    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

OK, I knew i would get bit hard enough for blood to run down my arm, but I was completely surprised by who did it. Now to his defence, before I say who, it wasn't his fault, nor mine. :raspberry

On of my friends was over and I was showing him his little girl that's here with me and some of my other Leos. When he accidentally knocked over a metal ribbon rack and made a very loud noise. Which inturn scared the crap out of my newest and sweetest gecko...Strongbad....who happend to be being put back into his tub by me. Well Strongbad whipped his little head around and bit me. I felt it and didn't think it was bad as it was. Within a few seconds I had blood dripping down my arm and a chunk of skin missing.

First picture is after applying pressure for 15 min, still bleeding. Second picture is after a few hours.

Oh yes, when theyre scared youd be shocked at how much of a good nipping these little guys can give ya. Which makes me wonder just one things, if these little calm lizards can draw blood and a decent amount of it, what about larger lizards with bigger teeth? Iguanas? Monitors(especially, given theyre carnivores for the most part), heck, even beardies might give a good nip i suppose. I shudder to think about the damage a pissed Black Throat could do to my hand and/or arm.

Yeah, I have had a similar bite by a big male and it is shocking the first time it happens. Strongbad's a big boy, apparantly he's got some decent sized choppers too!

Having been bit by a tokay gecko(no surprise there) a couple of times I know how that feels. I have also been bit by an adult iguana too, it did not hurt as much as the tokay, but the bite range was much larger. I have had close encounters with black throat monitors and an argentine tegu, those I am sure would be far worse, but they missed each time. What I do not want to be bit by is a turtle, that looks painful.

i was bit on my forearm by a 20lb adult snapper from a local pond. didnt break the skin thankgod since i had a long sleeve shirt on, but man do they pack a punch! its likea vicegrip, but more of a pinch than pure crushing. dont get my wrong, theres ALOT of pressure as well. i was trying to grab a frog and didnt notice the turtle till it was too late, boy was that a shocker to see the head in the weeds under the water a second too late and watch as it shot out and grabbed my arm. youch!
:ack2:

One of my RESs got me, kind of like being bit by a parrot.

The location of this bite is what makes it hurt. I had to finish another 50 latex balloons after that happend. Right in the crease man hurts every time I move my finger. Thank got I've got some jelly Lidocaine!

ouch!

sorry that happened to you! i haven't been bit by a leo yet (knock on wood) but i did have a 230g Grand Terra Leachie get me...so much for hand feeding them banana and fuzzies haha! actually i still do...=)

Ouch! That's a big bite! I'm lucky to say that I've only been biten by baby leos...(knock on wood); and a near miss when I was feeding silkworms to one of my male, he aimed at my finger instead...:)

I'm jinxed!

I have been bitten by every reptile we have that can bite! Except for the Green Anole we just got. I feel lucky there. Jakers bite me twice! Gex bite me twice! Jake didn't even hurt, I didn't even notice him biting because his head is so small right now. Hes a Baby! Jake will get bigger though, and then I'm done for! Gex is a Juvi, and he left an upper mouth print on my hand for like an hour. I called him Spawn of Satan when I first got him cuzza that, but he grew on me! Hes so cute! How did StrongBad draw blood? I read that they have teeth, but every time I see Gex with his mouth open I don't see any teeth? Behavior question? We have seen Gex do this twice, once on the car ride home, and the first time we took him outside. He lifts his back straight up, and takes like 4 or 5 big "yawns." Uhmmm? Why does he do that?? Jeff and I guessed he was trying to taste the air! Thats what it looked like!!! Thanx! :)

now that i think about it...

actually i've also been bit by a 16 inch PUPPY TAME male yellow throated plated lizard about a decade ago...(they are really pretty if u don't know how they look like, they have lateral orange, black and yellow stripes)...i was handfeeding him ice cream which both the male and the female loved haha! handfeeding sure is fun, but it also gets me into trouble =P

Ugh, I got one like that on my thumb. It went straight down into the tip about a centimeter, bled for a good 30 min. That hurts, sorry it happened!

OUCH is right !!!

Why when they bite our hands do they have to nail us in the creases when it hurts like hell to bend you finger?
I have a full grow Iggy and 3 Blue Tongues-3 Bearded Dragons and the only lizards (thank God) that i have ever been bit by are the Leos
It is annoying ( they have yet to draw blood from me yet) but I'd settle for a bite from one of them any day rather than from this girl
LOL

Thanks everyone! I cleaned out the wound, I'm sure my finger will be fine. More worried about the fright that Strongbad went through them my finger.

Almost like this ----> :eatsmiley

You really can't see the teeth. Like very small razors. If your finger rubbed against them it would feels like sand paper.

That would hurt to be bit there. I have been bit by bird before and those really hurt, of course I am talking about nut cracking beaks and not some dainty cocktails. Every time I look at my not so friendly box turtle and how wide she can open her mouth, it just makes me a bit more cautious.

Ahhh... a mere 'flesh-wound', LOL!!! I was holding someone's large male leo looking closely at his eyes and the next thing I knew he nearly bit the end of my nose off! Seriously... it bled like crazy, and I had a perfect red ring around the tip of my nose for several says. It hurt, too! (Not to mention I was embarrassed beyond words). :(

Welcome to the club.
Definately more scarey than painful. There is the shock, follwed by disbelief, then blood and you know it's real. lol :reddevil:

I got this back in January from Gilean...it bled like crazy too. It makes me wonder in there are anti-coagulant properties in the saliva. This took a looooong time to heal fully. The cuts from the teeth were teeny-tiny...I get worse papercuts at work!

This was roughly 2 weeks later (just one side of the bite). It never got infected...just didn't want to heal.
