Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

REPTICON / Super Pet Expo (NOT GOOD)

I went to a Repticon event last year in Orlando. I was actually pretty decent, there were several breeders there, and a pretty good variety of animals. It seamed like reptiles only but I do remember one of the boa breeder's wife had a bunch of cute, fuzzy, little bunnys she breeds. But as the best of my memory serves that was the only non reptile related animals/shwag there except for only guy that had some Biker stuff. I believe Lucky Lure was there vending insects and there were several other cricket food vendors there ,as well as a cage builder and other supply vendors. I would say I was satisfied with that show in particular and would probably go this year if i have some spare funds.

However it does sound like this show in NJ was a dud and everyone that went should be entitled to a refund.

Hello, this is Billy From Repticon. For anyone looking for our perspective, here it is from the source. To start off, I'd like to make a few things clear:

1) For anyone who was unhappy with the reptile presence at the Super Pet Expo, I can certainly understand why that would be the case, and I extend my deepest apologies. There were many, many things that went wrong with this particular show. Since we began promoting shows five years ago, we've promoted over 50 shows across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Some of them have been great, some of them have not. This one was not.

2) There were a few reasons why our area within the Super Pet Expo was not what we originally planned, including shipments that did not arrive, vendors who were forced to remove animals from their tables due to permit issues, and yes, local vendors who just plain did not show up. I personally made my best effort to explain this to anyone who approached me at the show, but please understand that over 16,000 guests moved though this show in one day alone. We had well over 100 guests for many of our presentations in a small 20x20 area that was constantly spilling out into the aisles of the show, and we were responsible for presentations on the hour. I had a staff of 3 including myself at the show, so my ability to have lengthy conversations with anyone who felt like chatting, positive or negative, was very limited.

3) This show was primarily a pet show operated by Super Pet Expo. The overall show was massive in scope, completely filling the convention center. This was not our show to operate, and we had no control of signs outside of the ticket area, and received no revenue from the gate. Rest assured that it cost us a great deal more to be at this show than it did any guest. That being said, the promoter of the overall show is a very classy individual and EVERY GUEST THAT ASKED FOR A REFUND DUE TO THE LACK OF REPTILES WAS OFFERED A FULL REFUND. For those of you who have personally e-mailed me, if you did not receive a refund, I'll paypal you one (just don't expect it tonight - I'm going to bed after I post this.) For obvious reasons, I'll only extend that courtesy to those who have contacted me prior to this post, unless you can verify your attendance at the Super Pet Expo.

I don't know how to state it any more simply than that. I will not be drawn into a "he said she said" conversation about every detail of what went wrong, I will not drag any vendor's name through the mud, and I will not spend the next two weeks responding to every post of every person who feels that the best use of their time is to spend hours parsing up what I'm posting. If that makes you feel better, by all means post-away.

For those of you who attended the show expecting something more closely resembling what our name has come to represent in the Southeast, I extend my most sincere apology, and I will do what I can to compensate you for failing to meet your expectations. If you're looking for an apology, you have it. If you're looking for your money back, you've either gotten or you will. If you're looking for someone to blame and be angry with, that person can be me.

Beyond that, it's time for our team to check our losses, learn what we can from the mistakes that we've made (and we've made plenty in five years of promoting shows), and focus our energy on the rest of our 2007 Calendar.

If you're curious about what REPTICON looks like, not the Repticon area at the Super Pet Expo, we'll see you in Orlando.

Thank you for your time and your feedback.

Hard to ask for any more than that... :shrug01:

Nice job...

See you in Orlando!!

Billy, I'm not going to ask for a refund as I didn't e-mail you prior to your post; even though I am quite sure I could describe our brief conversation and the area surrounding your repticon set-up in enough detail to convince you that I was there and did speak to you.

I appreciate that you took the time to at least explain in detail about the show, hopefully in the future your other shows will go better.

I will take you up on your offer to visit the Orlando show, just PM me and I will give you the address to send me a plane ticket and give you my requirements for lodging, I prefer a suite. ;)

Oh please. I've attended several Repticon shows in Tallahassee, FL and they were a complete joke---every time. I have no idea why I even bothered going again after the first one---but they progessively got much worse.

The last show I went to before moving was simply abysmal. I talked to several people after who went to the show and they expressed the same opinion. This 'show' had maybe 10 vendors--and that might even be generous. Not worth your money, folks.

I Would Not Believe A Thing Repticon Sais

I really never thought I would post about my bad experiance with Repticon but even to this day it still bothers me. About three years ago Repticon had a show in Orlando and I think it might of been the first one that they had there. It was not very big at all. But that isn't even the issue that my family had with them. Repticon has these games that the kinds can play and they can win prizes. Well my boy Joey won a game and he won the Grand Prize. The prize that he chose was a year subscription to Reptiles Magazine. So his mother filled out the form for them with our address and all of the other information. Joey was very excited that he was going to be getting his own magazine. At that time Joey was 7 years old. I have been getting Reptile Magazine for years so Joey was very familiar with it. Well time went on and NO magazine. We emailed them several times wanting to know where it was. I can't remember if they even emailed us back. They also set up a table at the other Reptile shows in the state of Florida to promote thier shows. So we would ask at the next show that they were set up at what was going on and why Joey was not getting his magazine. They said they were working on it. We even gave them all of our information all over again while at the next show that they were set up at promoting thier show. (It was either the Fire show in Orlando or the big show in Tampa) We saw them again at another show where they were set up and we would ask. They would say, we will look into it, or you should of had that by now. Just blowing smoke. So NO magazine again. EVERY DAY FOR MONTHS JOEY WOULD ASK WHERE HIS MAGAZINE WAS. WE HAD TO JUST KEEP TELLING HIM THAT IT WILL BE HERE. He would see me get mine in the mail and it really botherd him that he was not getting his. JOEY WAS 7 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. IF THESE PEOPLE CAN LIE TO A 7 YEAR OLD BOY THEN I WOULD THINK THEY COULD LIE TO ANYONE. When I tell people about this they can't believe that someone could be so low. The thing Repticon doesn't get is that we go to all the shows throughout Florida and that has been the only Repticon show that we have ever gone to. The addmission fees that they have lost just from my family would have paid for that magazine over and over. I would have continued to go to thier shows even though they aren't very big because I like to see the people that are there. I have made alot of friends over the years and the only time that I get to see alot of them is at the shows. At the time all of this happened I didn't know about this web site or I would have posted it then. So if you as an adult think that you were taken for a ride, how do you think a 7 year old boy feels after all that he went through? Answer that. How do you think his mom and I felt every day when he would ask where his magazine was? So, does anyone think that I believe anything that Repticon would say? So seeing how this thread was started, how about some people letting them know what you think about this. I don't know about any of you but I have no idea how anyone could do that to a 7 year old boy.

Thank you for listening

Brian Dierking

I wish I would have seen this post before I went on Sunday the 11th and totally wasted my time and money also!

2 Albino boas and some Sugar Gliders (that weren't even for sale) - I did however see BUSINESS cards for a Beardie Breeder though.
Woah look out, that's really a great show...Nice work guys!

Next time you can have the reptile show at my house...It'll be 6x as large as the one in Edison! Here's the added bonus - you wouldn't have to navigate the floor like it was a WWII mine field from all of the dog's s**t.

How are people supposed to verify attendance to Super Pet Expo? It was paid in cash, there were no receipts, and someone took your entire ticket upon entrance?

So I guess the rest of us are screwed.

I'll stick to White Plains and Hamburg from now on...

Repticon And Billy Healy

Here are a few things everyone should be aware of. These are all shows that I have vended at.
Keep in mind that Repticon fails all over the country not just the south. They are fly-by-nighters trying to make a quick buck. Their venues are not advertised and placed in the cheapest buildings available. They do not care how vendors fair. They only want our money.
1 Ft. Myers FL - 20 people in the door in 2 days. There was a dog show next door and everyone who came in had a dog at hand or on a leash. It was vendors selling to vendors.
2 Columbus GA show - 20 people walked Through the door. It was horrible. i didn't lose money because I live in Columbus.
3 Savannah GA show - Saturday - 30 people. Sunday - 7 people. It is my fault for even going to the show. On sunday all of the vendors got drunk and bet each other to do cartwheels in the vacant isles of the show for money.
4 Atlanta GA - I told one of them how bad I have done at there shows while vending at the GA Herp Society's show, which is great, and they said that I could have free tables and I should go. So I went. Let me say this first. Any idiot can say REPTILE SHOW AND KIDDY PARK and get 3000 people through the door. But its not the people who buy reptiles. Its 30 year old moms with 4 kids who see this as an amusement park and a petting zoo. People came through the door but only to see the pigs, llamas, sheep, and camels. Not to purchase reptiles. Some people didn't even know that the animals we had on our tables were for sale!!!! They had me in the very back of the building facing empty tables from an absent vendor tables facing and adjacent empty wall. People didn't even know tables were back there. After day one and 300 dollars of sales, which is the worst I have ever done, they come and collect table money. I told them that i was awarded free tables and they insisted that I had to pay. I said to them I haven't made enough money for me to warrant to pay them and they should let me have these tables for free to help me out with the ass load of money I have lost going to there other crappy venues. A bunch of words were spoken and it was best for me to leave. Billy was in the background calling me an asshole as I packed up my things. :hot: I PROMISE HE WILL NOT SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT OUTSIDE OF HIS VENUE :hot: . He then told me I was not allowed to come to anymore of his venues.  THANK GOD. I finally wont make that mistake again.

Bottom line is don't go to their shows Matt White. I kick myself for doing this and it was stupid on my part. I know I should have been the better man and paid but it was just principle. I know me not paying for the tables makes me look bad and I feel like shit for not doing so.

GILAPRODUCTIONS with Brett and ALEX RULE. That is a good venue. Go to that one.

AVOID and mean REPTICON.
I hope this will add a little rust on their already tarnished name.

I personally would not go to the Orlando Repticon Show. If you want details from last year I can post them. To sum it up it was a waste of money and time.

Matt you crossed the line.....

Where doI (Cathy) start with you? I tell you what I will start with the ONLY Show that Myself and Danny are involved in that you LIED about!
Matt says "4 Atlanta GA - I told one of them how bad I have done at there shows while vending at the GA Herp Society's show, which is great, and they said that I could have free tables and I should go. So I went."

MY response to this part: YOU ARE A TWO FACE LIAR!!! I was the one you talked to about the Atlanta show. I NEVER NEVER TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULD HAVE ALL OF YOUR TABLES FOR FEE! I told you that if you purchased one table you would receive another table for free! Thats ALL! You never said anything about wanting them all for free, if you had I would have sent you to Billy, AS I TOLD YOU THAT WHEN YOU FLAT OUT REFUSED TO PAY YOUR $95 dollars. Dude the funny part of all this crap that you typed is out of all the vendors that we had there you and the two that did not show and the lady that was escorted out by DNR are the ONLY ones that were not happy with the show. And by the way how can you only bring what 3 or 4 different type of animals and complain about how much you made before 3 that after noon? Your cost for that show was ONLY $95 including a meal on SAT.

Matt says" Any idiot can say REPTILE SHOW AND KIDDY PARK and get 3000 people through the door. But its not the people who buy reptiles. Its 30 year old moms with 4 kids who see this as an amusement park and a petting zoo. People came through the door but only to see the pigs, llamas, sheep, and camels. Not to purchase reptiles."

My response:
Matt if you believed statement, then why did you even bother booking tables?

Matt says"Some people didn't even know that the animals we had on our tables were for sale!!!!"

My response: You were never at your TABLES to sell your stuff!

Matt says"They had me in the very back of the building facing empty tables from an absent vendor tables facing and adjacent empty wall. People didn't even know tables were back there."

My response:Dude you know thats a lie, who was facing you...wait it will come to me....yeah I got it...JEFF MOHR AND LIVING EARTH REPTILES.
to the right of you wasa vendor who did not show and on the other side was Hunter. Oh and on the other side was the Lady that left because of permit issues and beside her was G & G! The empty 4 tables you are speaking of was the other vendor that did not show. Need more refreshing Matt?

Now if anyone would like to know how the Atlanta show went contact a few or all the vendors and ask them!
or just check out the post here on Fauna http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91401

And trust me Matt ,Billy went easy on you!

To all you that are reading this I apologize for it being so long and for being upset with Matt, but I thought the Truth should be aired!
Sincerely,
Cathy Elrod

yeah, I went to the show on Sunday in Edison, NJ and there was 1 ball python and that's all... it was kind of boring.

Maybe, maybe not

I wasn't initially going to post to this thread, but there have been some blaring inaccuracies that I felt should receive a comment.

First of all, I want to mention that Repticon has done well over 50 shows in 5 different states since the company began in 2003. Have some shows done better than others? Absolutely. Have there been shows that we wish would have had more traffic or more vendors? Absolutely.

But at the end of the day, Repticon is trying to do something different than other shows are. Repticons are local shows aimed at connecting local breeders/dealers with local consumers. The goal is a family friendly atmosphere where parents and other adult reptile enthusiasts can find a variety of animals and supplies, but where children are also welcome. That is why Repticon provides games, puppet shows as well as a diverse group of speakers.

You can never please anyone, but I hope I can speak for all members of the Repticon team in saying that we welcome feedback, either negative or positive and we will do everything in our power to ensure that both vendors and guests have an enjoyable experience.

Now there are just a few statements made earlier in this thread that I would like correct.

1. There have not been "several" Repticon shows in Tallahaassee. There have been 3. Each one has had more vendors and more guests than the previous time. The shows are growing, but that does not happen overnight in a new market.

Matt, these are mostly aimed at your post:

2. There has never been a 2 day Repticon in Ft Myers

3. There has never been a 2 day Repticon in Savannah

4. You have never vended at a Repticon in Ft. Myers or Savannah. You have done 3 Repticon shows: the first Columbus show, an Orlando show in 2006 and this past Atlanta show which you were asked to leave after the inappropriate way in which you treated a member of the Repticon staff.

5. 20-30 people through the door? Please. Even the slowest shows when the company was first starting brought in at least 300-400. There are many cities in which shows consistently bring in over 1000 for a one day and between 2000-3000 for a two day.

6. Theresa, The Orlando show is shaping up wonderfully, while the show will still be held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds, we will be moving to a larger building and will have more vendors and much more advertising than ever before. We are quite excited!

Cathy has already posted links of some discussions about Repticon shows in this thread and if you search repticon on certain "not to be named" competitor sites, you will find many more. Many people leave pleased, and some don't. As long as most guests enjoyed themselves and most vendors are satisfied, we consider the show a success.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and keep the feedback coming!

1. There have not been "several" Repticon shows in Tallahaassee. There have been 3. HUH?

I dont care what any of you guys say. You are all the same to me. If I ran shows and some of my venders did terribly I would feel horrible. You guys dont seem to mind if we dont do well. Thanks fine. Keep on running petting zoos and charging too much for tables. Eventually venders will stop signing up. Its funny to me how you can give 10 different rates to 10 venders. Hell, it was like some were paying nothing for tables and others, me, had to pay the full price.
Go away and I will also.

Matt you are a funny guy! Did you even read what you posted?

Did I read the bold words right everyone?

and Matt as far as this statement goes
Go away and I will also
it is not going to happen!

Sounds a lot like the New Jersey show.

And the New Jersey show sounds a lot like fraud or at the very least deceptive advertising.
