In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Red Pastel Hypo Female..anyone heard of one?

The reason Salmon is not a co dominant mutation is because the visual het (NH) is visually indistinguishable from a homozygous (HH) animal.

Pastel Ball Pythons are a good example of a Co dominant mutation. The visual het form is a washed out brightly colored animal while the homozygous form is even more drastically washed out with even brighter coloration.

Something mentioned is why does it qualify for a dominant even though wild types are produced when (NH) x (NH) are bred. That is because regardless of the trait if the animal isn’t homozygous there will be wild trait genetics from each parent that can be paired producing a normal animal.

Here are the definitions for a dominant gene and codominant.
Dominant:
1: gene that produces the same phenotype in the organism whether or not its allele is identical; "the dominant gene for brown eyes"
2: A gene that is expressed phenotypically in heterozygous or homozygous individuals.

Codominant
Two alleles in a gene pair are each associated with different substance/appearance.
When both substances/appearances appear together in heterozygotes, codominance occurs.

I couldn't find any more thorough codominance definitions. Maybe someone else can.

Can anyone tell me why that is though? Why does it matter whether or not its visible or not. A super hypo x normal(WT) will still yeild all hypos. Same for a super motley, or a super ball, or a super tiger, etc. The only difference is that you can physically see it. What difference doe sit make?

The difference is, thats the definition of the trait. Since the visual het form and the homozygous form are both visually identical it falls under that definition. Pastel balls, motley boas, mojave balls, lesser balls etc etc all have visually different forms of visual het and homozygous so they fall under the definition of codominant.

The main problem with this is the misinformation that is rampant in the hobby, I myself thought and preached that hypos were codominant until someone pointed out the definitions and the way we as a group misuse them.

I know. Just making sure we were on the same page.

Well, I feel enlightened. I dont know about the rest of you. :D

To the original poster, I didn't see it mentioned so if it was I apologize. Could the "red pastel" portion be referring to it being from EBV red group lineage? That is a specific line of Pastel that was refined by East Bay Vivarium, such as Pastel Dream, or Keller, or Tudehope.
