I just wanted to inform everyone that "Protean Imports" is the new business name for Jason Perillo. The reason why he changed his business name from JPimports to Protean Imports and only uses Jason P is to prevent people from seeing the thread linked below. I just wanted everyone to be aware.

Pretty lame, lady
Are you sure the guy would go through all that trouble because of one thread on here?

Response

I am confused. I thought the purpose of this forum was to allow people to inquiry about a business prior to making a purchase. If an individual comes to this site looking for information on protean imports they will find nothing, however, there is a thread dedicated to Jason, the owner of Protean Imports. With that being said shouldn’t the prospective buyer have a right to locate said posting? Jfarah please explain why we should allow people to hide from a reputation by changing their business name? Is this fair to prospective buyers who are looking to make an informed decision by coming to this website?

I personally was interested in some Mantellas Jason had for sale. I came here looking for information on him and found nothing. I ask a few friends if they have heard of Protean imports and I was informed that he was also the owner of JP imports. Had my friend not known this I would have likely made a purchases that I otherwise would have decided against.

Lastly, it isn’t very difficult to change a business name, especially if an individual isn’t a legitimate business in the first place. This is why the reptile industry is saturated with scam artist and thieves.

The board of Inquiry is for business transactions between you and another buyer. This would probably do well in the "missing" forum secion of this site, but you might be told it to go elsewhere.

While your post has good intentions, its just in the wrong forum. ( if this is now allowed somone please correct me though :p)

Thank you for the information, if anything.

okay, last post. man im bad at this.

That thread ended up going well, and was truly a mix up. Jason Fixed the problem and as of now, nothing seems to have gone wrong for him and his buyers.

Alicia, Thank you for the comment I do appreciate it. I have had very few troubles since the issue with steve. And what occurred between steve and I did not just affect me, it affected 3 other individuals as an secondary problem that developed from the animals that remained in NYC. I will not go into details as it is not the forums business unless they choose to give me their permission to disclose those details.

Now Elizabeth... I copied this from the last comment you placed about me in which Tim Adams defended me.

I have nothing to hide. I did not like the name JP Imports. Its cheap and unimaginative. I then thought of Preux Imports but figured that would get me into a legal situation with Pro Exotics because of the similarity of the names, and i don't want to ride anyone's wind. They deserve what they have earned and I respect them for that. I then thought of ICR but thats for another reason all together. Few will know the meaning of that. But then chose the name Protean for the latin root of Proteus. Protean means variable and able to accept new forms because i want to build a terrarium company. I figured it would be more fitting. So I have four DBA's relating to Protean. Its quite the useful name in that respect. I have had my short comings there as well, but I do not look away from them I am learning from them. You can continue to add to this listing, it doesn't bother me. Most of you have no experience in dealing with me or talking with me. Nor do you have any real information relating to what has occurred in my past dealings. I have many more positive sales than i do negative sales. I have my share of people who will give me references and who continue to do business with me and then I have two people who would like to see me go down in flames. That is fine. I know my shortcomings. If you want animals from me, check my references rather than this site. This will give you the information from one person's point of view rather than multiple people's. I also have people who have done me very right only for me not to be able to repay them because of the financial straight my lack of imports, sales and this very issue we are adding to right here.

My name is Jason Perillo
address 156 south meridith ave
Pasadena, CA 91106
(626) 808-8500

DBA in name of Jason Perillo
Protean Et Al.

Call and do as you would like, pass me your email addresses and I'll forward references and previous emails to you. I have nothing to hide. I am human and I fuck up. I am not afraid of it anymore and I'm certainly not afraid of jealous folks either. I know where my energy is and if its not in the positive its not taking me anywhere. So waste your breath or shut up.

Respectfully,

Jason Perillo

Well I wouldn’t exactly say the transaction went well. I didn’t receive any animals, I am still out $96, and I never received the cites paper work that I requested. In addition it was only after I contacted the better business bureau, pay pal, my credit card company, Kingsnake.com, and threaten Jason with a lawsuit that I received most of my money back.

Jason, this topic really is dead but I am curious, what “details” would you like to disclose?

Prior to telling someone what the BOI is for it would be wise to actually look up the info, as posted by the creator of the site.

This site is an opportunity for you to learn from other peoples' bad experiences and an opportunity for you to warn people of bad experiences you have had. It is also the opportunity for those people that are doing a good job in this business to get the recognition deserved, and give those people new to this business somewhere to go to, to learn who to deal with, without the risks previously attached to dealing with someone completely unknown.

This forum can also be an excellent source of feedback for a person or business to see how the public generally expects them to behave in a business sense. It can also be a valuable learning experience to see how similar problems to one you may be facing has been handled in the past.

You don't need CITES papers for species that are not listed as CITES protected. Goniurosaurus are not CITES listed.

steve, i didn't say our transaction went well. If the additional people who were affected by the guys in NYC want to come forward, they can. Its not my place to, I'm not calling people out if they don't want to be. I ended up getting fucked royal from the whole thing and it cost me an additional $1800 because of how you hit my paypal account. so yea I got the worse end of it. I was never going to screw you over. I had no intentions of it. I was in a bad spot back then with all the things I took on as far as my new businesses, and you were super excited when we spoke of what I was planning and going ahead with. If you hadn't started threatening me at just day seven to things going wrong, I wouldn't have come close to putting up a wall and being an asshole. But I am a reactionary person, when I am threatened and treated the way you had I reacted poorly. In none of our emails with your situation or my situation had I done anything before shipping the animals that shows me to be the crook you make me out to be. When your car broke down and needed to fix it, I told you to pay me when you could. When you wanted me to hold the animals for you until they were old enough to ship, all I asked for was a 50% deposit and then told you that it would be ok to pay me when they were ready to go. Make me out to be a crock but truly I was never going to screw you or do anything against you. If you had waited until I had offspring again, I would have made it more than worth your while.

And lastly, I ended up losing really fucking badly on everything after that. Shortly there after people were claiming I stole a close friend's collection when she supposedly went and got married and went on vacation. Sadly, she never got married, nor went on vacation and we had parted ways at that time because I was worried about finances from not working a regular job.

Again, I'm not perfect but you were not free from fault at how I reacted to you. I will admit I handled you wrong, but I will say you were not kosher to me during the whole thing. You can say anything about me that you want but between you and I, how terrible was I before the situation occurred? Tell me that. How terrible was I when we had our first transaction? Or when you were trying to sell some animals so you could pay me and I said, just trade me them. Again, I'll admit I handled you wrong but only after I was backed into a corner and treated like I was a thief when I was trying to do you right.

Jason, I have reread the conversations between yourself and Steve. Your recollection of these events seems to be skewed. From the emails you stated that you were not going to refund Steve for his money and your only remedy for him was offering him animals he did not want. Only after this response did Steve become adamant that he gets his rightful refund.

A real businessman does not make excuses or blame his customer at all for his mistakes. Even at this point you continue to take only some blame for how you dealt with the situation and put partial blame on your customer. When you don’t deliver a product and cannot provide adequate replacements to the customer’s satisfaction, proper business standards is to replace the money in timely manner.

Everyone makes mistakes, it how you deal with the mistake that is the problem.

I just wanted buyers of JP Imports/Protean Import’s to make an informed decision prior to purchasing an animal from Jason. While most transactions may go smoothly, if a mistake does occur, this is what they will have to go through.

Elizabeth Jencks

Jason you have already been publicly chastised for your behavior during our “transaction.” Why do you insist on bring all of this back into the spotlight? I for one am tired of wasting my time over this issue, for we have already gone through all of this…

For one LAST time lets just get a few facts straight. I never ask you to do a partial trade; you saw some chahouas I had for sale and said you wanted them. We deduced what they were worth from the price of the original orrientalis and I promptly paid the remaining dollar amount.

During our second transaction I did not ask for you to hold off on shipping the geckos. In fact, I had to wait for eggs to be laid, for them to hatch, and for the hatchlings to grow old enough to ship. I personally didn’t hold things up, unless of course you are in the business of shipping eggs or newborn hatchlings. Secondly, up to my transaction with you I never paid for an animal that wasn’t ready to be shipped! I simply do not trust a seller with my money (and for good reason). I paid you a deposit because you required me to do so in order to hold the animals while they grew old enough to ship. Once we agreed the animals were old enough I paid you the remainder of the agreed upon price. At no point in time was this transaction delayed because I couldn’t come up with the funds! (What is the point of all this anyways?)

The facts are simple. You made your first mistake when you spent all of my money prior to delivering the animals. You made your second mistake when you shipped my animals to the wrong person directly causing at least $2000 worth of animals to die. You wanted me to wait 6 months to a year for replacements, which was not acceptable. I offered to set up a payment plan so you could REFUND me over the course of a MONTH, but you said you were unable to come up with the money that “quickly.” In the end you spent all of my money and had no way to compensate me. In addition, you refused to sell any of your breeding stock to come up with the money you owed me. At this point I contacted the better business bureau, pay pal, my credit card company, posted on the BOI, contacted Kingsnake.com, and threatened you with a lawsuit. Only then did I get most of my money back.

Unfortunately Jason, you never seem to be able to fully own up to your mistakes. This is what gets you into trouble. I never said you went into our deal with the intentions of ripping me off. Nor did I claim you had crappy animals. The problem is, when something wrong happens you are not prepared for it and your gut reaction is to place blame on everyone and everything but yourself. I honestly do not think you are a bad guy Jason, I am sorry you ran into a string of bad luck, but that doesn’t give you the right to take it out on your customers.

I really hope we can consider this matter closed. I for one am past it. Good luck with your new shipment of Uroplatus, and take good care of those white-eyed fimbriatus

"warn people of bad experiences you have had."

This person did not have a business dealing with the said person. I do understand how the BOI works and normally this is not allowed. ^_-

I believe that using the BOI to inform members/readers of new identities of people with unflattering histories has been done many times in the past.

Its nothing but

a nightmare to figure out what must run through Jasons head when he offers items for sale. Take a look at his TOS

"Live arrival gauranteed only in temperatures between 40 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Live arrival voided if price is negotiated or shipped via common carrier method (fedex, UPS, USPS, DHL). All DOA's must be notified within 4 hours of arrival and photographed with a time sensitive document such as a newspaper with date clearly visible in photo. Replacements will be offered in case of DOA's when they are available. No refunds, no exceptions. In case of carrier error, not responsible but I will try to work with customer within reason."

No wonder Steve had the trouble he had.

It is unimaginable for anyone to buy anything with safety unless they fly to his home state and pick it up at Jasons home! Even if you attempt to negotiate a lower price it voids the Live Arrival. Jason makes every effort to provide a reason why NOT to buy from him. My suggestion would be Let the buyer beware once you realize what you are dealing with here.

Buy at your own risk. Very poor business TOS, and he seems to be mad the world.

Alicia, I'm not going to turn this thread into a pissing match between you and I, but your original statement was:

"The board of Inquiry is for business transactions between you and another buyer."

This is the statement you made and the one which I referred to in my reply. While that is one of the purposes of a BOI thread; it is absolutely not the only justification for a BOI thread, which is what you said in your original post when you told the poster that this thread didn't belong on the BOI and should be moved. You even expressed doubt in your post about whether or not you were correct and asked to be informed if you were incorrect. Consider yourself informed...

i'm just interested, where did you find this?

also, i'm sure that special circumstances would make parts of this void, and exceptions would be made. jason is a nice guy, i've talked to him extensively, and if you weren't a sketchy character, most likely he'd bend the TOS a bit. i always bend mine, for sure, to fit certain situations and certain people's circumstances :)

This TOS

came right out of Jasons "offering for sale on the Geckophile forum"
Look, here is the bottom line. I did not make up his TOS. It speaks for itself.

Their are so many things wrong when one has to resort to doing business this way that one really has to wonder what is going on in this mans head !

He has determined that if you negotiate a price on an item he has for sale, Live delivery is void. Is this normal !

He has determined that if an item arrives DOA assuming that you fulfill his TOS and no replacement is available, you may as well wait because no replacement will be made when available, because a replacement will EVER be available.!. Is this normal !

It has to be his airline of choice since he will not accept most of the airlines that will accept livestock,in this industry

and finally, if Jason were to send the animals by mistake to a different state by accident, (sound familiar ) his TOS would provide no replacement, no exceptions, and no refunds. This my aquaintance is abnormal. !!

The fact is, when you provide a TOS like the one he most certainly used in his advertisement, something is wrong. He apparently has been hurt from prior dealings, and he is looking to worm himself out of any obligation that may arise. This is evident. Steve was a good customer, and had Jason had any business sense, he should have kissed the ground when Steve sent him money in advance and only wanted some APPROPRIATE business dealings which turned into a nightmare. Their is no justification for this kind of stupidy.

excuse me

the statement should have read

He has determined that if an item arrives DOA assuming that you fulfill his TOS and no replacement is available, you may as well wait because no replacement will be made when available, because a replacement will NEVER be available.!. Is this normal !

Look FLOYDSMOM, I can appreciate your post about bending the TOS. You certainly do not want to loose business or repeat business, but this is not the case at all. Had Steve received the animals properly, then I can understand a meeting of the minds and doing the right thing.

Here Jason attempted to justify an unjustifiable position thinking he could get away with it. And he almost did. I recommend that people should be very careful when conducting business with those TOS. Its an unacceptable way to conduct yourself in business.

i was not implying you fabricated the TOS, i just couldn't find it to read it for myself.

thanks for all the replies on this post, it's food for thought. but i guess my experience with jason has proven to me that he's a worthwhile guy to do business with.
