In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So~ lets get this forum moving~

Successful breeders~ When you cool your BPs~ do you manipulate the ambient room temp? Or the hot spot? Or both? What is your max/min temps during cooling? Do you keep you BPs in your home or do you have a seperate facility?

I keep my BPs in my home. I only had two females that *might* be ready this season, so I was pretty mellow on the "cooling". I left the hot spots at 90F. I allowed the ambient room temps to fluctuate as they usually do in doors in Southern California. Day temps were average of 75F, night average of 68F. (Thats what I had our central heat set to) Some days were warmer. Some days reached 80-90F, but those were relatively few. (Southern California, I got a sunburn taking down my Christmas lights this year!)

I saw NO breeding behaviour AT ALL.

I'd like to do much better next year when I will 12 to 15 females large enough. So what do y'all do?

PS~ Just so you know the non-cool temps~ Summer (NOW!) I keep the central air (Ambient room temp) set to keep ambient room temps at 80F day and 90F night. (Central air is expensive, I let the family be a bit warm!)

All of my animals are kept in the house. The worst part of keeping reptiles in WI, is the humidity is almost non-existant during the winter months when the furnace is running. I have been looking for land near me in hopes of building a small shop, but that is still pretty far off.

As far as breeding season temps......
I drop the lights down to on 10 hours off 14 hours, and the temps get lowered to a 88-89 degree hot spot with the ambient temps anywhere from 75-82.

This is the 2nd year using these "triggers" and it seems to work great. I had about 12 girls ready this season and it seems that 8 will drop eggs.

Thanks for the answer Al

So~ I'm thinking I should lower the temp on the heat tape next winter, and manipulate the light more. (I have no clue how many hours of light they got).............but it sounds like my ambient temps are good. I've got the Sutherlands video, and I've read RDR's "Recipe" and while both are similiar, there are enough differences to make me worry that I will mess it up! So naturally I am obsessing over it now in April!

Do you mist to increase the humidity?

I do not mist any animals, but I do run a humidifier in my herp room all winter long.
It keeps the humidity pretty tight around 65% RH.
