In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Shrillomn, a brief expose

Wilomn said:
Also, unlike you, most likely, I do have people gunning for me. I've had death threats, my address and phone number posted, numerous hangups, promises of "friends" coming to meet me which I DO say is pure cowadice. I have had these fun things tossed my way because I've been instrumental in outing some pretty foul characters, which is in no way my doing alone or brave at all, it's just something I like to do. Given my situation, I like to know who's poking me with a stick, to know if there's a PERSONAL backstory there, to know if it's one of the dumbasses I've handed their own ass to or just someone else looking for a good time.
I agree that these acts that you list (e.g. death threats; hang-ups) are cowardly. And you are correct in guessing that I don't have people gunning for me. I commend you for your role in outing some foul scammers and thieves, but for your sake, I hope that you see the fine lines that exist between bravery, bravado, and foolhardiness. I hope that you are never endangering your own safety or that of your family so that you can have fun getting in the last word in some internet battle with a scammer over fake hets, or bad geckos, or whatever. Dead Fauna heroes aren't buried in Arlington.

And a reminder: just as the initial letter in a sentence is capitalized, so too are the initial letters in proper names. ;)

There's no heroism involved dean. In fact, until it was a rule, I never used my name at all. I ask nothing from anyone, never have. I'm just a guy who's gotten good at seeing through facades and is also not too bad at stringing words together, lining those letters up as it were, in such fashion that small minds are irritated in large ways.

While there is, on occasion, some bravado involved, it's part of the game. Foolhardiness is not so much a concern, though I am familiar with it, as most are just fluff and bluff.

So you see, sometimes there are factors involved that you are simply unaware of which can radically alter the credibility of any poster who is too cowardly to use his own name. shrilly is a prime example of this. Someone is either too cowardly or too ashamed or too scared of posting his/her/their own name to be credible.

It's a bit of a personal thing and I fault you not for not adhering to it yourself. We all have to do what we think is best. Some of us are willing to own it, some are not.

I feel that there is a certain bravado attained from the basis of sitting at a keyboard and injecting views over cyberspace. As you may get use to the postings of anyone, the anonymity of this means of communication truly leaves you wondering as to the question, "is this person really like this" ?

The blatant extent of the falsity with "shrilly" and his reported goal is what makes this the extreme. To not only admit and promote you are a false identity but to duplicate the user name of a well know poster is the problem that sent this beyond reason.

The numerical split that Rich has given is probably the telling factor of Fauna. Since I have been a member and admittedly a lurker more than poster there is always people who complain about the status quo. Rich as always made mention of the fact that people constantly are after him about someone or something on this site. And no matter the change it always rubs someone the wrong way. This site is what it is, its grown beyond the designs and controls of its creator. To "make it better" as some have stated simply ads fuel to the fire of those who want something to complain about. I actually like the "absentee owner" approach, it gives the poster the greatest ability to show their true colors. It empowers us to kick the bad guys a** but to insert the same size 12 in mouth, and all without the fear of censorship and moderation to save us from ourselves.

This thread is in the "BS" section just where it belongs. The BOI has its purpose and its use as it always has. There are classifieds and forums for topical discussions, if the hobby is growing so will the hits. And needless to say with human nature there will always be a stong place in the market for the BOI and therefore for Fauna. Rich this may not be what you wanted but its pretty darn good place anyway.

Merry Christmas to all.

I understand what you're saying Wes, but there is another possibility IMO. If someone has a negative brand here on Fauna anything they say will quickly be turned into a fauna "bloodfest".

It may not be that they are too cowardly to post under their own name but they realize to do so would be a waste of time. So in some cases anonymity has its purpose.

Nicely said, Michael. (I'm taking some advice from someone I respect alot, who suggested that it's better to give kudos to a post publicly rather than utilize the karma system.)

I have never liked or used the Karma system....
Thank you Terese I will say was just thinking of you for "Butters" just got his jumbo rat for the holidays.

Sorry off topic

While what you say may be true, consider this. Is the negative brand deserved? IF so, why not a "bloodfest?"

IF the negative brand is NOT deserved, look at the absence of the more intelligent posters.

If someone insists of proving that they are a dumbass, why is it bad/wrong/out of place to acknowlede that dumbassity?

To the left, if someone is thought of by some as a dumbass but is not universally considered such, there are those here who will speak up and defend that someone. Now, depending on who'd defending whom, a great deal can be learned about a lot of people.

Wouldn't you want to know who is actually doing what to and for whom?

Eh, given due consideration, it really doesn't matter. We'll each do what we want, how we want, when we want and the reasons for the wants aren't, most likely, going to make any difference to any of us.

Too bad it's as cold as it is, it would be nice to go see some slithers in the wild today.

About the only difference in me "in person" and the "online me" is that in person I am much more happy go lucky and like to clown around and cut up. Always quick to smile and hoping to put a smile on the face of those around me. I am that way here as well, but it is harder to convey that online and often leads to misunderstandings. So I tone it down a bit online.

But other than that, what you see here is what you get. At least where myself is concerned anyway.

My language OFFline is atrocious. I swear like a construction worker! Probably cuz I'm around them all the time, but that's not much of an excuse. LOL
And I'm probably a little more direct in person than on line. Things just get read/taken wrong a lot online. I'm guilty of it too.

Ooops, I wasn't supposed to post anymore. Guess that makes me a liar.

Lol, yeah Rich I am a bit of a sailor at heart myself. My language can be a bit colorful at times too. You can take the boy out of the locker room, but you cant take the locker room out of the boy....

For the record, I'm a bit more quiet in person, need some time to be clever, but say pretty much exactly what I write, when I say anything at all. The Faithful Fauna Readers have NO idea how many times I've just kept quiet, as unbeleivable as that is, instead of posting.

In general, this is probably the thing that leads to the most misunderstandngs online. One cannot detect nuances of tone, facial expressions, quick winks, and so on.

I'm very direct in person like I am here, but also much more playful in person. And I swear a lot more offline than here, like some of the other guys. I'd guess that most people would have little trouble "recognizing" me based upon my online persona.

I believe it clear to all that Shrillomn was no stranger here. I would suggest that there were other reasons for the alias besides baggage. Just IMO, but Shrill probably knows the tendency of some criticisms, legitimate or otherwise, is to be responded to with a gutter character attack. If nothing else, Shrill utilized the ever expanding wartime concept of stealth .... the smallest possible target profile while still delivering ordinance. Not saying that it was the best or right approach, just that it was not without its upsides.

Dean ...... spelled with a capital "D" wes ...... I am also going to have to say you were on the money about "courage" here. I cannot label acts of courage in someone's business, which is then publicized here, as courageous in Fauna. Fauna is a tabloid, providing folks the maximum opportunity to make fools of themselves if so inclined. A minority resist the opportunity, and might deserve kudos for maturity and self control relative to the rest. The majority seem hellbent on using it to vent frustration, apparently in the belief that that they elevate by putting others down. BTW Dean, you write very well. As you can surmise, you and wes will be at even greater odds in no time if you continue to post. All IMMHO, and no surprise.

To those who felt the need to once again toot their own horns, yank their cranks, etc, with a paragraph or two more fit for EHarmony.com .........

Ladies and gents ..... I am an A$$hole in all venues, and fit right in most everywhere I go

Just thought that I would take a moment and share a picture from my vacation down in Florida.
It looks like things have really been jumping here since I've been gone.

I hope most of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

Passing the Torch

The time has come to pass the torch again.
This time, anyone who proves their worth may carry on.

Solve the riddle and you will have the key to this account.
Do with it what you will.

From ground zero begins the author.
He moves south past The line to find his prize.

I still have shrilly on ignore but didn't someone quote this ...... facade as saying it was leaving never to return?

So much for truth, honesty and The American Way.

Shrillomn, is Hillary Clinton, if that don't beat all!!!
