What do you think would happen if there were no rating system at all? Would the site be better?

If you want to get down to brass tacks, it is thought that Jesus was born in the spring and the movement of his "birthday" to dec 25 was so that it closely coincided with Winter Solstice.

Nope, and I never claimed that. Your claim was that an inherent drawback to anonymous posting is that no one knows what you mean, and that it somehow reduces the comprehensibility of your posting. I STILL don’t see the logic in this. To be blunt, it sounded as if you were saying that without the benefit of prejudice, you could not interpret a post with any accuracy.Wilomn said:Does your not understanding, or mine, or anyone elses mean that there was only one way to interpret those little letters lined up so neatly on the screen?
Count me among the former, Wes. But I still think it’s hyperbolic to apply words such as “courageous” and “cowardly” to discussion board antics. I can’t remember the last time I saw a truly “brave” act on Fauna. And for some dean, neither distance nor form of interaction make any difference to what is said. To some it is all the difference in the world.

I don't live on Fauna, so I don't have instant recall concerning Laura or her history. And though I'm familiar with the Mile High thread, the details are murky in my memory. You're probably right, and I haven't looked hard enough for examples of bravery here. However, "bravery" is an abused word, and its application can be subjective. Maybe I just can't remember seeing anything that fit my definition. It's like when a Hollywood actor is praised for making a "brave" choice by deciding to play a mentally handicapped character, or by choosing an obscure role in an indie film. It doesn't fit my definition of the word.Griz said:Then you're not looking. Take a look at the Mile High thread on the BOI or the thread about Laura Fopiano. Both got put into very bad situations and instead of running, they took it head on. It takes a great deal of bravery to do such an act especially in the public eye.
