In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey all,

I'm a new cornsnake owner and bought my snake from Petsmart (I had my friend who breeds ball pythons come with me so I'm pretty sure I got a good snake but will still be doig a fecal test, etc) anyways, I wanted to know if I should have cleaned the 10gal aquarium that I bought brand new to put him in. I didnt bother cleaning it before putting in the aspen, hides, and water bowl. The sales guy, who seemed to know a bit about snakes, said that it would be fine as long as I cleaned it after a feces/shed, or once a month. whichever comes first. What do you guys/gals think? Should I take the guy out, put him in a container tub and completely clean the tank/hides, etc using bleach or will it be ok?

I would never use straight bleach. I have however used a very mild bleach/water solution and sprayed it on and then rinsed thoroughly.

I personally dont know if you need to clean a brand new tank... but in about a year and a half or so... your new corn's gonna out grow that 10gal tank and you'll be looking for a 20long.

As to my cleanings... I spray down my tubs with Virosan once a month while cleaning.

I breed alot of corns...so Im courous as to what you got.... how bout posting a photo in this thread?

I usually clean with antibacterial soap once a month (bleach if they are switching cages, but you want to dilude the bleach a lot and let it dry in the sun)

A corn snake will poop about once a week almost like clockwork, andspot cleaning then is just fine, with some light soap and warm water, as well as scooping out some of the surrounding bedding that helps soak up the poops.

if your snake is SUPER tiny like most baby corns, and hes in a 10 gal with aspen or other bedding it might be almost impossible to find their tiny poops and a once a month cleaning should be just fine.

I usually clean my new vivs when i get them, because i worry about bugs dust and things they might spray around to clean with.

when cleaning your cages, you can put your baby corn in a small container while it waits, or even an extra large sock for babies. That way it will be dark still and he should feel safe!

Also, yay! i love corn snakes! Its nice to have more people with them :)

You should be alright with the tank as it is.

As for future cleanings, I would suggest using 91% (not 70%) Isopropyl Alcohol. If you get the 32 oz. bottle you can use the sprayer from any clean spray bottle (though some may need to have the draw straw cut to size). Just make sure you don't have any open cuts as it will let you know if you don't already.

I always clean my new tanks and tubs with antibacterial dish soap, rinse thoroughly and dry. I have found many intersting things in new tanks/tubs including crickets, spiders, gnats, flys, sticky stuff(eww), etc... and it can never hurt to make sure your new equipment is clean. :D
