In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

NYKC Herps, Bad People

Great post. I know once you are caught lying, it's hard to get people to trust you again. What you said was harsh but well put. You made excellent points.

Look, I agree that kids make mistakes. They're kids, and that's what kids do from time to time. I also agree that five year olds with snakes in the house learn about them faster than kids who don't have that exposure/experience.

HOWEVER, this kid set up his profile to show that he was 23 years old. He said he all this experience breeding reptiles. He said that he had eleven years real experience. None of which is true. It was ONLY after it was revealed that he is really 16 that this debate over whether a 5 year old can be a herper got started, and THAT was just to cover his tracks in another lie.

So, all of this stuff, while interesting, really doesn't have anything to do with this situation. It was just a nice diversion to distract us from the fact that THIS particular kid has been lying about several different aspect of his "experience."

I'd like to see this kid turn himself around, become a good herper, and be an effective member of the community after he has eleven years of REAL experience. But I'm not going to just help him continue to pretend his way there. Just MHO.

ok guys, i try to be a "good herper" but i just hate it when people think i am nit capable of things just because i am younger. I take enough crap from my parents concerning reptiles, "put that thing up" "clean this" "i'll throw it away" blah blah blah... I admitt to exagerating, and well flat our lying. The truth is that i really did have 2 bearded dragons, and a anole when i was 5. I paid for crickets that i ordered on line with what allowance i got for doing house work. However i did have to care, clean, feed them all by myself, i had a neihbor who was a big herper and taught me all about the care and maintainance of them. And i have been breeding bearded dragons for the last year or 2 i have had about 7 clutches so far. more soon.

Kenneth,

First of all, please add a signature line to your profile so that you don't risk deletion of your posts. You have to put your full name on the BOI posts.

Now.....I appreciate your honesty. Admitting that you exaggerated and even lied about a few things is the first step in straightening out your reputation around here. Now you just have to continue on a path of honesty and integrity.

I love to see young people interested in herps, as do many of the other Fauna members. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a couple of bearded dragons!!! Please don't feel like you have to have a massive collection OR endless experience to be respected as part of this community. If you are trying to build your collection and your breeding colony, excellent......there are tons of people here who can give you wonderful advice on how to do so, and can save you from making many mistakes. If you can only have your 2 beardies for now (it sounds as if your parents may not be thrilled about you having more than that), then spend as much time as you can learning about these marvelous animals. That will pay off tremendously when you are able to actually start building your collection.

Good luck to you.

They sold crickets ONLINE in 1991? I remember the internet filtering into exsistence around 1994, and then all you could do was look at picture of dinosaurs. And that took 20 minutes. 'Course, I wasn't a herper back then, I was a kid in high school waiting to look at a Troodon and paying per the minute to do it.
And if I were given several hundred dollars to spend on what I wanted to at age five, I would have bought 300 candy bars and Castle Greyskull. And maybe those Transformers that fit together. Those were cool.

Ya see here, beardie breeder. There are now more lies in your last post than any other (as far as I can tell)
I will not point out all of the lies in your experience, but I will mention a few that caught my eye.

1. You tried to cover your butt about being driven to pet stores to buy food, by claiming you ordered food online when you were 5. You know darn well you were not ordering crickets online at the age of 5.

2. Your sucess rate with the beardies went from 18 clutches to 7, and I would still like to know what you did with the 70+ baby beardies that you said you produced.

My point is, I doubt you did have dragons when you were 5, It is very easy to see that IF you did keep them at 5 that you didnt care for them entirely, and no way have you been breeding them for the last few years.

I would suggest that you take some of the other members advice and try not to continue to exaggerate. A great number of people have tried to look past your dishonesty and have tried to help you.

I will quote some things you may want to pay extra attention to.
Please don't feel like you have to have a massive collection OR endless experience to be respected as part of this community
Now you just have to continue on a path of honesty and integrity.
I'd like to see this kid turn himself around, become a good herper,
(I agree that experience is qualitative rather than quantitative

Dont feel bad, I am now 26 and I have been keeping/collecting herps since I was 7-8 years old. I still have a great deal of things to learn. I also understand that there is no better place to get info from people that have been in this field, than right here. It may seem like we are jumping down your throat, but we are here to help.
