In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Harald, Toni, and all,
I live 15 mins. from Dr. Southerlands office.
If I can get away from the zoo I'll drive over tomorrow and look at that poor snake and report back here.

That's a really nice offer. Also, I forgot to add in my previous posts that I think Cathy Maynard's offer was very generous and kind as well.

Thanks for asking this question . My daughter is an adult . She is so intellegent and her academics so high that she gets paid to go to school by the school itself. She earned it . Once her tuition , books, room and board are pd they give her a chunk each semester to do with what she wants . It belongs to her . If she wants to spend it on a snake pymt as this is her venture as well..then that is her buisness . She is perfectly capable of making her own decisions and it is really none of your buisness .So in actuality Debbie has done this to my daughter as well.. not that it seemed to matter obviously .

No one cares about your daughter. If she paid Debbie - she should be here. People like you I would never deal with - bringing personal life into business. 'I spent my daughter's scholarship money oh I'm going to cry about it now.' If you didn't want it repeated here, you shouldn't have started a BOI thread that is supposed to dissect everyone's words.

And stop commenting on the damn snake. You haven't seen it [by your own admission] in several weeks. And suggesting that the vet (someone who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars year at minimum) who diagnosed the snake as 'exhibiting signs of IBD' is the definitive resource here now when people question what happened to the snake? Guess what - more people think it's overheating than it is inclusion bodies. You posted a freaking letter your vet wrote, rather than a medical report/document as your current-standing diagnosis of the snake. Heat pack and foil insulation and terribly undersized packaging hasn't hit you yet as the probable cause for the snake's behaviour? Your beyond help Toni.

I draw the line at asking Debbie to pay for the snake's euthanization on top of the stupid mess you brought her through here. You brought your daughter into the deal and now you want to ruin her rep after she gives birth because you don't know how to see if a snake is acting normal or not when you first get it? Perhaps you shouldn't have delved into $1k + purchases for your first experience with pythons - did you think about that? You wanted to give it freakin' syrup because it was writhing and stargazing? That alone would have thrown up a red flag and told me that you were incapable of caring for an expensive animal.

Oh and Randal - just because Chuck isn't here anymore doesn't mean you have to attack Alicia. She wasn't wrong. Not enough to warrant calling her claim "assinine"[sic] and "ignorant". Why don't you go back to what you do best and spam some more theads with your "I Agree" emoticon?

Frank, Look around, Chuck is here. Besides I didn't know Chuck was Moo's protector. Moo can defend herself. I thought she made an ignorant statement, my opinion, don't like it? too bad dude.

If the transaction was Toni's there is no reason that the daughter needs to be here. If I buy a snake with my credit card I am using the banks money that doesn't mean I have to have a representative of the bank come to the BOI to back my story.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to question the integrity of the vet -- exhibiting symptoms of IBD it most certainly is -- he has not stated the snake has IBD - get the difference? If not I could get how you probably wouldn't understand how a vet or a vet tech to look at the snake and determine that it's condition is unchanged and report that to you over the phone so you don't have to haul your butt over there every day.

I could also understand how it would be hard for you to get that that with the possibility that there could be IBD involved it would put customers past and present mind at easy to know the truth - especially when Debbie herself said she probably wont be able to sell the replacement animal with the possibility looming over her.

the bottom linr is debbie needs to give toni her money back and stop trying to weasel her way out of it it does not matter that toni got the snake with her daughters money for her daughter the piont is toni should get every penny back

you know what spawn no one cares about your 2 cents okay i dont think any one should deal with people like you grow up debbie is in the wrong she needs to fix it

by the way before you say No one cares about your daughter maybe you should ask people first

Ed - I understand your point about the heat packs...but this was from California to Arkansas (I spent a couple winters in AR, so I am not wholly unfamiliar with the temperature ranges), and the box was lined with Reflectix. The (weather) conditions the day of shipping definitely could have been a factor, esp if the package was picked up vs dropped off. If it was a warm day (I don't know where in Cali Auburn is), the inside temps could have gotten hot enough to cause problems with a single heat pack. Again, I'm not stating this is what happened, and I don't feel there has been enough posted to make that call......but I don't think it is can just be assumed that the snake went into the box like that either.

There are some unknows here. I don't dispute that.

The fact that Toni was not satisfied and was not promptly refunded is not an unknown.

I have to agree that, regardless of what is wrong with the snake, the mere fact that the seller was informed that the buyer had an issue with the snake on the day it arrived, and went ahead and spent the money, shows poor business sense. For that reason alone I would be reluctant to do business with her. She should have at least let the money sit for at least a week or two until things were resolved. Now she's having to play catchup (I hope) and come up with funds to refund the buyer. I don't think the seller is a "scumbag" as someone said, however.

Quick question.

What competent and practiced reptile vet sends blood smears to diagnose IBD, and only later learns that IBD can only be truly diagnosed by several organ biopsies??

And suggesting that the vet (someone who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars year at minimum) who diagnosed the snake as 'exhibiting signs of IBD' is the definitive resource here now when people question what happened to the snake?

Not sure what the salary of the vet has to do with anything, but your statement of the vet making "hundreds of thousands of dollars a year at minimum" is absurd, and laughable.

Below is the average salary of a vet in Arkansas; even a vet earning in the upper 90 percentile group doesn't come close to making "hundreds of thousands of dollars a year".

Arkansas:
Veterinarian
Annual mean wage: $71370
Annual median wage: $64510
Annual 90th percentile wage: $116940

IBD can be diagnosed by blood smears.
It can't be ruled out by only blood smears, but as I stated previously, you cannot rule out IBD, as the vet can always state the inclusion bodies were just not in that section biopsied.

One that is following the advice of the expert Dr Jacobsen and also per Debbies request .

Is he experienced with reptiles? I find it odd that he only just learned about how IBD is most often diagnosed AFTER he sent out the smears. Does no one else find that odd??

Just to put it plainly, there are quite a few diseases that have many of the same symptoms as IBD, most reptile vets know it is hard to diagnose. So why would he only just learn about the biopsy with your case? Seems like it is an important subject for a competent reptile vet to be well aquainted with. :shrug01:

Yes! Dr. Elliot Jacobson is VERY experienced!

However, you made a great point, there ARE other diseases that mimic IBD, or should I say IBD mimics other diseases, such as hypo-glycemia, "star-gazing, righting-reflex" etc.

From the beginning Toni called a bunch of vets in her area and this was the only one that would see the snake. If I'm understanding correctly the vet is not a reptile specialist but was willing to help where others weren't. As he is currently working with Dr. Jacobsen to figure out what is wrong with the snake I'm sure if it's something else they will catch it.
