Spammers are getting more and more clever all of the time, apparently. So I have to get tougher with the hoops new registrations will have to jump through in order to register here. It's nothing that any legitimate person would even blink at, but those fields in the registration process that are answered with what looks like bogus entries, or things like the location doesn't match what the IP address is telling me, will have me looking closer at the registration and possible blocking the registration.
People being flip with those field entries will also raise a red flag, and anything else that looks suspicious will have them being blocked as well. It is probably pretty unlikely to find "John Doe" living on Mars...
Prospective members may want to make certain that emails issued from [email protected] will not be blocked by your ISP as well, as bounced emails and failed email verification checks will flag those attempted registrations as being suspicious.
Proxy IP addresses will also be more closely scrutinized along with the above, so bear that in mind. If you wish to be completely anonymous on the web, this likely is not the website for you if you wish to participate in most sections of it. Yes, people can just make up false names, but myself and the mods will be scrutinizing such cases more closely when they are found, and will take appropriate action as needed.
In a like vein, pretty shortly I may be instituting a policy whereby the FULL NAME rule that is applied to the BOI will be extended to cover the classifieds sections as well. Notices will also be placed warning people to consider avoiding doing business if the name they are sending their money to does not match the name on their account here. And vice versa. If you are doing business with someone who appears to have reason to hide their identity, then you may want to be a bit cautious about how you handle that transaction.
I also suggest that anyone doing business with someone on this site who determines that a false name has been used in registration to please notify the mods or myself, preferably by using the REPORT A POST function, so we can be made aware of this.
This has not been implemented yet, but expect that to happen shortly.
Now that I am retired, I will have a bit more time to play around with things here..... ( Heck, I can actually hear GROANS from some people.....)
But hey, I can't let myself get bored now, can I?
