The other thing that sort of bothered me is the fact that she bought a defective critter and apparently did not even take it out of its deli cup to check it all out.
If I was buying a defective critter I'd look at it real close. But that's just me.
Keep in mind that if she is fairly new to keeping and has never bred before, it's entirely possible that she simply didn't know what to look for. When I first started out, I would never have been able to tell a fat gecko from a gravid one. If anything, I would think that her being gravid would have made the gecko look to be healthier than she was simply because she would not have looked so thin. Being told by a vendor that has said she's been in the hobby a long time that the only issue with the gecko is a "defective tail" it would be very easy to be misled. I have no doubt that the OP will be much more careful in future purchases.
