• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....
.... but SYR's was endorsing lying about what was in the package so UPS would accept and ship the package.

Why would they do this?

Apologies if this was said as I haven't read this entire thread, but I know the answer to this. SYR really just gets a bulk discount from UPS and passes part of that discount on to the customer (I'm sure everybody knows that part). Because of that, they can never provide a more reliable service than UPS can, only cheaper.

I'm a long time UPS client and I kept hearing different stories about reptile shipping legality, so I called them about 5 years back. Since it was a while ago I can't tell you the reps name, sorry. He told me that NATIONALLY they don't have a policy regarding reptiles, but that each individual office could set up rules regarding what animals they felt were unsafe to ship/receive, and that some offices had "snakes" on that list. He then told me that if I packed the animal well and marked it fragile, but didn't tell the specific shipping office what was in it, that I "should never have any problems".

So really, SYR is just repeating what UPS, the actual shipper, told me.

I believe someone else had posted something similar years ago as well. UPS now has written policy about animal shipping visible to the public...

Accepted Live Animals
This is a comprehensive list of live animals accepted for transportation. Shippers are prohibited from shipping any animal not listed here, and all other live animals will not be accepted for transportation. The following live animals are accepted for transportation unless poisonous, venomous, and/or Threatened or Endangered Species.

  • Amphibians (All): Examples: frogs, salamanders, toads
  • Crustaceans (All): Examples: crabs, crawfish, lobsters, shrimp
  • Fish (All)
  • Insects (Limited to beneficial insects only): Examples: bees, butterflies, crickets, lady bugs
  • Mollusks (All): Examples: clams, mussels, snails
  • Lizards: Examples: chameleons, geckos, iguanas, monitors, flying dragons
  • Turtles: freshwater turtles (except: snapping turtles), land tortoises, sea turtles
  • Worms (All)

Prohibited Live Animals
Live Animals that are prohibited from being shipped and are not accepted for transportation include, but are not limited to:

  • Any poisonous, venomous or threatening animal
  • Any Threatened or Endangered species
  • Arachnids (All): Examples: mites, scorpions, spiders, ticks
  • Birds (All)
  • Crocodiles (All): Examples: alligators, caimans, gavials
  • Mammals (All)
  • Obnoxious Insects: Examples: flies, locusts, mosquitoes, roaches, termites, weevils
  • Snakes (All): venomous and non-venomous

Even if a UPS representative stated "just mark it as fragile", Federal law trumps a courier service's policy. Being that SYR is run by the same people at ProExotics who have been shipping for well over a decade, they can't play dumb on it...Especially when it was pointed out to them a few months after they opened their doors...

Violating UPS

I think that those who violate these UPS terms are not breaking federal law but breaking a company's regulations. A big difference if I am correct.

Lacey act says that you must properly label the package, so for anyone to say to NOT mark the box properly would be breaking federal law irregardless of UPS's company policy.

I agree. However, labeling requirements for the interstate travel of wildlife is regulated by the federal government, not UPS.

Shipping of Appex II animals requires as per federal law that the latin species name, the common name, and the quantity, are to plainly marked on the box.

Just to be a bit more specific.

AND IT BEGINS :shrug01:

I just recieved an email from these guys saying that they have finilized their deal with fed-ex, and that people can now ship through them. Is this true, and why dont people have to be certified to do so

I was told by a couple sources at fedex that the part highlighted below is not true. I would like to know what everyone else has heard from their repts.

"* ShipYourReptiles.com customers can ship live non-venomous reptiles, including snakes, to and from businesses and residences."

Just get your own certification done. Rates are the same under your own account as under theres. Mine is actually avg 1.50 cheaper then SYR rates.

That is what is coming out of Fedex. So others are being told the same thing.

They are only taking out the work needed to ship snakes. making more prone to mess ups and not caring. They can just create a NEW account under SYR and keep on going.

With FedEx your going to double or triple check everything before printing or sticking the airbill on.

Im all for getting one's own certification. What I dont understand is why would fedex look pass that step, as I believe it is one of the most important tools used to make sure that people are complying to safe and proper shipping methods.

It appears that they ARE on the up and up. Here's what I got:

They did let me know that this deal is legit… but it’s not offered to individual shippers. -Wayne

I guess congratulations are in order.

Well, since this is officially released, I thought now I might as well post the stipulations that were provided to me by FedEx for SYR shipping...

1) FedEx requires SYR packaging for SYR shipments
2) FedEx requires that SYR follow all posted policies on live animal shipping, including prohibiting residential delivery

Now, on SYR's home page it states they are allowed to ship residential however, if you read their FAQ, contradictory information is posted. Click here for reference. In one breath it states you are permitted to ship residential with them, but the next it states you must follow FedEx policies, which strictly prohibits residential delivery and certification is required. Click here for reference. (Click Federal Express U.S. Terms and Condition and then Live Animals and Ornamental Marine Life)

So, if they have an exemption, provide it to your users, otherwise I see it as no different then the UPS scandal.

I do applaud SYR sincerely for finally providing information to their users about labeling requirements. Click here for reference.

I would never congratulate them. Third party shipping is a disaster waiting to happen. Lets just hope they don't ruin it for the rest of us.

This is inline with what I have been told by the people I have contacted at FedEx.
