In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello I'm Jay and new to raising bearded dragons, I just have a couple questions. If someone could please help me out that would be great.

On average, how many grams and how many inches does a healthy dragon grow on a monthly basis?

At what length or age is it recommended for a dragon to be moved on to repti-sand?

And finally, I bought a 65 gallon reptile tank thinking it would be okay to house a female and male dragon together in it, but have since been advised to keep them seperate. Can a female and male be housed together or is this a bad idea? If it is what size tank would I need for each dragon? Thank you ahead of time for answering these questions it is much appreciated.

WOW C'mon guys no help for a new herper?? I got you!!!

Hey Julio there really is not a set growth rate for dragons from my experiance anyways around 6-8 weeks they should weigh around 5 grams or so but remember I have seen clutchmates that hatched minutes away from each other and @ 3 mos I had 1 that was about 3X the size of the the rest. If you are raising hatchlings it's best to make a stand I prefer 2x3 framing boards(there cheap) just a basic framed stand I like 4' 6"W x 2' D x 6' H with 4' double floresent fixtures on each level using a 10.0 zoo med reptisun for optimal uvb intake and a 2.0 zoo med reptisun for added visual light and for heat I use 50 watt zoo med basking bulbs with 8.5" clamp lamps for each tub and use 9 sterilite 1847 bins that measure 23.18 L x 16.88 W x 12.5 H 3 levels of 3 and you should keep each tub to about 4-5 hatchling each to keep down on nips and aggresion and no hides(so they get proper lighting as they like to hide when young) just fresh water daily and i use 1 nice dissenfected rock with good height and easily shapen to climb(I do this by soaking and scrubing in a 75/25% water/bleach mix and then bake in oven for 30 min @ 350 degrees) fresh greens chopped very finely(I use a small food processer $10) should always be available but young dragons require much more protien and should be given a diet of about 75% insects and 25% greens feeding young dragons appropriatly sized(smaller than the gap between their eyes) crickets and assorted worms 3-5 times daily feeding as much as they can intake in a 5-8 minute period(some people feed for longer times 10-15 but I feed 5 x daily so I do about 5 min.(no wild cought insects ever period). feeding is opposite with adult dragons being 75% greens to 25% insects. Lots of people use paper towels but I have seen small dragons chew on the paper towels so I personaly use rolls of constuction grade paper or 3M packaging paper changing atleast once daily or as required, once again always have fresh finley chopped greens and fresh water available daily(keep your eye on the water frequintly as they sometimes like to deficate in their water dish(which should be very shallow as young dragons can drowned very easily). I personally mist my young 1-2 times daily for a few minutes as to make sure they get some hydration as dragons usually don't drink too much from standing water(this is purely preforence as some do and some don't I have had no issues at all in misting I just mist in the air above them and let it shower down lightly). As for housing males and females together this is a big no no males will be aggressive towards the female and they can overbreed causing serious health factors for the female and possibly death. I house my adults in 4'x2'x18" melemine enclosures but if you use glass tanks I recomend atleast a 75 gallon with the depth being 18" and the length being 48" .height is not as important as floor space(adults require 6-8 sq ft of floor space) some less aggressive females can be housed together as adults but it is best to house all dragons seperatly as in the wild they do not run in packs. I have rambled long enough here so I really hope this helps you as it has worked very well for me If you have any more questions or if I have been unclear on anything Please feel free to PM or e-mail me @ [email protected] and I will give you all the help I can as I would like for keepers to be doing it the best way possible to keep this industry and hobby going strong!!!

Thanks,

Jeff

Repti-sand

It is recomended by most to not use this until adult hood but I do house some juviniles around 6 mos or 14-16" on it just be sure to make sure they are not intaking large amounts or mouthfuls and if they do go back to paper towels or paper. All dragons young or old will taste new things in their enviroment so It is normal at first to see them lick the sand and taste new items IE: rocks, hides, wood etc....

Your friend,

Jeff
