In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry REPTICON Show Series Exclusive Sponsorship Agreement with FL Chams

It takes two to tango. If you have issue with Repticon, you should also have issue with those they entered into these agreements with. I agree, this is not good for the industry and I would not attend, or vend, at a Repticon show, but I also would not do business with those who entered into these agreements. Both are equally crapping on the little guy, IMO.

You know the funny thing is I used to buy 1000 to 1500 dollars worth of mice from MD before most if not all shows. I then would sell them at the shows making sure I kept within the same price range as MD itself. As soon as I heard of the exclusive I decided that if they felt the need to be greedy then they didnt need my money. Since that day have never or will never spend another dime with thier company. So repticon followed suit, damn guess they didnt need my money either. Lets be clear I was going to do 25 of there 50plus shows this year at 200.00 a show Great bus model start the 2012 year with a 5000.00 loss, brilliant.

As a vender that has put a lot of time and money into Sand Boas, about 50% of our table space is sand boas it makes no sense to vend a show where I can only display 5 KSB's. Total BS! I really do look forward to attending these shows more than anything, I love being there and the whole crew that runs and attends the show, some shows are good some not so much, but I still enjoy being a part of them. So I am really bummed about not vending but I just cant support a show that wont support it's venders. Good going Repticon and sandboamorphs.com Im extremely disappointed with you both. Not in the best interest for either one of you IMO. but hey, ya know what opinions ale like.

Personally, I don't understand the philosophy behind something like this. If when I was in business selling corn snakes, an exclusive like this had been offered to me, I would NOT have been interested. Simply because a LOT of my business came from the other vendors at the shows who were selling the same snakes that I was, but would often come to my tables to buy when they sold some of their own and had money in their pocket to spend on some new blood or new lines that I had for sale. This was a substantial amount of my business at shows. Why in the world would I want to cut that source of revenue off and get a bunch of my customers pissed at me to boot?

For anyone to cut off that source of sales at a show is being pretty darn short sighted, in my opinion. Not to mention that any other vendors at the show who were blocked from selling competing animals would quite rightly be incensed enough to NEVER buy from that company attempting to be a monopoly at the show. Heck, do you think that if I had had to leave Connie's leopard geckos at home because of a situation like this that I would have even the slightest interest of buying leopard geckos from that sole source outfit that foisted this situation upon me? Not on your life! Not to mention that I certainly would never have stepped foot in that show again.

As for walk-ins, heck, the reason the public generally goes to shows is for the exposure to a lot of vendors selling animals at competing prices and for a wide variety of offerings. Who in the heck would want to drive an hour or more to a show that only had ONE vendor selling mice, ONE vendor selling corn snakes, ONE vendor selling ball pythons, etc., etc.... ? My guess is that walk in traffic will literally DIE pretty quickly once people start thinking that they are being railroaded into who they can buy from at such shows and the selection was being controlled by a single vendor's availability at that time. Who would want that?

So personally, I just think it's a real bad idea, in my opinion, and tend to think that any show promoter who feels that they have to engage in this sort of practice is not keeping the WHOLE picture firmly in mind about why people vend and attend their shows.

Honestly, hasn't this taken place before with another show promoter a while back? I can't remember who it was, but my guess is that it was someone who is no longer promoting reptile shows. Now I wonder how that happened?

Yes it has

It was being done at Larry Kenton's shows in the mid atlantic. Anything he sold no one else could. He has since changed this but last I heard most of those shows have died down substantially. I don't know if you can attribute it to this practice or the fact that there is a show within 2 hours drive about every 2 weeks that he puts on. Both might be something that Repticon might want to consider?

I put on several shows here in the Midwest. Every month I get someone calling wanting to reserve tables, and then asking for an exclusive. They want to be the only "rodent" vendor, or the only "dry goods" vendor, or the only "cricket" vendor. I tell them, that, since the shows have been going on for quite awhile, I already have vendors selling those items. But if they care to vend, that's fine. But they will have to try and gain market shares or grow their own market. Which is extremely hard thing to do, when you compete against someone else doing the exact same thing.
But, I have to say this, I've been to shows where there are exlcusives. And those vendors have it made. They can sit prices and no one to compete against them. And I've seen it back fire as well. At one Indy show, the live rodent vendor did not make it to the show, and quite a few paying "customers" were upset. they were there to buy rodents. Several demanded their money back. In kentucky, same thing happen. Rodent vendor couldn't make it to the show. Now at that show, anyone is allowed to sell rodents. Still excluvise in Indy.
I don't do exclusives.... for that very reason.....personally I don't see it being good business. REPTICON owns the show... they can do what they want.
But from the feed back here, I don't think it was a wise desision on their part.

Well, apparently something's changed in the past few days, as this is now what's on the Repticon website:

Sand Boas: For shows that Repticon Sponsor SandBoaMorphs.com participates in, no other vendor may display their Sand Boas in deli-cups. Any number of sand boas may be displayed by other vendors in acrylic displays, "critter keepers", etc.

Here- http://www.repticon.com/rules.html

Can anyone explain what the purpose/rationale is in forbidding deli cups? I don't get it? :shrug01:

Also- here's a post on SandBoaMorph's FB timeline about the issue, too...

SandBoaMorphs.jpg

So, what's up?

I don't know what the stated intent of restricting deli cups is, but it is a way to keep the displayed animals to a minimum. You can display dozens of animals in deli cups, even without stacking them, in the space for KK the size to display a sandboa (depending on age). Similarly, the acrylic display boxes also take up a lot of space, and are expensive.

It's also a psychological trick. Deli cups are the professional standard, and anyone who sees a well-organized table with deli cups will wonder about the person selling in KKs. They might wonder if they have to buy the KK and may not want it. They may not know without asking that the animal can be swapped out of the KK and into a deli cup after the sale. This doesn't apply for the acrylic tanks, which look very nice, but not everyone has those.

Repticon lost my business (both as a vendor and visitor) when they decided to move the Little Rock AR show over to Southhaven MS. Me and another breeder had 4 tables reserved and they didn't even bother to notify us of the change.

Well, ok. Trying to appease people. Frankly, still not ok in my book. It's still limiting what other people can bring. There is only so much room on a table for display cases or kritter keepers or whatever else people are supposed to use now. It's not much of an improvement as far as I'm concerned, more of a "Oh crap, people got mad" panic response.

That is exactly what it is... a panic response. They got themselves between a rock and a hardplace and they haven't figured a way to get out.

They offered these exclusive deals to breeders and now they see the public uproar about it.

Spyral good point. Easy fix tho. Post a sign stating the following: Animals in critter keepers for display purposes only due to Sandboamorphs having an exclusive deal with Repticon. All animals will be placed in deli cups after purchase.

I always viewed reptile shows as a place where the "average hobbyist" could buy, sell, and trade animals that are their passion. I'm sorry, but I can't support any reptile shows that act like a crooked wall street banking business. If i was a vendor I'd be pissed. If I was a paying customer I would be extremely pissed. No more Repticons for me.

I do not like on shows.. Small show I do understand why some have with feeders..I do not think the public should be allowed to bring in their critters for trade or sell. If they are going to sell then they should have to pay for a table. I understand trying to sell to a vendor but this should be prearranged before the show.
I feel if someone is Sponsoring the show they should get their name on all advertising but NO EXCLUSIVES.....
I feel sorry for promoters of shows ......They have to please everyone and that is VERY HARD TO DO..

this is supposed to read I do not like exclusives on shows.......
Sorry to early in morning

Good reason for me to never go to a Repticon show. Also a good reason to tell everyone why I will not go and how they will suffer as a buyer. Competition is good for consumers. Plain and simple.

This is also true of sand boas & frozen mice at a Repticon show! i think its a bad idea to have exclusives at a reptile show because it limits the choice a customer has when looking for a paticular animal plus it also puts a monopaly on that product. the Carolina Reptile Show is March 24 in Greenville, SC. Be happy to have u as a vendor! Tables are only $50.00
