In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Roaches we need no stinking Roaches!

I LOVE animals. I always provide the best I can..and everyone seems to agree that ROACHES are best for Dragons...

My cultural beliefs will not let me willingly bring LIVE ROACHES into the house. It was bad enough that I had to bring in mealies and crickets for Duchess (Leopard Gecko) and I am trying to sell HER so that I don't have to deal with bugs anymore. I can't bring myself to deal with ROACHES.:ack2:

Ah c'mon, there's crickets and a plethora of worms out there. It doesn't have to be roaches. :)

I really am Tired of the cricket thing too!
It is averaging me around 10.00 a week in crickets!
I would maybe lean towards a non breeding roach if 1 or 2 escaped that was kinda Interesting? (Any more info on those type of roaches would be Wonderful.
I am interested in the Dubias?

How many dragons are you feeding? I order mine by the bulk... WAY cheaper than running to the pet store every other day.

Go to coldbloods.com and try Courtland. His service and bugs are the best. $10 a week, lol, I wish. You should feel lucky thats all you're spending.

Shawn, hit up Jason, theroachguy.com he has been great. I have also heard good things about Ian at theroachranch.com but have not personally ordered from him.

Do some reading on Dubias. One tub is all it takes and probably a $50 investment or so and you could have enough roaches in no time to support a dragon or two. I was seriously afraid of them, , but now they are actually pretty cool. No escapes as they can't fly, can't climb smooth surfaces, and need a tropical type climate to breed. I have a small piece of flexwatt under my tubs to heat them. Also feeding them is easy. No real cleaning involved(maybe every few months). What more could you ask for?

I feed a colony of 17 dragons so I bought my first dubias about 6 months ago with a lot of worry about them getting out and me handling them. I bought them and after dealing with them for a month I was over my phobia of roachs. Now I have a huge colony of dubias and a huge colony of hissers.
I really like the hissers as they produce pretty fast and grow very fast. My dragons love both. I have one, Marius will not touch a dubia but will tear up a hisser. After you get use to them they are not bad to deal with at all.
David :)

TINMAAAAAN!

Before I started getting a breeder's discount, I use to get 1000 crix for $20 from Top Hat Crickets. I think it's free shipping if you're within the surrounding states from them.

made the plung

I did it. I just ordered my first set of roaches from the roach guy. my wife is gonna have a coronary. LOL i can't wait!! Theres this sick fascination/ fear goin on in my head right now. my boys are gonna love it, they are 9 and 8. daughter(5) not so sure, and the little 2 year old well he pretty much screams and points at anything i have goin on so he'll dig it too i bet....my poor wife lol

They aren`t so bad once you get used to them. I have Dubia and Discoids. they are almost the same but Discoids are faster and harder to catch in the tub, But the Discoids breed twice as fast as the dubia. I was gonna get hissers but the done have live birth so I chose not to get them. My dragons love them and the vet said one adult Dubia or Discoid equals 10-20 crickets. I have 11 dragons only 10 get roaches my silkback is to small so she gets stinky crickets and silk worms. Alot of people keep the roaches in the garage with heat and a bottle of water with holes for the humidity. they need to be warm even at night and have humidity. I use the cricket water crtstals to make sure they have water also you need a coffee grinder or blender to blend cat food turn it almost to a powder it works awsome and the roaches cant eat plan cat food it has to be put in the blender. Also a few times a week I spay the sides of the tub with water because when the babies are born they need to be able to find the water. I also give the roaches fruit and greens. Thats about all I know about the roaches and mine are breeding and having babies so it works for me.

My roach colony is actually dwindling. I used to have one decent colony a year or so ago, but I got my HUGE colony back in November 09. I got like 300 adult females, 100 adult males, and around 1000 large nymphs, and countless newborn nymphs. The roach colony grows, every couple days I will have a couple hundred new babies, but I feed them as fast as they reproduce. My adults are maybe at 100 now, with no large nymphs and all my newborn nymphs are fed off to my dragons every day or two.

I'm considering just switching to crickets and worms. For some reason, crickets have always been easier to take care of, at least to me.

And one question - Why don't some people use crickets with their adults? Is there some risk involved?

I in about the same boat and am about to bite the bullet. I have 2 kids my daughter (3) loves all the different crickets, silk worms, super worms, phoenix worms... same with my son (2). My question is do the roaches like the excess greenz stuff from the salads we make kind of like the crickets do. Also thanks for the Reptile food (dot) com ref those are the chepest crickets I have found yet I was paying around $15 for 1000 now 10.50 that is just great thanks guys/gals.

I actually prefer roaches to meallies and cricket since they reproduce so fast and cant breeding in ure home without heat , so i started with 25 and now have 100+ and feed 6 leos . hoping to grow even more.

Seriously there are many creepy crawly crittery things I will and have let into my home but I just can't do it. I've read this thread 4 or 5 times trying to convince myself but I barely handle mealies and super worms. I am such a girl!!!
