Aprylla, does it look like the medication that was prescribed was being administered, or is the bottle still full?
Unfortunately, the bottle appears to have only had *maybe* 1 ounce gone from it (still full almost to the top). It was prescribed on 9/13/04 and was supposed to be used twice daily. It appears that it was not used very often. The vet had no further info. She read everything in the file to me in detail. Sine there was never a follow-up visit to see if the anti-fungal spray worked, there were never more tests run. There was also not a fecal done, which will be something I will have my vet do asap.
FYI, the Uro scarfed down nearly an entire large mustard green leaf tonight (finely chopped with a little bit of vitamins added). She was hungry. I am giving her small portions of food every coupel hours so that she won't overeat too quickly and get sick. She appears to be eating great. Her weight isn't the worst I've ever seen for an imported Uro, but definitely isn't great.
After I soaked the Uro in warm water today for about an hour, the skin on her belly already looks slightly better. One of the "bumps" actually FELL OFF of her. I examined it as best I could (I was a vet tech 10 years ago) and found it to be a waxy substance (nothing like a cyst) it was just like candle wax after its been melted off the candle and re-forms. Underneath the "bump" was a small hole in the skin, but it appears to have new skin growing under it. I decided to not only use the spray medication from the vet, but also to use an anti-fungal cream on those bumps as well (several hours after using the spray). I have been doing research online about her condition. IMO (and my vet will have to be the one to determine this, I am not a vet) her condition was caused by: unsanitary conditions, an improper or insufficient diet and general bad husbandry and also possibly a yeast-like infection (caused by bad diet). Like I said that is just my opinion. I have had reptiles for almost 12 years now (didn't get into reptiles until I was 20) and just from my experience this looks like neglect. Either on the part of Sheila or the person she purchased the lizard from (*presumably* Reptilemax, but of coarse, I don't know for sure). In any case, I will do all I can to see that the lizard gets healthy again.
I am sure the lizard would look really "cute" to you guys right now. Due to the open belly sore, I decided to make sure no germs got in there and bandaged up her belly (wrapped all the way around her back), it looks almost like a Mali Uro burrito. It doesn't seem to bother her though. She is currently basking under a heat lamp on a full belly of greens.
Will update as there are changes or questions. I am choosing to keep a bit quiet about what is going on "behind the scenes" right now regarding Sheila and who she is being reported to, etc. I will say though, just because I have the Uro and it is alive, this has not stopped here. Will post more when I can about other actions being taken regarding Sheila.
Thank you all so much for your public support as well as all the kind and encouraging private mesages I have received. I promise to keep everyone informed of the Uro's condition as it progresses.
