shady Andy from nerd strikes again

Andy said:
I appreciate your opinion Lucille, but maybe that opinion would be different, when you have two hours to call and work out details with customers that actually are your responsibility and then feed off 500 thawed rats before its time to leave or else they will go bad and go to waste.

Its more then not my department. I don't work for the company, and other then a couple phone calls, I had nothing to do with the transaction.

Andy, yes that changes things. It looks like you were pretty busy. But Eric was invited to come right back. I almost think that if a call had been made later, when he didn't have his kids and you weren't so busy, everything would have been ironed out?

well i guess we know who purchases nerd snakes and who just has common curtousy
and if you are so busy all the time Andy ,how is it that you have time to type away on a computer all day today.
maybe your hiding away from another dissappointed client

Nice try Eric,

Every post I have typed up until this one has been from my home on my own computer and on my own time.

I start at 1:00 on Thursdays and just logged in at work to see what had been said since I left home.

Just another accusation from you with no basis in reality.

Im sure any of the moderators could verify that this last post is from a different ip then my first posts. Nice try though.

So yes, I am busy at work, so I was dealing with this on my personal time.

Shame on me......

:ack2:

I completely see both sides of this situation and I think that both parties may have legit reasons for feeling the way they do.

However, I would understand why Eric would be confused, as far as going to Andy to deal with in the first place, since Andy picked up the phone when Eric first called about inquiring for a trade.

Lucille was right on. All of this could have been avoided Andy if you would have taken a few minutes to go downstairs and see Eric. Even though this may not be the " exact " company you are working for, the fact that both of these companies are in the same building, and you take calls for the other company as well, it is inevitable that confusion from the customer's part would have to happen sooner or later and a lack of consistency in customer service would be all too possible.

You took the call with Eric originally, he dealt with you at first, then he comes back and has to deal with someone else that wasn't even in the original transaction. Of course he would want to speak with you! I do not think at all that you or NERD or whoever in this are bad guys, I just agree with Lucille that more could have been done in just a few spared minutes.

Eric,
There might have been better ways to handle this. There is no indication of an actual dated time-line between when you had the entire transaction, and when you posted here. Maybe an email or two to Andy in the interim might have helped matters better than first posting here about "Shady Andy". As it is now, you are posting with lots of barbs, unflattering assumptions, etc, and whatever possible good solutions existed once, things are worse-off now. IMO, you posted in anger and in haste, and given the significant development that the snake may have been a female after all, not to mention the implications that you relied on Andy to help you sex snakes in the past, you do not appear to know how to take a step backward. Seems your only goal here is to smear Andy.

FYI folks, of course Andy could have acted differently and perhaps this misunderstanding would not have blossomed as it has. That is why we call it 20-20 hindsight. But Andy did not blow-up. He did not come here with a post about "Shady Eric and the mis-sexed snake". The preponderance of "cheap shots" has been a one-way street so far IMO.

So you are saying that anyone posting anything here that is remotely contrary to your position is doing so because they "purchases nerd snakes"? Really now? You have got to be kidding. As for your having daddy duty when you are off from work that is still your choice and your problem and is completely irrelevant to this transaction. I had a modicum of sympathy for your position until you started throwing even more stink bombs like what's contained in the post above.

I wouldn't want to deal with you either. And no, I'm not currently in the market for anything that NERD sells so that isn't the reason why.

Business Principles 101

Why is everyone overlooking the most basic Rule-Of-Thumb principle of any business. The customer is ALWAYS right. Any business that loses sight of this concept will surely suffer.

Andy, if you have nothing to do with the downstairs operations then you should have no part of ANY stage of the operations, phone calls, deals, arrangements, nothing. If you have no part of downstairs or the boa deals there why did you take the call and work out the details of this transaction in the beginning?

Furthermore, I too have to feed off hundreds of rats, rabbits, pigs and the like and clean up untold hundreds of snake poops each and every day. But I ALWAYS have whatever time necessary for my customers. I never compromise or make excuses or insult my customers. Even just 5 minutes to email or phone can make all the difference in the world.

Also, is Kevin aware of all this and what is going on? As both businesses are owned by him I'm sure he would want both represented in the best, most positive way possible at all times. I seriously doubt if he would want even one unhappy customer regardless of what the details of the deal were/are. I doubt he would want this thread going on and on with back and forth immature bickering about how a customer was treated at the business he owns. I would suggest giving this customer the female hypo he originally wanted and make him happy. That's just my opinion. And if it were my business I would give it to him for free for all the hassle and to put an end to this negative thread.

Just my thoughts on the matter
David Beauchemin

David,
uhhhhh... errrrrr ...... while many of us have our own understandings of what is meant by "the customer is always right" ...... IMO, that does not include all that is said in a BOI post. Especially if I am the one who is the target, and I feel that the facts have been misrepresented. Also, a few of us retain the right to designate someone a "non-customer", and then they can be pretty damn wrong !

im truly sorry for all the malcontent this thread has caused on anyones part
yes i was angry but i had good reason
in retrospect it just doesnt seem worth it

lets move on

andy ,even though i will not be dealing with you or your company again i do wish you the best ,hopefully we can all learn from this experience
and deal with things upfront and forthright
later

Sexing

So Eric- just curiously do you think that you may have made a mistake in the sexing as the scent glands can look very much like hemipenes if you dont have a lot of experiance in this dept. I have noticed you never disputed Andy saying you made a sexing mistake. In my experiance with Nerd I cant say anything bad at all, the facility is beautiful and clean, all the animals are well fed and cared for, kept in adequate space, and in my past experiance there all sexed correctly. So I am shocked that you had a bad experiance, Andy has always seemed straight forward in the few times that I havce met him, Dan.

David, with all due respect, that quote is rather dated. The customer is not always right. While it's always in the sellers best interest to be accommodating, the BOI has made blazingly clear that there are some customers who are simply off their rocker. Customers who will always be discontent no matter how far backwards you bend.

It only holds true until the customer is wrong. Sometimes they are. I'm not commenting specifically on this matter as I have made my thoughts clear already, but if one of my tenants starts a grease fire in the kitchen and claims it was an electrical arc from the stove, and the fire department report says it was a grease fire, I charge them for the clean up, the repairs, and for replacing the appliances. Why? Because they (my customers) were wrong. If they resist paying, I let the insurance company sue them and I sue for the deductible. Why? Because the customer was wrong.

Back to this case, there were many things which Eric could have done to prevent this fiasco, the least of which would have been to have sexed the animal before leaving the premises. Then there's the issue of calling Andy "shady" which was uncalled for. Yes, it's true, Andy could have come downstairs and tried to cool things off, but in his version, he explained to Eric not once, but twice, that the people at Zoo Creatures were going to be handling this. His assistance/interference may not have been appreciated at that moment by the folks that manage the pet store.

I am wondering the same thing.

A few seem to agree that:

Andy, if you have nothing to do with the downstairs operations then you should have no part of ANY stage of the operations, phone calls, deals, arrangements, nothing.

Rather than Andy come back and re-explain things again, I think he has already explained things here, and that maybe some posts should be looked at again by those posing the above concern. Here are a few quotes from Andy, and I do not see any conflict in them:

First off, I originally talked on the phone with you and told you to come down, But the trade itself was done by another employee, not me. I talked to you on the phone when I was passing through the pet store, just to help out because the employees downstairs in the pet store were busy.

Third, I told you multiple times on the phone after you left with the hypo to come back and it would be taken care of, you kept asking if you could get the other hypo female, I told you I didn't think that would be a problem, but it is up to the discretion of the people downstairs, because I don't work downstairs, someone else is in charge of the reptile room and any trades that will happen.

I told you it was up to their discretion multiple times on the phone Eric!!

I told the person that was in charge of the situation at that time in the retail store that I wasn't interested in getting the snake for my breeding group upstairs at NERD, and the decision would be all up to them and all stemmed on if they thought they could resell the snake and benefit the pet store, right in front of Eric.

Then when Eric called back I was very clear that it was up to the discretion of someone else how everything would be worked out with the mis sexed snake, that turned out to be sexed 100% correct.

I highlighted those parts that I think are most relevant to showing that Andy has never claimed that he "has nothing to do with them (the downstairs store)", as there obviously is some interaction. I don't see it as of much relevance, as it is completely logical, is it not, that Andy would not be involved in the decision on this one, exactly as he stated? How well that was communicated to, or understood by, Eric is another matter, as we can't know that. But the nature of Andy's involvement is well stated, and is logical to a few of us anyway.

For all you wonderers, didn't Andy answer that already?

Second we never had a set time for you to be there so how would I know when to be there when you got there?? If you were so concerned with the wait it would have been very easy to set up a time when we could have expected you, which you did not.

You then asked if I would be around or if I was going to be in and out, I told you I would be in and out and there was a good chance I wouldn't be around.
I believe that he's addressed why he got on the phone. Ever answer your wife's cell phone when she was in the bathroom or the shower or changing a diaper or otherwise engaged? Or a friend's phone for them? Andy seems to have made this clear in his fairly level headed posts. On the other hand, Eric started with name calling and titled this thread unfairly calling Andy shady. The fact is that Eric had no transaction with Andy or with NERD. He had a phone conversation with Andy who directed him that he could make a trade with Zoo Creatures. Eric's transaction evidently was with Zoo Creatures, not with NERD or with Andy. Why was Andy responsible for fixing what turned out to be Eric's mistake in first not sexing the animal himself before leaving Zoo Creatures and second incorrectly sexing it once he got home?

I actually make it a point NOT to answer any phone other than my own unless expressly asked to do so for reasons similar to those in evidence here.

Just a little thought for food.

If Andy had been able to see the accident that was waiting to happen, maybe he'd have handed the phone so someone else and said "Here, its for you." Good for him for not being one to shirk the opportunity to assist. Not at all dissimilar to two variations of employee: the one that says "I can do that"; and the other that says "That's not my job". The former moves up, the latter moves out !

You mean that no good deed goes unpunished? I doubt Andy is the telephone operator at Zoo Creatures. As he said, he took the call because they were busy and he was helping out. If he hadn't maybe someone would whine that he was left on hold for too long. That's a no win situation. Faulting a guy for answering a question and giving proper instructions is ridiculous. He gave good customer service in taking the call in the first place.
