• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Server loads??

Rich,

Several times today, at different times of day, I got a message indicating that server was too busy and to try again later. Is the site that busy, or is it time for a reboot/restart?

Probably a denail of service attack. They've been happening sporadically on some sites the last few days.

Hey Jim

Thanks for pointing this out also, so I can just add to something that happened to me on here that is really strange. I made a post that shows as page 9 on a thread, yet it does not show on the thread and there is no way to get to page 9
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?p=478509#post478509 page 8

If I check all post by me, it does show up there
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/search.php?searchid=494298 but if you click on it, it takes you back to page 8 of the thread and no post by me there or can you advance to page 9

Rich, any idea what this glitch is?

I just had a period of 25 minutes where I got server. From about 715 pm Easter to just a little bit ago

Been there done that yesterday and today. :shrug01:

Well there is no doubt in my mind that this site (as well as my other sites) have been attacked in the past and it still continues. Not just DOS attacks but by spoofing IP addresses and domains to make it appear that spam is originating from my sites to have them blocked by ISPs.

I'm curious to know how many others get bounced emails that are obvious spam with your domain name and IP address shown as the source?

Rich, we get them clusters at times bouncing back to me.... that I never sent. NO a lot anyone can do about that, it's the natrue of this beast to attact as many that use it for negative reason as those due for positive.

I used to get a fair number, but then I simply eliminated the "catchall" mailbox and so they are simply deleted by the server. Anyone who has a real problem with any of my domains they email "webmaster@" any of them. That one works. :shrug01:

I've been having trouble getting in here all morning......server is too busy.

Crazy stuff.

same here seeing --The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.--- on just about every click

It is that way on the Arms locker forums too Rich.

Beats me...... I see this spikes on occasion but apparently nothing can be done except to wait them out. All three of those sites are on the same server. Everytime I have alerted the server host techs about it, they could never locate a problem other than real traffic hitting the server. Rebooting the server will often fix the problem by shaking off the connections, but that is kind of extreme to do.

Rich,
Do you have a robots.txt files in place (or something similar) to control the bots? I have a very small forum set up at www.boagenetics.com with only a handful of users, but over 75% of my bandwith was attributed to googlebots crawling the site.

Seems to me I set up those robots.txt files on my domains, but heck I can't remember now. Might have been three servers ago, and I've added a bunch of domains since then...........

Thanks for the reminder.
