a red wiggler, today no interest. ,But she took 1 cc of her liquid from me w/ out having to force her again. What a relief.. G.......

Hello

Hello Gigi!

Oh that is great she took formula from you without having to assist feed! That is excellent news to hear. She is starting to slowly come around, & she is even sitting on you peacefully. I am very happy to hear that. Great job with her. Hopefully it will all be downhill from here now. :D

Tracie

Sorry we haven't been online much. Here's our update...
Well... we got her moved to her bigger cage (can't remember if we posted that or not). She seemed to like it... gave her more places to hide.
She still wouldn't eat on her own and if she did it was one cricket. So still tube feed. She really didn't seem like she wanted to acclimate.
We took her to the vet a couple of times. The scales on her dewlap and knees would flake off and not grow back. She was getting a little thinner even with feedings, which increasingly stressed her out. Got a bit of medicine and vitamins to add to the feedings. She just wanted to give up we think... so about a week and a half ago she passed away. She actually didn't look unhealthy really or even skinny. She just never did seem to acclimate. We did everything we could think of and we wouldn't have done as well with her if it hadn't been for you all helping, so thanks for that. I will say the lesson learned here is no more wild caught for us. It's just too sad...
