    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Maybe I'm insane. Maybe I'm right on the money.

I think that owens, the moderator, is NOT a good moderator.

I would like other opinons on this. IF I'm wrong, I'd like to know. If I'm right, then something should be done.

I am NOT being discourtious or any of the other things owens that owens has recently accused me of.

I am seeking facts and other points of view to ascertain whether or not my thoughts and feelings on this matter are valid.

No dissing, just a simple yes he is or no he isn't, if you please.

1) You include no definitions or parameters and
2) This is not your choice to make. Rich runs this board and chooses those he wishes to have as moderators; all the popular opinion in the world one way or another is irrelevant, because I believe Rich knows what he needs in a mod.

My opinion:
This is an issue that I believe best kept private.

I'm not going to say he is good or bad, he is following a set of guide lines that Rich has asked all to conform to. Does he have a personal issue with you....I'm inclined to say yep!!

An old trick, when asking people for honest choices, is simply to question their choices based on who they are, instead of analyzing what they are saying.
I did not think you would stoop to it, Wes, I am entitled to think what I wish, and I do not think this thread is appropriate.
 
An interesting question.

I have not seen any direct evidence to say he is a "BAD" moderator, therefore I cannot say he is doing a bad job.

As far as personal persecution by a moderator goes, this is what I think...

If I was a mod here, and I'm not nor likely to be, and I saw a bunch of "bad post" thingies about you Wes, I would first look at who is complaining. If it is your well-proclaimed arch enemies, I might take the report with a grain of salt.

HOWEVER, the bigger picture is that you, Wes, like to push the limits, and do like to use degrading language towards those whom you have decided are the scum of the universe. Now in several cases I concur with your opinion Wes, but that would not result in my being degrading towards those individuals. I much more enjoy trying to use my intellect to point out their weaknesses and allow others to draw the "he's a moron" conclusions in their own minds without my having to actually point it out to anyone.

I think the biggest thing that is desired here, Wes, is for you to keep your own derogatory opinions of a person (Joe schmoe is a MORON) to yourself, and instead point out Joe Schmoe's weaknesses (Joe Schmoe, as we can see from this proof, freezes Doggies in ziploc baggies)... nobody needs to HEAR that he is a "moron" to THINK that he is a moron. ILLUSTRATE for us how the person is a moron without TELLING us he is.

So NO, I am not convinced by the evidence presented to me that Dr. Owens is a BAD moderator. I am convinced, however, that one of my favorite people on this board is on the threshold of being booted and I would so much feel that to be a loss to this board.
 
There is one simple circumstance that Wes chooses to overlook. If you do not violate the rules, even by a hair's breadth, then NO moderator here can touch you. If you have proven to be a consistent problem here and one of more mods realize that you may need to be watched more closely then most other people, then whose fault is that? All you are doing is proving them correct in their assessment that YOU are more likely to cause problems then other people.

All mods here are under scrutiny all of the time. Not only by the membership but by myself and the other mods as well. None can remain here unless it is a UNANIMOUS decision among the mods and myself. All have been complained about at one time or another by the general membership, just as people have complained about my actions. We cannot please everyone, and are not really going to try. We are trying to run this site as best as possible and that often requires compromises on all fronts. Even I don't like all of the compromises I have to settle for, so why should I expect everyone else will find them all just ducky as well?

This site is just chock full of safeguards to allow whatever the moderation staff does to be fully scrutinized by myself, and some are available to the general membership as well. Any mod would have to be suicidal (as far as remaining a mod here is concerned) to blatantly violate my guidelines for how they have been requested to do their job here. Personally, I don't believe anyone that I have very carefully picked is THAT stupid. And certainly no one here is worth the risk to them of losing their position over. Because not only will they lose the moderation position, but I can undo absolutely anything they may have done in the process.

So Wes, just what is YOUR issue with Jay Owens? I think if anything, you are baiting myself and all of the mods with your actions, seeing how slick you can be and what exactly you can get away with. Look in the mirror bud, if you want to see where the problem lies. You are about to get permanently banned from this site, Wes. I suggest you take a sabbatical and think real hard about whether you really want that to happen or not.
 
Okay Wes, you asked for it. You said YES or NO, no inbetween.

Since I have only two choices I have to choose YES HE IS.

While I don't agree with some of his moderator's choices, I haven't found him to be wrong all the time. Remember he is only human and will make mistakes. And nobody is going to agree with anything any moderate does 100%. That's life.

Read it as you will, my opinion of him, as well as several others here, is NO secret.

I am just looking to see what others think of owens' moderation. It IS within the realm of possibility that I am in error about him.

I rarely look outside myself to see if what I think is right, I'm a fairly confident guy. In this instance, I am looking out to see if I'm right.

So far, I think I am.

THIS thread is about owens and whether or not the Faithful Fauna Readers think he's good or not.

You have indeed been a good person and helpful to many. You helped me when I got mites on my boas, I called and woke you at 6AM in California, and we talked snakes.
You can be a good and helpful person, and I would not say otherwise.
And I have shown you strong character throughout our many conversations, and have shown myself to be a good person also.

I think that this thread is a mistake, and I am standing up to you, to say so. I have said how I feel, always.

Each day begins anew. Wes, think of Fauna, it is a beautiful site. It is for me and many reptile people, the site we call home.
I believe that Dr. Owens is a good moderator and have said that to you in private conversations.
All I ask is that you do not make inappropriate posts, and I think this is one of them.
