In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Seeking Advice on Dan Scolardo

First, no carrier offers insurance on a live animal shipment.

Second, some level of guarantee whether 24 hours, 3 days etc DOES minimize buyer risk

We will just have to agree to disagree Jerry. Your pesimistic view of the industry does not seem to be shared by the majority

Suncoast, Yes some carriers do offer insurance

Delta Dash does, not to mention other airlines that you may pay a premium for, will handle animals and insure their arrival as guaranteed... The animals itself, no, but the delivery time yes !
Until you have been involved in litigation that has arisen out of a TOS due to the death of an animal and the terms accompanying the transaction, better to err on the side of caution..

Cpntrary to your statement, I think you will find many dealers especially those that have only 1 item to sell, are not looking for a marriage to obligate themselves beyond the arrival.. If so, each day only increases the ability for the buyer to change there mind, begin to doubt the sale, or feels that the price was not worth the purchase... This happens all the time... So if you feel its necessary for your own peace of mind to offer 7 days, be prepared for more then you bargained for... and you will see you are not doing yourself a favor....!

If you want to consider that being pessimistic, I can deal with that... But rest assured, when it goes before a judge, he is only interested in what is in writing, not what is implied.... A guarantee means nothing over a phone.

I demand as part of a transaction if I am the buyer, a written explanation of what the terms are prior to any payments.. based on that, whom I am dealing with, etc. is what is important to me... This may not reduce the guarantee one bit, but it does reduce my risk factor when paying...

If you go to The BOI, I just recently about 10 days ago made an inquiry into a person. There were no replys.. The transaction was for over $ 1,000 sight unseen to a person I did not even know... I was unable to get any information on this person other then I knew he had the geckos I wanted... He had 2.2 and could only handle PayPal as a form of payment... He also promised a 7 day health guarantee on the geckos... I requested that in writing as well how I wanted the geckos shipped, who the shipper would be and if he was willing as these were c.b. who they came from... All of these demands, were met in an email.. My risk factor was reduced enough to take the chance, ...............I did, and I was very satisfied... But I was lucky because these could not be replaced, and I am sure had there been a problem, the seller would not want to absorb the loss... I also took some other measurements to protect my or reduce my own liability if it became necessary , but it did not.... There is always even under the best of intentions a swing that can lead to a bad situation.. I like to be prepared for that, and just hope that everything works out.. Pessimistic maybe, cautious, wherever I can... As a footnote: after receipt of the geckos, I attempted to call him and email him as well........................never have heard from him again.. !

I was obviously speaking of the major carriers that are used for the vast majority of smalller sales. Tos spelled out on a website are every bit as binding as direct communication between a buyer and seller on a specific transaction.

15 years and several thousand internet transactions would tend to disagree with you Jerry. My terms are good but not really above the industry standard for captive bred animals. And i am doing myself a favor. i get the business that the folks with "Live Arrival Only" TOS don't get

Not really correct. A verbal contract is every bit as binding as a written one. It's just a lot harder to prove. that said, I don't think anyone here is espousing verbal agreements. If it is not spelled out on a website...you definitely want it in writing.

Definitely a good idea but, again, no more useful than a detailed TOS on a website

Again...a good plan but no more helpful than TOS spelled out well on a website.

OK John,

I will refer to your earlier message: we will have to agree on the fact that we disagree.. No problem there...Regardless of whatever terms you may use to purchase or sell, use discretion. Thats a fair assessment for anyone in this business.. Take care and thanks for the conversation.. JERRY

Jerry,
Delta Dash only pays up to $750.00 on claims. Using Priority One, you can insure for as much as you like (within reason).
