In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Honestly... I can see why Evan was offended by your email. I would assume that atleast 80% of "FIRM" prices do get changed. In any sales that I have done.. herps or not.. there was always room to work with.. and if a buyer is willing to pay up front... in 80% of those cases something can be worked out. There is **NEVER** any harm in asking. When Evan found out that the seller was seriously not going to lower the price, he replied with a thank you. SimplySnakes had to reason to send a flame back. Period.

Apology

Evan,

We would appreciate your apology posted here for the harassment in which you have given us.

Sincerely,
Beth
Simply Snakes

Evan,

We have exchanged e-mails publicly and privately and you have always come across as a reasonable person. I don't know what happened this time, but obviously something triggered a response that was completely out of proportion. I don't agree with your assessment that Almost every thread in this forum is vindictive , and I'm sorry you view the BOI that way.

Maybe you don't care what the rest of the readers in this forum think about you, but if you want people to respect your opinions in the future I believe you owe "Simply Snakes" an apology.

Sincerely.

Scott, thank you. That was exactly how I felt and what happened.

Simply snakes, you are the ones not telling the truth. I was nothing but totally curteous to until I thanked you for your time and was done with you. You had sent me a total of three emails without even one complete sentence. How much of your time was wasted? Two minutes? You then had to attack me after that. Let's not all jump to to the wrong conclusions here. I sent that nasty email AFTER I was sent an insulting email, after I put up with their short, rude, incomplete responses and was still nice.

I will not ever apologize. I have not lied about anything. Why in the first response after I had aksed twice about the price didn't you just say you would not go down? How much of your time would that have saved? YOU kept me interested by not telling me you would not go down on the price. Learn to read. If in your first email you had answered that question it would have ended there.

Did I over react in my rude response? Yes. Did you deserve it for the way you treated me? Yes. So there it is. All of you that want to make more of this than it is, keep going. Attacking me when I have done nothing to you and I was the offended party here. This is what this board is for, unsatisfactory dealings with people in this business. If you don't like the thread, don't read it or go beg Rich to delete it.

I'm done. I have had three phone calls tonight already and two emails from people who will not waste their time posting here asking me I even bother with "you people" and why don't I just go tell you all to "get f---ed". I spend alot of time on this board trying to help everybody with their problems but when I am pissed off I get attacked. And it is always a gang mentality on here. Nobody has the balls to stand alone. So I am alone, attack me. I could care a less. You don't like me, don't talk to me. I was treated unnecessarily rudely by these people. I chose not to tolerate it. Simple.

As unnecessary as Evan's email was, I have to say that this response;
The AD SAYS FIRM. You should not waste peoples time.
was just as unnecessary and unprofessional. If you go to a suit store and try on a suit, then decide you don't want it, would it be ok for the salesman to belligerently tell you that you should not waste peoples' time, or would you be offended by that totally unprofessional response and either put the salesman in his place or have his manager do it? I'm not sticking up for that last email that Evan wrote, but it never would have existed if Simply Snakes had not deicded to give a prospective buyer a peice of their mind.

You know what? I'll do it myself since Rich has already jumped on me this week anyways as well.

Rich, why don't you just go ahead and delete this thread since. I am not sure why I read these threads and why I author posts on here. It is never a good idea.

The last time when I posted and told everyone that a guy posting here was a thief and had stolen from a bunch of my friends about a dozen people attacked me for it. Then as time went by about 20 people posted to back up my accusations and told everyone that he was a thief and they had been taken too everyone saw the light. I never got one single apology.

There was another thread on this board where I had info on a deal between two people. One person posted here and everyone took his side except me. I tried to make it clear that he was lying and the other party was the righteous party. I was attacked by several regulars here. Later, after a dozen pages of posts, there were tons of people backing my side of the argument and not one defending the guilty party as he was proved to be a liar and a bad one at that. I never got one apology. So I guess I find it funny that I am expected to apologize now when I feel I am right. And I will not.

I post about something that I am actively doing (which nobody supports) to fight anti reptile laws and it is moved to the legislative section where in 3 days, one person has responded to the thread and less than a hundred have read it

I will just post on the legislative board where apparently none of you have the time to go.

Thanks Richard. I admitted earlier that I went overboard but at least you aggree that you understand why I did it. Also, about the matter you contacted me about legislation, as you were one of the only motivated people, I hope you have seen what I am working on. Evan

Uffern makes a good point. However we are not dealing with suits in a store.

Their add said firm. They have every right to stand by that simple statement. Just becasue 80%, to quote I don't remember who on a previous page in this thread, of the adds that say firm wind up not being firm doesn't mean that Simply Snakes is in that 80%.

Obviously they are in the 20% of those who actually stick by what they say.

If I placed an add that said firm and then had people trying to get me to come down I would get irritated too. It's not like they said what the #### is your problem Even, can't you read? They simply stated that it was a waste of their time. To them it was. Simple.

If I did put an add that did say firm, I would mean firm. If it was just a price then I would be open to offers.

Even, I think you over reacted to having your wrist slapped. They weren't rude, they weren't mean, they just stated what they felt. This is hardly worth the effort to make it right, it should have just been written off. No one is a bad guy here, perhaps not so polite as is the norm, but you two really should just shake hands and move on.

Evan,

Following your line of reasoning we should all take offense that the people who called you will not waste their time posting here. That is their prerrogative, maybe they have better things to do. Most of "we people" have been called "mental midgets", retardeds, etc. But most of us don't care...

You have been an asset to this site with opinions respected by most. The ones that this time are pointing out your mistake are the ones standing alone, and the ones that think that by acting this way you damage your reputation. Who of the two do you think care more about you, the ones who tell you to send us all to "get xxxxxx" or the rest? Think about it.

Kindly.

The AD SAYS FIRM. You should not waste peoples time.

I would've been offended with this reply. Even if the prices were "FIRM" and a sale hadnt been made......simply snakes just lost a potential future customer in Evan.

We've all have had our fair share of people inquiring about animals or people just wanting to know what our bottom dollar was......I hate to tell you.....but when you've got something to sell, then you're going to get inquiries.

Its how we respond and act upon those inquiries that makes us professional or not.

I see where Evan might've come across harsh, but I think he had every right to be pissed and he responded in his own way.

Ok. I'll pass. Thanks

the above quote should've warranted a much more professional response. Otherwise maybe simply snakes and other sellers should put " price is firm, no haggle no hassle, pay what we're asking or dont buy, don't email or call us unless you're gonna pay what we're asking" into their ads !?

Alvaro, I like you. You seem like a good person. We have typed back and forth. I try my best. You just have to understand that being human, I was treated badly and got upset. I have said it a bunch of times I know it was harsh but I was angry. Like Richard said in conjunction with what I said, it was harsh, but it would never have happened if they had not taken a pot shot at me after I had nicely said goodbye. What possible purpose did that serve other to piss me off? Can you come up with any reason that would motivate that other than to be rude and insulting? I can't. I have a temper and it gets exercised. I feel bad about my language but I was hot. It happens. I think if a nun or priest stubbs their toe in an empty church they probably may say something they otherwise never would. It is all context. It is too easy to type something as you don't have to think about consequences. If I was at the simply snakes booth at a show and we had the same exact exchange do you believe for one second that he would have said that to me as I left after I thanked him? I would be willing to wager he would not.

What I meant above was this thread and threads like it. It is stupid. I should not have posted it here. I should have told him what an ass I thought he was, blocked his email and been done. Instead I did those things and then was already here so I posted it. What is done can not be undone.

Alvaro, thanks. I am here. Frustrated yes. I am tired of being attacked and not getting apologies when I deserve them. I am angry that nobody is motivated to take care of the improtant business at hand. Since more people are reading this than the legal noticies I will say it here. Fight now for your rights to keep reptiles. Links labeled "Fight anti reptile legislation" on the home pages of both the following sites have sign up sheets for your info that will be forwarded to people in your state to fight legislation. It is much more important than this crap. If you have wasted your time reading this thread please take 30 seconds to fill out the form.

Thanks Alex. Hope you are doing OK. You are one of the good guys that I mentioned earlier who was attacked and slandered on this board by somebody that was a liar. You did not deserve it. Evan

The AD SAYS FIRM. You should not waste peoples time.

If I got something like this.....I would have been PISSED.
What is wrong with asking?
All you are doing is telling a future customer that he is nothing but a waste of your valuable time. It tells your customer that his/her question is not that important.

Would I have replied with EVAN's e-mail....PROBABLY not. But I would have written something to knock the seller of his pedestal.

Would I have written this thread on the BOI? DEFINATELY not.
But if there was a thread on the person.....I may add to it and tell people.....I may....then again I may not.

p.s. Just because people often end up having the same opinions does not mean they are ganging up on anyone.

Ritchie,

I agree totally on this one. There is NO harm in asking. I cant tell you how many times, over the last 13 years I had "firm" on my prices, only to get flooded with emails of lower offers. My responses are always the same.

Thanks for the offer, but my price is firm.

Im sorry, but I dont want to hear that "Im very busy" excuse. Thats BS. I work 3rd shift from 11PM-7AM, watch my 4 kids during the day (3 are under 4yrs of age by the way), then clean cages and answer emails. I get about 4-5 hours sleep in the afternoon and start it all back over again the next day. BTW, I also work the reptile show 1 Saturday a month on top. So, dont tell me about being to busy. I dont buy it. I still have 2 minutes to send the reply I qouted above. That may make all the difference in the world. 2 freaking minutes !!

I would have never sent the reply "Simply Snakes" sent. Why ? That same person you just treated without any respect may very well come back and buy it anyways OR something else at a later time. Why make a comment like that ?? Not very professional.

Now give the dog his due. Evan's response to that was a overboard. That's Evans style not mine. Personally if I were Evan in the deal, I would of never responded back at all, and just made a mental note never to give my hard earned cash or even my time to these people. Same would be true if I had something for sale and they contacted me. They can keep their money.

Want a example: A few months back I made a offer to Evan that involved trade/cash. Evan clearly stated that he wasnt taking trades on that snake. Evan's response was he wanted the cash and thanked me for the offer. Thats professional in my book. If he came back with: CASH ONLY thanks for wasting my time. Evan would of lost a future customer right then and there.

2 things happened here that were wrong. "Simply Snakes" comment and Evan's follow up temper email. I know Evan and the dudes got a temper and this is how he reacts. Thats his personality and can respect that. I just chose other ways to fight my battles I guess. Some people like Evan chose to use a gun. Its loud and makes a awful mess. Some rather use poison. Its quite and takes longer. But the end result is still the same.

So with that mumbo jumbo being said. BOTH should just come back and apologize. You never know what that other person can possibly offer you in the future. Why damage that over something so silly ???? Think about it.

I would assume that atleast 80% of "FIRM" prices do get changed
Scott Axle, if you have this same assumption when you get to a STOP sign, which you assume you slow down 80% and then roll over it, I bet you will get a ticket for running STOP sign. When will we learn NO means NO not may be; STOP means STOP not slow down; and FIRM means FIRM?
And Evan, before you ask SimpleSnake learn how to read your email, perhaps you should learn how to read their ad with "price is FIRM"
Just to clear up, I don't know either parties. It's just my opinion on this issue. I remember 2 years ago, I was on my way to buy a pair of Brazillian Amaralis from a guy local. There was a bad accident on my way, which delay me 10 minutes. I gave him a call 2 minutes before our scheduled appointment, and he gave me a 5 minutes lecture on the phone that I should gave myself sometime so that I can get to my appointment earlier or at least on time. I felt mad, but it was my fault. NO EXCUSE. I still decided to met him afterward, though, and I was rewarded w/ a very nice pair of Amaralis w/ an unbelivable price. Someone tell me "Customer is always right" but I think buyer reserve the right to sell, and customer reserve the right to buy. We all grown up, and don't need to cuz other off just because we didn't get thing on our benefit. A rude seller MAY loose potential buyer(s), but he doesn't deserve to be called name like "pathetic" on this post, or an unprofessional email like the one Evan's responsed. I can't believe that after Evan send them such email, he has the nerve to come here and posted such a post.

We would like to thank the all the people who have sent us numerous emails telling us they think this is absurd.

Time for this to stop though.

Evan - I am sorry that you took offense to my email.

Enough said.

Alex,

In regards to your statement
Otherwise maybe simply snakes and other sellers should put " price is firm, no haggle no hassle, pay what we're asking or don't buy, don't email or call us unless you're gonna pay what we're asking" into their ads !?
That is exactly what PRICE IS FIRM means. If a person wants to haggles or deal they don't put that on their ad.

Also I don't really care if 80% of some are willing to deal if their prices state firm but firm means that is the price take it or leave it.
Hell I make offers on animals that are for sale all the time, but if I see an ad that CLEARLY states the price is firm like this one I don't even bother to make an offer or try and make a deal. If I feel the animal is worth that price I pay it or if not I walk away from the deal. It is not that hard to understand.

Scott Axle,
an Axle is something you find on a car, train, truck..etc.. my name is AXEL.. please take the time to properly address me.

I can't say that after getting my last name wrong.. that I was surprised by your pointless example. a STOP sign is something legal.. the government controls us stopping there (I have a ticket to prove it). "FIRM" is a prespective. As I stated in my earlier post to this thread, which from the poor spelling of my name, you obviously didn't comprehend what I was saying. I would assume the majority of "FIRM" offers are the opposite of that, and in most cases the price can be lowered or negotiated. Evan sent an email inquiring about the price.

From a salesman point of view, SimplySnakes did a horrible sell. Yes, the price for that herp is outrageously high.. he could have replied "price is firm because..." and then stated why this monitor is worth the above stated price. Who knows why its worth that much.. SimplySnakes made no attempt to justify the price. Maybe it has a great trait, is a proven breeder, is puppy tame.. who knows.. but.. if they would have justified the reason for the price.. maybe Evan would have bought. Instead of actually selling the sale..they chose to be rude... and that to me.. is truely pathetic.

Nicely done with the apology Paul. :)

With regards to the "firmness" of the price, I would agree that in general if it says price is firm and I can't afford it, I will not even bother to inquire. But there are sometimes gray areas. For some sellers (myself) included) there's sometimes a little room for negotiating. It might be even for the benefit of both parties. Even though you feel it is worth that much you recognize it's not going to be easy to find the client, shipping is costly, etc. Sometimes sellers offer an herp for sale at a given price (in this example $1,000) and state the price is firm hoping people will not bother with ridiculous offers (like a 50% rebate for example) or trades (20 WC female ball pythons for example). Now if the offer is serious enough like someone has saved $900 and is willing to PayPal right away it might be a different story. Just my opinion.

Regards.

Scott,

On your comment
From a salesman point of view, SimplySnakes did a horrible sell. Yes, the price for that herp is outrageously high.. he could have replied "price is firm because..." and then stated why this monitor is worth the above stated price.
They do not have to explain why they have the animal priced at what they do. A seller has every right to price an animal as they see fit. It is ridiculous that someone would think that the seller has to justify their price or reasoning to anyone else. Again if you don't like a price of an animal then go some where else for your purchase. I get it all the time from people. They don't like that I have an animal priced at what I feel the animal is worth and they get upset because I won't sell it to them cheaper. These people need to just go some where else if they don't like my prices. They have no right to tell me what I can or can not sell my animals for, nor does anyone have the right to tell SimplySnakes what they can or can not sell their Monitor for.
