In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Dennis,

Good question. Just because the ads are closed doesn't mean they don't contain the keywords that search engines seek out. What closing does though is to prevent newbies from being ridiculed for answering an ad for hatchlings from 2004 (ridiculing newbies being another "topic" of this thread).

Thanks.
Well, if the ad is closed do you think it deters newbies from registering and posting? Do they bother to look around the site wants they realize they can't address the ad that brought them here? Maybe, we should look at if it is even important to address people that post on old ads.

Another good question. I'd guess that if they answer an ad from 2004 and get ridiculed for it then they will likely not return. On the other hand if they see that the ad in question is locked but the search function is available to them after they register and log in, maybe they will find a more recent ad to which they can respond.

I think you're right.

I know it can be irritating but I'm trying to look at it from the point of view of someone who just caught the ad on a search engine. I have addressed many new posters that have posted to old ads but I have to wonder what impression that gives.

For instance, something about a new poster caught my eye. They were running around addressing everyone that posted on old ads stating things like "why don't you read the dates?" being somewhat degrading in some of the comments. Now, we are use to seeing members that have been here for some time doing this but not from someone that just joined and automatically targeting others in the classifieds.

Well, come to find out the person registered before and made a post to an old classified ad. I posted to that person that the ad was old and to check the dates before posting. This person didn't post again under that username and full name that they registered under the first time.

So, now we have a member posting not under their real name in the discussion forums and chat.
They haven't posted on the BOI and haven't violated any site rules so I'm reluctant to call them on it.
Now obviously people react differently but I can't help but wonder how much people get embarrassed about the fact that we pointed out that they posted to a old ad and they just don't come back.

I think it is tactful not to make a big deal out of the old ad thing, but I think it is OK to mention it because the person may not have noticed and may actually be expecting the vendor to answer.
Regardless, the concern Dennis is showing for the points of view of others will go a long way in making this a more welcome place to be.

I still remember my first time coming to fauna few years back
In my experience it wasnt the classifieds that brought me here although i regulary check them
It was the search for new information(care) and the BOI that brought me here and kept me coming back
I really didnt like the drama at first but it grew on me now i cant seem to see enough of it
I beleive that most people do NOT make their first purchase of a pet ONLINE they see a cool (Pet here)at the local pet show or swap meet or freinds house buy it on an impulse and then work from there by searching out more INFORMATION on the care and husbandry of their new pet
So if this site provides FREINDLY information and the BOI basicaly tell them who not to buy from then this is the BEST site on the net
but the attacks on New people should NOT be condoned as it should be obvious to anyone that that would in the very least drive some potential Contributers AWAY from this site!

But what do i know Rich made this site i just come to it

Good pick up Wes. I had begun to wonder but I can confirm that the person is Dennis Dynes.

Dennis,

I suggest you not use an ID with a fake name to post on the BOI.

His old login is still fined and suspended... Doubt this one will stay here long. Really colors that post he made though, eh? Hilarity ensues!

:ack2: I guess I have to take that back. Bypassing the suspension gets you banned and your IP address blocked. Hope you had a nice visit....

I thought that the user name "llort" was odd. Now of course I realize what it is.

He could have done better than to use the email "ddynes@******.com". That, and the fact that the birth dates were identical, gave it away.

OK, obviously Dennis Dynes has some history here on Fauna. Not being familiar with his chapter in this novel, just what is the significance of the user name llort? It seemed like an unusual moniker to me as well.

Thanks,

"llort" is troll spelled backwards.

Dennis is a troll. Follow the link to his old profile and look at some of his last posts and you will get an idea.

Edit: Harald, you beat me to an explanation.
