In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Strictly Reptiles inc. (Inquiry)

Gotcha...before they have a chance to infect them, like that woman who used to work at the pet shop said they're better the shorter time SR has them.

When dealing with reptiles at large shops like Stricklys or any other place that snakes go in and out every day their is always a chance of mites or "worse" spreading. I've been told places like this also take peoples collections snakes that the owners dump at the first sign of trouble. One reason I buy CB babies but that doesn't work out all the time either... It is what it is.

:iagree:

That's a chance you take with most those large reptile Dealers/shops, that's why I like to get there when they get their stuff in.

I don't buy that. I don't care how many animals you move, if you can't do it in the proper way with the necessary acclimation/quarentine techniques as well as doing preventative mite/bacterial treatments then you should not be in the business of working with animals.

That's how some of these large shops do it. (Not just Stricklys) People call them up, hey I am looking for this or that and their response is, I have a shipment coming in next Friday. I agree, it sort of sucks. I have gone to some of these shops ad seen them use preventive products but that doesn't mean anything besides they try to prevent. SO on one hand they do as you state they should (I don't know about Stricklys however but I have seen it in other "Big Shops". Now if you want them to take each and every snake they get and quarantine them for 60 to 90 days before they sell them, that's just not going to happen. Many snakes are out the door and making them money before they are even placed in a holding tub. As buyers, we should be aware of this and should know how it is. We do have choices however... it's up to you. But in many cases (At least with Venomous) you have to go through these large shops at times. It is what it is.

I understand that. I own a pet store (though obviously smaller). I am unable to pay for a 60 day quarentine as well. However, I do quarentine until feeding has been established and I get a chance to perform a thorough mite check at nite with a red light, as well as prevent treating each animal for a wide array and each cage.

Beyond that it comes down to who you buy from. Places need to be more picky where they get their animals.

I don't own a pet shop, nor do i shop in one for animals any longer, but i am curious as to why pet shops would want to carry and offer for sale, wild caught imported animals when there are so many breeders in the country these days who could use the business and offer captive bred. I would think that most people who go to a pet shop who were educated there as to why they should pay a bit more for captive bred verses wild caught would be willing to go the extra dollar. I think from a business stand point, the wholesalers who do a poor job with their animals continue to do so because there are many people willing to spend their money there and call it a day.

I would think that instead of complaining, if the pet shops or resellers took the approach of not doing business with anyone who's animals were not healthy and who's business's did not do a good job with shipping, the people selling the infested, sick, wild caught imports would end up having to straighten out their businesses or go out of business. Right now with the economy the way it is, why not support american breeders and not purchase wild caught imports.

BTW: the book The Lizard King was a great read. I highly reccommend it

I'm sure if Stricklys or anyone else got a snake with mites or any other health problems obvious at the time would refuse them. The problems are also hard to see (Some people dump at the first sign of trouble).

At least with Venomous, it's not as easy to find breeders as it is for many non-venomous stuff. Imports are your only option many times. I only buy CB babies, that can't always be the case but as a rule...

I agree for the most part.

The problem with it is though, that people are not on a whole very educated, and those that are are often just plain cheap and unwilling to pay for a thing. Those that are are usually like yourself and avoid pet stores because of the stigma attached. This is the real predicament that I have encountered with what I do, which is essentially what you outlined there.

Some stores would readily accept disease if they get the right price. I can point to a local store here as an example, but because they have the ability to push tiger retics at 100.00 or albino burms at 50.00 they are the most successful reptile store in this state, because people look at one thing: price.

My only real problem with pet stores is that they usually have a high markup (I understand why) on animals and products. I live in Florida so it's almost easy for me to find a show and buy the same snake for half the cost, same goes with supplies. I do however support the local reptile shop from time to time, we need them in our community.

And I agree. Some where, some place, someone will always try and make a buck.

it is a shame that the most successful store is the one that sells only on price and offering potentially sick or infested animals. I guess at that point, people get what they pay for and should not complain about the wholesalers who buy and sell the sick and infested animals along with the healthy ones. Unless people are willing to get together to make a statement, there is no reason for any importer or wholesaler to adjust the way they treat their animals or do business.

Just wondering if anyone has purchased lately, and if the quality has picked up a bit?
Im thinking of getting a few things from them...
Jackson cham, niger uromastyx, skunk geckos, and a halmahera... but just wanna see if its gonna be worth it!
Thanks!

Ray sr or Mike have always been good to work with!!! I HAVE SUPPLIED THEM TURTLES for years and also puchased reptiles from them never had a problem! Just remember they are a big us supplier and have allot of customers,So make your order clear!!

We are a family owned wholesale company based in Pa. We sell to pet shops and jobbers/show vendors. We only send healthy animals. We try and makesure all animals are panacured and or checked for parasites before shipping and we treat all are animals with respect by doing are best to provide them with adaquit housing and proper lighting. We also have work really hard at finding good exporters who send quality animals as well. We ship anywere in the U.S. As for stricklys I was in between import orders and needed to fill some tables at a local show so I did an order with them to fill my tables I know it sound odd. lol. I'd say 50 / 50 the iguanas wouldn't eat at all for me. The asian box turtles were severly dehydrated and died and all the red eyes and white lip frogs got bacterial infection within 4 or 5hrs of arriving if they didn't already have it. But some of the animals were in good shape tiger salamanders were great, painted woods were good, red foots and a few other things were ok. But in the end I'd say I broke even maybe. Oh and they shorted both my orders and never credit me back. Well if your interested in checking out are wholesale list email me at [email protected] I'd be happy to help you out. And if I can't I can forward you to some other wholesalers that are good guys.

Ive been dealing with Mike and Ray since before strictly when they ran Petfarm... Mike used to be a hot head at times, but both him and Ray sr. are straight up Good People ! Back in the early 90's when i was managing Wonderful World Pet Suppliers w/ Dave Breen I ordered large shipments every week from them and several other importers etc.. I always got good stuff from them to resell and any issues were quickly resolved.. when I started my own wholesale business, I also ordered weekly from them and relied on them to help keep me in business. I always got top notch stuff, cause back then I had a picker, but with ANY wholesaler walk in customers who can cherrypick as stuff comes in will always get the best stuff. If it werent for Strictly many of the animals we have available to work with today would have never been available, ive gotten stuff from them, never seen before or since.
The belly achers on here should just get their stuff from breeders or retail cherry pickers like Glades Herp or Mark Lucas etc and pay a premium price for premium animals. Big Wholesale Warehouses are what they are - the good the bad and the ugly all in one jmo.

Hello..I do alot of cherry picking (live reptile orders) for several customers here in Florida (miami, Ft. lauderdale) USA.
If you want, i can cherry pick for you also at Strictly, 2amigos, Emerald coral, etc. I charge 15% of your total purchase ..For example a $1000 order, I charge $150. and you get the best looking, healthiest animals. Let me know if you are interested. My name is Tom.
