In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I bought a DH sunglow from the reptile ranch and he came in very sick. I carried him to the vet that day and she agreed that the snake was very ill and had been before shipment. He can hold his head up but it will flop from side to side or backward. He was dehydrated and had very little muscle tone.I called the people and e-mailed but I got no response. They finally responded when I told my plight on kingsnake. They said the animal was perfectly healthy and that I was out of luck. I told them that the vet said he had all the symptoms of advanced stage IBD and there was no way that it happened overnight. They said that unless I had a biopsy dated for the day he arrived then I was on my on. I mean the snakes head was shaking from side to side. But they want to say that the snake was perfectly healthy when it left, just 18 hours earlier. Stay away from these people.

Yes he was quarantined so my other snakes will be ok. They will not accept his return because "he could have gotten sick from my animals and they don't want anything to hurt their perfectly healthy animals".

If you do a search here on the BOI for Reptile Ranch you will see that they have a long history of situation like yours.

They are truly someone I would never do business with.

Sick snake from reptile ranch, WOW someone should have checked the BOI before sending their money. seriously, sorry you got taken Heath. :)

Crap! In my opinion, sick animals is about all they send out.
Just a few threads to show what kind of people you are dealing with.

Not that I doubt they sent you a very ill snake, but go ahead and post all the emails to show their continual excellent customer service skills. Cough..Cough.

If the snake dies, you should have a necropsy done. If these people are knowingly sending out snakes infected with IBD they should be put out of business asap! There has to be some legal recourse if it can be proven. Good luck!

Get Tests Done!

Casey is right. But you should be able to determine this whether the snake is alive or not. I recently read about some unfortunate fella in Georgia that bought an IBD infected salmon boa that contaminated his entire colony. He had them all checked while they were still alive and aparently well and found out they had contracted the disease. They all had to be put down. I think his name is B.W. Smith. You might want to check with him as to how to go about the testing. You need to get some irrefutable proof that the snake you got from them has this disease. This will make it easier for you to get your money back and even more importantly to help put them out of business so they can't sell anymore sick snakes to other good unsuspecting folks. The domino effects of such practices are just incalcuable.

Bottom line here is that this is UNACCEPTABLE. Everyone reading this thread should be able to pull together to somehow put pressure on this company to cease such practices and to refund this poor guys money. Perhaps once he provides incontrovertable proof of this snakes illness a forwarded email about this business and their practices amongst the herp community can reach more people than this isolated thread. If 10 herpers each forward it to 10 herpers and etc, etc. Eventually everyone will know to avoid this company and these people. There MUST be a way to shut people like this DOWN. It's just appalling. It must become common knowledge to avoid this company at all costs. People like them threaten every single aspect of this industry and hobby. (if the allegations are accurate and true)

David Beauchemin

People like this should not be in the business buying selling, or even in the hobby period, apparently they don't care about the animals to even ship it sick in the first place. I know that heath has most likely paid good money and is now dealing with an animals that is sick and may even die, they don't care about that either. What makes me mad is the animals that suffers for this and these people could care less at all, they have no heart, show NO love for the animals to do this, all they care about is the pocket make a buck, ship it on out. I wouldn't even want to know the conditions of what that animal had to live in, if this is the way they are. Its really sad.

Shawna

Its really sad but it seems like there is very little that can be done to force these scumbags out of the industry. You can expose them on the BOI but the reptile industry is HUGE and without some sort of regulatory body (and I am not sure that it is doable or even the right thing) it doesn't make a huge dent. Look at the guys who still sell despite peddling sick and dying animals for years.

The Reptile Ranch and Laura( who is very good at telling stories) cost me $1300. I wish I knew about is site first...............Scott Sweeney

This has to stop. Has anyone made formal complaints with Kingsnake, local authorities or anyone??? I am tired of seeing these guys rip people off.....

i agree, somone should complain to their local police, and maybe find out who their neighbors are to see if they have any complaints they can file against them as well... anything to knock them out of business...

I tried, The animal control office is tied to the police dept. I never could get ahold of them. I tried to contact Cal. Fish & Game.......it was not their problem. I wrote Kingsnake a 2 page letter describing what happened and Kingsnake said they would look into and never heard another word. I no longer by from kingsnake. They could put in a system like EBAY to track good guys and DIRT BAGS (LAURA) but it appears Kingsnake is more concerned about their paid customers....Scott Sweeney

Well it's obviously affecting them because they no longer have ads up under Reptile Ranch..........I would keep trying animal control. What city are they in??? Do you have an address for their business?

Also how did you pay for this snake. If you paid by credit card you have the vet report to back up the health of this animal, hopefully you can stop payment on them with the vet proof? Shanell.

I think, based on speaking with Animal Control, that ANY complaint filed MUST be investigated.

Keep complaining to whatever dept. is in charge of Animal Regulation in their city.

Also, if anyone wants to cover some travel expenses I'd be happy to go up and take a look and some pictures myself.

Could be a good time, neh?
