• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

No rules or ruthless enforcement of the rules?

No rules, or strictly enforced rules?

  • Strictly enforce the rules! Without them, the BOI is worthless.

I agree. I would have deleted my own post if I could. If it's so annoying - just get rid of it. Seeing as it has no relevance to the topic at hand, who would miss it other than the poster?

I voted for strict enforcement - and stand by it. Without rules, the BOI would be no better than **HELL**. Right now, it's not too far off. And the reason is the ISN'T strict enforcement. The only time I've EVER seen strict enforcement of the rules is with my post.

If every off topic post got a warning point, I'd bet we'd see a lot less. But the fact is I see the same people posting off topic all the time, and I never even see a warning.

I, on the other hand, didn't think in a moment of excitement, and got slammed on my first offense - and was belittled on top of it. If you are heavy handed with one, you need to be with all. Not doing so sends the wrong message - especially to the repeat offenders that you let slip.

I wish I had a nickle for everytime I have had to say this.......

Neither myself nor the moderators here read every post made on this site. Nor do I care to. To be honest, I really don't care to read what everyone writes. If you think I am going to read everything and then make a determination of whether the post is off topic or not, or violates one rule or another, you are sadly mistaken. And I certainly am not going to expect that of my moderators either.

So we tend to spot read. Or read threads that are of some interest. If violations are spotted, then it will likely be responded to. Or maybe not. None of the mods, nor myself, is REQUIRED to act on every violation. Especially when 80 percent of those acts get gripe-o-grams about them. Just as it is not possible for a traffic cop to catch EVERY speeder on a busy highway. But certainly some will be caught. And the argument to the cop that other people were going just as fast yet not being pulled over will have just as much influence with the cop as your argument is having with me. Quite simply and to the point, did you or did you not post an off topic message? That is really all that matters. If you do not want a mod or myself to respond to something like that, then simply don't do it.

The BOI has NEVER allowed people to delete their own posts, and I think a little thought about such a thing would give you a clear answer on why that is so.

So point blank, I am not going to read everything here. Nor are the moderators. And I am not going to add more moderators to make this place overbearing with mods looking for rule breakers to jump on. I read Jay's reply to you and quite personally, I think your skin is just a little bit too thin. I think your reply to Jay is much more rude then his was to you. But that is just my personal opinion on the matter.

Yes - I did post off topic, and that's why I have never asked for the point to be removed.

My beef was with the fact he felt it was OK to be insulting. It's not hard to see that's what he was doing. You may feel differently because you know him on a more personal level. Maybe he wasn't trying to be insulting - perhaps he had a bad day and was a little edgy. Does it matter? It still came out wrong.

Rude of me to stand up and tell him he's being rude? Maybe...but I'm not sorry for it. I don't like being walked on. There is a difference between having a thin skin and standing up for yourself.

The only other point I was trying to make is that the rules were not being enforced evenly...and I can see that's changing at the moment.

I understand it's a heck of a lot of thankless work being a moderator. Why do you think I have no desire to be one? I don't expect a moderator to read every post. I've seen some threads gain 100 new posts in a day - and that's a single thread. At the same time, I do expect a moderator to be level-headed, and as fair-handed as possible.

I also understand why I can't delete my own post - despite your implication to the contrary (the recent mass post deleting in Sound Off is a great example). I just want to know if an off-topic post is so annoying, why not have the moderator delete it? We're not missing anything, and I think people would get the message a lot quicker.

I would like to have an answer to the last question. It has been done in the trade board - and was effective. Why not clean up the clutter rather than adding to it?

Who would clean it up and decide what stays?
How far would the cleanup go?
Would it appear that this was a censored site?
Would Fauna mirror another site that deletes posts by the dozens?
I would rather we just stick to the rules.

Rules for posting in the BOI.
YOU have to take responsibility and ownership of the words you post here. So take great care in how you craft your statements. Once you submit your message, it will be here PERMANENTLY, no matter what happens afterwards.
I wish I could take back a few posts as well but I know it is here permanently.

The Trade Board at this time has two threads and its own moderator a lot easier to handle. It does not have a precedent as the BOI has for keeping posts as part of the permanent record, unless posted under a false or no name attached to the author.

Just my opinion.

It's a fine line and one that I have trod many a time.

Just figure that some folks just don't get it and none of it is really lifechanging anyway.

Water off a ducks back and all that.

Thank you for being informative and respectful. I wish more posts were like this!

I kinda think you wrote the book on it WES> :hehe:

I would have to agree with dennis after reading his post because the rules are laid out plainly for everyone to see. I too wish i could remove some of my posts (especially when i wanted to give Adam & Peter Another chance) but we all live and learn. I am not so quick to hit that "submit reply" button anymore. I make sure i re-read everything before i hit it just in case it doesnt come out the way i intended it to. In some ways it is a very good thing to know everything on the BOI is permanent, 10 years from now you just may want to look up something from a long time ago and be very glad its still there for proof!!!

Enforce It!!

STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF THE RULES..........DELETE 'EM ALL! :uzi: LOL

I say follow the rules or pay the price. It's simple as that. Like mentioned earlier, it works in society also.
You go against the grain, and you'll get a splinter every time.

I think the paying member thing is good also. People are a lil less likely to pay money just to put untrue statements on the site. So that also helps keep down the.......... "monkeys flinging poo".

Ciao,
Rick

I believe Some things should be deleted out of Respect
This is not a court of law...Its is a forum that helps the HOBBY
When Vulgar Pictures and Vulgar Accusations are left on the BOI it only serves to cheapen the site for others and they may even intimidate newcomers

one question

Dennis you shurely mean these "Vulgar Pictures and Vulgar Accusations"
are in hell not the boi?
The boi has rules and enforces them but hell has few rules.
If theses are on the boi please leve us a link to check it out and see.
ok

Bud,
Are you serious?
I already have(left a link) as a matter of fact on this very thread!
But that is not the only post of that nature on the BOI or other forums on Fauna you dont have to look very hard to find some trashy posts outside of the Hell forum
I know there is a reason for leaving that sort of trash on these forums,I just for the life of me dont know what it is?....Especially when those sort of posts usually dont have any bearing on these threads themselves And can and DO intimidate Newcomers

I think the board is fine just the way it is.

Someone will always be unhappy about something. GUARANTEED !!!

Everything that is going on now is what gives fauna its character.

I say things are fine.

Although if I did have it my way......
I would delete all my dumb posts.
But that would mean that instead of having 3700+ posts.......
I would only have like two (2)    :bolt01:
