In case most of you have not noticed, I made changes to the donation amounts as well as the durations for all of the paid membership levels. Things are winding down here, and this seems to be the most prudent way to deal with the "end of life" period of this site.

Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Also I'm not into geckos but based on other comments made by those who are, wouldn't a chahoua gecko of that age and size be of indeterminate sex anyway, and buyers should know that?

You are assuming the buyer is some expert on geckos and more specifically this species of gecko. We were all beginners at one point. Maybe the buyer thought all geckos were different when it comes to telling the sex. In my opinion you have to treat everyone like they just impulse wanted that animal because they were reading about it one day. Assume that they are always beginners with little knowledge.

I have been looking for female chahoua, for a long time and have posted several ads requesting such. I browse the classifieds, every day, searching.
I remember seeing this original ad and passing on the animal for several reasons. The biggest of which was that it could not be confirmed female, given the age and weight.
I thought of sending the OP a PM to offer some friendly advice, but figured she had probably heard from others.
Anyway, it's probably best to simply return the money and move on.

If I am not confident of the sex, I simply will not use the type of language used here which caused an incident like this to even be possible.

I have contacted John and let him know about this thread, maybe he will let us know if Mariah has done the right thing.

That was a note added by the buyer if I'm not mistaken, so that really doesn't prove anything other than he may have read over the "poss" female, which I do agree she should have made it VERY CLEAR that it was a POSSIBLE female and not keep referring to it as of it was indeed guaranteed female.ugh. Please Note: one red based female chahoua. Yet she couldn't be 100% sure, what if it's a male? Could you imagine that conversation a few months from now.

The buyer should come make a BOI on her. She still has yet to even refund him his non deposit payment of $150. Supposedly he has only put in a claim for the deposit payment. The $150 for the non deposit should have already been returned because she has no right to that according to her mighty TOS. The other $150, for the deposit, SHOULD go back to him regardless. However that money is in Paypal's hands right now.
How the seller has handled this situation is absolutely horrible.

You know I totally understand a "non refundable" deposit to protect yourself from someone wasting your time. Like taking 3 months to pay it off, but then decide they don't want it. However, did this buyer try to waste her time? No and not only that but he didn't even take a week of this sellers time. Why take $150 from someone if they didn't really cost you that much?
It just shows the seller is greedy and doesn't care about her costumers.
Perhaps she is young and a bit inexperienced, or maybe just tired of getting her chain yanked by excited buyers that have a change of mind. Don't be so quick to judge.
For one - I do agree that with such a short period of time involved, she needs to refund the total amount. With Paypal having hijacked her account, she can't do so until they either release the funds back to her, or refund them to the purchaser.
My guess is she doesn't have the funds available to refund - not common when you expect a sale to stick, and don't expect a cancellation. Yeah, yeah, yeah - ideally we all have an extra account for payment plans and schedules - and not co-mingle funds, but in reality - who but the big breeders/wholesellers can afford to do so?
Here's my suggestion: agree to refund the entire payments made. Refund the second payment immediately if Paypal does not do so for you, and offer to refund the initial non-refundable deposit once the chachie sells to someone else. That way the buyer gets his lesson on reading the ads better and to think + ask Qs first before impulse buying, and the seller has most likely learned her lesson already. $300 bucks and one week's time is not worth burning a lot of bridges behind her. While the good feelings are already gone and both parties feel sour, doing the right thing by refunding the moneys paid, at least resolves the issue without too much hurt on both sides, even if he has to wait a bit longer than he wants to. Doing it this way allows her to schedule the second installment, when the chachie finally sells, without loosing face and knowing [and feeling] that she did the right thing in her own mind.
