    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi all-- I'm wondering if anyone has had any dealings with this Texas pet store. They have a snake listed on kingsnake that I'm really interested in...but I'm nervous about buying from a petstore. Thoughts?

I haven't made a purchase from them yet, so I can't say how they handle their business transactions. But I stopped by their physical facility when I was visiting my folks over the holidays to check them out. I'd seen their ads all over kingsnake, but like you was kind of wary of buying sight unseen from a store.

While I disagree with a few of their stock choices (like a ring-tailed lemur -- I personally am against primates in the general pet trade), I was actually quite impressed with the store.

The animals looked healthy, were appropriately housed, cleaned, and cared for, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

I absolutely would have bought the gargoyle gecko they had there, if it had been big enough to sex. And having seen their facility, if they have anything I'm interested in sometime in the future, I'd feel confident in ordering from them.
 
Thanks! That makes me feel better. I actually called them a few weeks ago trying to get info on this snake and got the run around (her age and weight changed drastically from person to person) so I gave up and decided to find another snake. But she got relisted recently and I decided to try again, thinking maybe the people I spoke to either confused which snake I was asking about or didn't know what they were talking about. Just spoke to a very helpful young guy over there who was very informative and even sent me pictures of him handling the snake in question. She's not quite as old as we hoped...but she sure is pretty.

Still considering purchasing her so would love feedback from anyone who has dealt with them.
 
Thank you for making this post since they had a snake I am also potentially interested in but like you I am a little wary as well.

How about some details??

I looked at a couple of their ads a year or so ago - saw a couple things that appeared to be mislabeled. Other than being careful based on that, I have no input.

I ordered a Female hondran milk from them and they said it was a confermed female , and that there vet sexed it and it was female . Once it arived i let it settle in for a couple hours and then i Probed it and it came up inbetween male and female , so i popped it and sure enought it was a male to purple hemipenes poped out . I called them and said that it was male and the guy said well you can ship it back at your exspence but its a female. I said no it not , a half hour when by and they called me. The guy started arguing to me that it was a female and than i dont know how to sex them right , I have been doing this for 20 Years. After the call , i called some friends and asked them about houndrans and i discribed everything to them , i then took it over to my friends place and we probed it again and he popped it. It came up male again. Once i got back home They had called me again while i was out left a message saying it was a female and they would have there vet call me.
They never called.

SO i was with another male that i payed way to much for.

I'm shaking my head...you just can't see me. I'll never understand people. Would it kill them to be honest? Sigh.
 
I live not far from S&S and we frequent it when the kids want to go and look at some wild animals. They have a wide variety of exotics and honestly I've read the post here and I can't say anything about there online sales and services the place is not bad at all. Always fairly clean. Some of the people are helpful where some are down right on a high horse.
I have friends that have bought plenty of animals from them and never had a problem. I've never seen dead animals, or nasty cages, There prices are really high for some of there stuff but all in all I would buy from them, But I live here and that may be the difference.
 
Yeah...in reading posts from other threads it seems that people who live nearby and have been to the store in person are divided into two groups: those who say it is filthy and the animals are ill kept, and those who say it's a pretty well maintained store. Seems like its very inconsistant.
 
I've been in the store several times over the years and they get some nice animals but I would never buy from them. I had them pull out a young grayband once and it was twisting around in my hands like it had a neurological issue. I mentioned the way it was acting and the guy just said yeah with a slight laugh and put it back in the cage for sale. Probably nuked it treating for mites. I watched a female employee probe a supposed female ball python. She stopped pushing the probe after it almost disappeared. The amphibians are usually bone dry and look horrible. I've seen dead red eye and clown tree frogs in cages. From what I've heard from others who have bought from them you usually get complimentary mites with the purchase of a snake. I would not recommend buying from them unless you can go in and physically check the animal. I'm amazed anyone could say they have been there and considered it clean.

Yeah, I have noticed the same thing. Shall we go re-shopping and see if we pick possible same(s) again? lol

I'll admit, I've only been there the one time, and perhaps I caught them right after a big cleaning day (it was right before Christmas, 2010, maybe they were on their best behaviour.)

I was actually shocked at how good it looked because some of their Google and Yelp reviews indicated it wasn't up to par. I went in expecting it to be nasty, and was pleasantly shocked to find it otherwise.

I hadn't seen the negative Fauna ads at that point, though, and with what I've read there, I think I've changed my opinion about buying from them in the future.

Male:

- Albino Moltey
- Salmon

=P not everyone all at once I am more in the female department atm but I am keeping an eye out for some handsome boys too ;)
