In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Richard Gary Williams (roach 75) Mites Come Free!!!

I'm new to this hobby so I don't have the luxury of knowing who to trust. I do my best to find reviews before I buy but they aren't always available. And you are right I am very bitter, I'm not use to being taken advantage of and it doesn't feel good. It's very hard to let go when the wound still feels very fresh. I use to own a licensed dog breeding kennel and I ran into very little problems with buying or selling, it was wonderful. I realize there are good and bad in every hobby but so far it seem to me like reptiles draw a large number of liars, cheats and thieves. Maybe I've just had extra bad luck. :shrug01:

Good observation. :yesnod: this may be because the reptile trade is largely unregulated. You don't come off as an "impossible to please buyer" to me. But, I seem to be in the minority.

Just a word to the wise... A lot of us have undergone similar or worse experiences and since some of those speaking up to advise you to let it go are actually people above reproach (I am no referring to the seller's cheerleading squad), I would heed the advice.

In my opinion, you are not actually "letting go," it's more that you are stepping away to see if he's actually turned over a new leaf or not. We won't know till he cons someone else, and he won't do that while this thread lives (unless he's a complete fool).

So you are stepping away to give him a chance to either dig this "hole" deeper or learn from the lesson you taught him.;)

Maybe someone should start a 'You Might Be Getting ready To Be Ripped-off' thread in the style of Jeff Foxworthy's 'You Might Be a Redneck'?

Here's a starter:

If you are excited because you just bought an animal on the internet for 1/4 of the going price for this particular species/color variation, you might be getting ready to be ripped-off.

If your present 'collection' resides in the freezer and you just ordered a replacement from your 'main source' for the last snake that died at a three-for-one special discount, you might be getting ready to be ripped off.

If a dealer/breeder/flipper contacts you because one of his friends told him to call you, you might be getting ready to be ripped off.

Here's one for the sellers out there:
If your new customer asks you for a corn snake because they live an 'alternative life-style' and want a vegetarian snake, you might be getting ready to be ripped off.

Yikes! I hope he mans up and fixes this. That is an insane amount of mites!

Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade is safe. Consists only of the fossils, all natural. Even used for internal parasites for animals and people, as well as external. There is a Diatomaceous Earth that has pesticides added though, which you do want to avoid.

I think what he's trying to get at is avoiding the diatomaceous earth getting inhaled by the snakes...... it can cause silicosis.... which can start a plethera of new problems........

Thanks for trying to help but if I ever get mites again I will only use Provent a Mite and Ivomec. Oh and the isomers are different in Rid bedding spray than Provent a Mite.

Nixx has the same active ingredient as PAM though, permethrin.... so if you're ever in a situation where you cant get a hold of some PAM right away... you can go to the local pharmacy and get nixx.... I actually dip every boa that I bring in in Nixx........... I use Black Night for spraying baseboards etc also.... and luckily I havent had a single mite in about 9 years

PS: be really precise with your Ivermectin dosage... the therapeutic index isnt very forgiving with this drug.... I have always used panacur on smaller stuff because of this.......

Robert,
You are seriously considering buying females from him to put with your healty males? That has bad ending ALL over it (and probably some mites too)

:iagree::iagree: I know of breeders that have been in the business for years and not had a mite problem in their collection. They might have gotten mites from a purchase but their quarantine processes are so good that the mites have never entered their collections (how do I know..I've never received mites from them).

Anyone that is selling or has sold a mite infested snake is showing that their quarantine procedures are practically nil. If the collection managed to get mites, that's enough of a warning for me.:ack2:

Yes I am. I dont believe a person should be condemned for a mistake if they made right by it, and have had good transactions since then. Ive had mites in my collection once or twice and shame on me if i didnt have the equipment to handle it. With dealing with reptiles and their breeders, especially anyone who deals with wc imports, people should be ready for parasites. It shouldnt happen, but it does, so we must be ready for it. Ive only made it to page three of this thread as im trying to read in between my tasks at work, just wanted to see if i could get an answer sooner. Anyone who has had a transaction with him since this can contact me here or on my email [email protected] . Please provide shipping info and emails with headers so i can be sure that there was an actual transaction. All constructive information is appreciated.

I got a super pastel fader, 2, female calicos,an adult female yb,and a large female super pastel from Rich and everything went smooth and had no mites ......he seem like a stand up guy!

And this was all after the BOI post ........ I would do business with him again!

Wooooooow. This is ridiculous, how immature.

1. I can confirm that Tim and Richard are two different people, with very different accents.

2. Its never fun to recieve mites, but Christina has blown this well out of proportion like shes the only person ths ever happened to, and it had to be intentional cuz it hapened to her. ( im pretty confident that this wasnt intentional because u probably wouldnt have gotten crap if it was.) And u have no proof otherwise, btw, this is ur assumed accusation

3. Speaking of proof, did u take these animals to vet? If all i saw were pictures of bags with black dots i woulda been suspicious. Youve provided no proof that his animals indeed were in those bags. You said the water were ful of mites. Anyone trying as hard as u to warn us, would usually take those pics to back up your statement. Plus u speak of all these things he promised u but havent posted any emails prior to u recieving the snakes. And if u did i must have missed it between all the off topic posting. Oh and speaking of that, after Clay warns u of the offtopic posting, u call him a liar and theif and then a few posts later you say he has communication problems, and if u knew that this thread wouldnt exsist. Bi-polar much?

4. Gravid females have tendency to go off feed when gravid. U knew they were possibly gravid and therefore may not feed right away, but u decided to throw that into the mix to kick him while hes down.
Seems like a dirty tactic to get the sympathy of others.

5. Richard handled this professionally and to the best of his abilities, even tho i agree that his communication and timely shipping needs major improvement. He bent over backwards to assure he made things right. And just because he gets paid on the first doesnt mean he has the ability to get his check straight to the bank and reimburse u the same day. Yet u jump the gun and raise hell, only to have ur refund sent on the second. Yea it didnt clear, but most banks take a few days to clear any deposited funds, and u took no time to consider that. Im still unsure whether i wanna do business with Richard, but imm 100% that i wont be selling u any snake.

Hopefully ull grow up and realize that while there are people in this industry out to get u, Richard clearly showed he isnt one of them. And shame on he rest of you for hopping on her band wagon with little to no proof to support her accusations.

Sorry if my responses seem a lil choppy and not fluent, i keep having to walk away and then come back and try to remember what i wante to say.

On another note its not that hard to treat for mites, it took me a whole 30 mins to take care of one snake. If she had to treat her entire collection because of this, shame on her for not educating herself on PROPER quarintine techniques.

am i missing something here ??!! it is never, ever ok to receive an animal with any health problems (especially something like mites, that has no way of getting while being shipped)
i can potentially understand slight upper respiratory infections due to cooler weather during shipping (even that is a stretch for me, though), but mites, is unacceptable at any time to be shipped with any animal

Nothing is acceptable about mites, but based how the two parties handled it, i side with Richard on this. He didnt even ty to dispute it, and oromptly made a more than sufficient offer to compensate. He just had some issues keeping inhis time frame. But u guys treat him like the ppl who argue and deny everything and u have to fight them to get any sort of compensation. I feel this ganging up on him is unecessary especially since he was quick to make an offer of comp.

Btw id rather spend 30 bucks on mite treatment, than 100+ on ri meds and still have to jab needles into a pissed off sick snake. Jmo tho.

well the difference in treating each problem is neither here nor there. true good knowledgable herp vets dont prescribe injectible antibiotics. it is very simple (and cheap) to give oral medications to snakes. also, many respiratory infections (assuming they are failry minor and caught relatively early), are easily treatable with adjusting the snakes microenvironment. mites, you have to treat medically and/or topically, bare minimum.

although mites "do happen" it should never ever be from a quality breeder/seller. i have had mites twice in all my years with snakes. one with a very bad off rescue (i do rescue on the side, they have a separate facilty from my collection) and once when i was using substrate.

if mites are ever a part of the deal (either knowingly or unknowingly), it should be rectified immediately by the seller and agreed upon as reasonably acceptable by the buyer

So why is richard such a horrible monster as this thread makes him out to be? As soon as he was contacted he made the offer to rectify, and had communication issues. He did call her on the second but she chose not to answer and from what i read she made no effort to contact him and notify him of her communication preferences. So if no one gets in contact with me if i tried to rectify a similar situation i would assume that theyd rather not deal with me and cut their losses. I feel she didnt give him enough time to respond a few times, and a few othwr times he shoulda been more vigilant with his side of communication. But i see no need to continuely beat him into the dirt like hes a horrible person like others ive seen. I would drop names for comparison, but im sure thats walking the line based on boi rules.

She posted a few pages back that she has recieved comp thru paypal, and denied a replacement animal on top of that.
