I don't own a pet shop, nor do i shop in one for animals any longer, but i am curious as to why pet shops would want to carry and offer for sale, wild caught imported animals when there are so many breeders in the country these days who could use the business and offer captive bred. I would think that most people who go to a pet shop who were educated there as to why they should pay a bit more for captive bred verses wild caught would be willing to go the extra dollar. I think from a business stand point, the wholesalers who do a poor job with their animals continue to do so because there are many people willing to spend their money there and call it a day.
I would think that instead of complaining, if the pet shops or resellers took the approach of not doing business with anyone who's animals were not healthy and who's business's did not do a good job with shipping, the people selling the infested, sick, wild caught imports would end up having to straighten out their businesses or go out of business. Right now with the economy the way it is, why not support american breeders and not purchase wild caught imports.
BTW: the book The Lizard King was a great read. I highly reccommend it
