In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Pet harbor in Boardman Ohio

absolute useless waste of carbon you are.

I think Elexis goes overboard sometimes, and I think it's OK to point that out even though she wants what we all want, that critters should be healthy and well taken care of. Pointing out issues in her behavior and asking her to change that behavior is different than attacking her as a person. I don't think that sort of attack is useful.
I think it is more helpful to firmly ask for more proof, or to disagree with how she perceives a situation if you see it differently.

What I have found with most Mom and Pop pet stores is imperfect animal husbandry issues. They have these animals to sell, they themselves don't keep a majority as their own hobby. I have offered suggestions when it comes to the reptiles, but I approach in a friendly (I wanna help) attitude. If you walk in raising hell because you don't like something, the first thing they do is ask you to leave. I don't blame them for that.

Personally, I think that this particular pet store is doing very well with the upkeep of their animals. I really don't understand why anyone would make them a bad guy. Just doesn't make sense to me.

There are numerous bad guy threads on Fauna, and a some after enough ideas, posts, and proof, turn out to be not really bad guys at all.
As always, readers here make the ultimate decision about what they are going to believe, based on the proof, other experiences, and the opinions of others. Many people have posted on this thread, and readers are offered an array of opinion here from which to base their own conclusions.
You should post your opinion, especially if you think that it will help others down the road. However, it can be done in a businesslike manner, without making personal attacks.

I'm sorry but after so much drama and so many cry wolf post that has the potential to damage a business I 100% agree with Billz. Hopefully the OP has or will realize the weight of such accusations and refrain from starting this circus again.

It is possible the the green tinge to the water is an additive to prevent algae growth or eliminate chlorine from the water.

I was happy to see that they had provided greens to the dragons, as most pet store just give them pellets.

All said, the pictures show a decent looking pet store.

:drama:

What she said.....as at least 10 posters have already said....lol
Looks like the op got the attention buzz she craved, sorry as I have never said anything negative against her before but after reading through this I just cannot see any other reason for the thread whatsoever.
Over 100 posts...not bad for a lot of nothing.....

I'm going to agree with Bill in this case. While normally I think being professional is the way to go, there's no way to remain professional with someone who is willing to stand in a pet store for an hour and a half trying to get people to pay attention to her and then throw a fit when everyone tries to ignore her hoping she'll just go away. If someone is going act like a toddler then they need to be treated like one.

Imagine her making a BOI thread with your name just because she didn't like you. That's basically what's happening here.

Suppose the BOI report should at least have the correct name of the pet store on it. Their name is actually "Harbor Pet Center". According to the BBB, they have an "A" rating. Over the past 3 years they have had 5 complaints, all resolved and closed. For a retail business that tends to generate heavy emotional responses, 5 resolved complaints and an "A" rating is pretty darn good. All from verified reviews.

In contrast Yelp, FourSquare, Yellowpages reviews tend to give the place a D/F rating. Unverified reviews, 95% dealing with "puppy mill" items.

I'm in no way defending puppy mills, or the shops that deal with them.

As far as the statement, "Keller said prelim results from an autopsy on her 6 month old pup, showed liver failure, she claims that's usually a direct result of over breeding."

Although maybe genetic, definitely not from over breeding, the puppy was 6 months old when it met it's untimely demise, it couldn't of been from over breeding, the pup wasn't old enough to breed.

I'd bet dollars to doughnut holes, that Harbor Pet Center, had nothing to do with the pups demise.

I just love it, when folks (that don't have clue) make things up, as they go....

I think that person meant the breeding of parents (creating a problem in the pup/progeny). ;)

However, you are right, there are clueless folks who pass around a lot of misinformation.

....

Wanted to add re. misinformation: While liver failure has some various causes, and can be genetic, the actual act, of over breeding, does not cause liver failure in pups.

....

As far as this store is concerned, the photos do not depict what I expected to see from the description of the place. I expected much worse and sure was surprised to see photos of a clean store.

Looks pretty typical, of these type of pet stores, that are on the cleanly side. Am not defending anything/anyone but have seen much, much, worse than what I see in the photos of this place. Certainly do not see anything that would be considered outright abuse either.

Although I do not see any diarrhea, Bill is correct. It's not always caused by illness and a diet change (as just one example) sure can cause it.
While diarrhea is noteworthy, one should not jump to negative conclusions (as though factual) wiithout knowing the cause. Especially, if pups/dogs look outwardly healthy (as these, in this store, seem to appear)

....

Elexis, while I commend you for having the passion to speak up when you think something is wrong, I think you are misguided on this particular store. It really doesn't look that bad. Now, I am uncomfortable seeing puppies in a store like that because of the links with puppy mills and I hate to see them stuck in those small cages, and I might be inclined to think negatively about that, but we have to be fair as well. I don't see any signs of neglect. I don't see anything too bad with the reptiles. As Lucille has asked, can you get better pictures? Honestly, Petco cages look worse sometimes (I realize that is setting the bar rather low).

There is another thread right now regarding a neglectful pet store, not sure if I'm doing the link right, but take a look. THAT is animal neglect and abuse. I don't think this store is anywhere in the same league as that. www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596659

It's the Justin Greenbeck, Colorado Pet company if I didn't do that right.

Another thing I wanted to say, Elexis - you clearly want to see animals properly cared for and that is a good thing. Can I just give you a bit of advice? Channel that energy into something more useful than internet drama. Yes, posting a thread when you think something is wrong is okay, but you have to realize that not everyone will agree. People asking for clarification and responding with their opinion is not an attack. There are a couple people who consistently argue with that you obviously have some sort of history with. Just ignore them. I would knock them for jumping on your posts, except that you do the same thing and I can see why they do it. So just cool off, and stay out of the fray.

Also, Elexis, have you had any, or currently have any snakes? If so, where did you get your fedders from?

Love it! She has owned snakes in the past for sure.

So this question will force me to now address something I have been meaning to but times been short. What has not been mentioned here yet, unless I have missed it, is why did she not notify the store of this review of hers. She says it all to help the poor suffering creatures, and she was "calmly" vocal at the store, so why did she not notify them that she posted her concerns here on Fauna, on FB, and on craigslist. After all, shouldn't that trigger the response she wanted?

My thoughts are that she didn't because that's who she is. An attention seeking liar who shows total disregard for those she tries to tarnish to satisfy her own self centered, self absorbed selfish needs. Contacting her victims will only lead to her being exposed as a liar and she certainly doesn't want that to happen again, and again, and again....

I contacted the store for two reasons. First because it is the right thing to do. Only a sneaky underhanded lying POS would "attack" a person or place of business as she has done here, on multiple forums and all in a sneaky underhanded manner.

2nd reason is I wanted to express to them that they should not underestimate the lengths she will go to make herself look good, and them bad. I offered them the following example

If a pet store has 30 dogs, then what you would expect on any given day is that there will be 30 times they will be cleaning dog poop, because you know, poop happens. What I have no doubt of is that ms craig would remain in the store, or area and go in multiple times, and wait for the opportunity to gather some pictures of said events. I also have no doubts that after doing so, she would post a half dozen,or dozen pictures here and claim "and this was all in the 2 minutes I was there"

It is simply who she is.

Warning: Please cease with the personally derogatory comments in this discussion. Calling anyone a "POS" or similar terms are personally derogatory attacks, and not welcome on this site. Try to keep this discussion less inflammatory and less personally derogatory in the future.

I've really debated posting in this thread because I don't want to seem to be simply just piling on Elexis, who I have no prior interaction with. But I keep coming back to one thing she said: my puppies from 2-3 years ago which weren't even planned to call me a wanna be dog breeder.
I believe Elexis wants to help animals. Elexis, unplanned litters of dogs and cats fill up animal shelters to the point that we kill several million animals a year because there are not enough homes for them all. And like puppy mills, unplanned litters from people who don't get their animals spayed and neutered are a HUGE part of that problem. So, I hope you have gotten your dogs altered by now and do everything in your power to prevent accidental litters in any future dogs you may have. *That* will be helping animals.
