How close does a ceiling mounted radiant heat panel have to be to the floor to be effective? I'm considering building some enclosures that are between 16" and 18" tall inside. That seems kind of far for the heat panel to project heat. But I don't know. I've never used them. I once tried to replace my infrared heat bulb with a ceramic heat emitter. Big fail! It got very hot, but didn't project any heat down the the basking rock, like the heat bulb does. Can't use heat tape or Under Tank heaters because the floor is solid wood or PVC. Is there a heat mat that exists that is safe to put on the bottom INSIDE the enclosure? Just wondering.
