    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Sub sahara ball python

I just took a look at my hold back YB female from YB male x "Subsaharan" female.

She was born in June. She's 470 grams and as long as my arm.

For reference, my female firefly was born in June, eats the same amount of food, and is 250 grams.

Maybe I'm a boa guy here, and I have no interest in keeping or breeding bps, but I had to read this. All ball pythons are sub-saharan. This sounds like a selling gimmick to me.

Just got her Thursday last week. She has pretty large follicles. We'll be ultrasounding hopefully next week. I'm hoping she mated in the wild, and that she'll have a bunch of volts giants or subsaharan giants, however people want to name them. To any nay-sayers, it's absolutely, without question a MUCH larger than regular ball python. I can't wait for her to get really big!

For all we know, it's just her age that makes her large.

Another large, reproducing female yanked out of the wild for the sake of the almighty dollar. So sad.

I dont think that is the case as I have seen 20 yr old pythons. Yes they are big but the head is not as big as I have seen on these.

I've kept females over 3000 grams in 48x32x18" enclosures. I enjoy seeing the big girls stretch out though. With bigger snakes come bigger rodents and it was a lot less stressful for me to watch them have plenty of room to make a clean kill.

As for the sub-saharan debate, I'm not sure what the deal is, but I know I have seen some giant ball pythons that swamp my biggest girls, more than double the size. I don't know why, but if we saw this with other animals, say horses twice the size as normal, it would definitely stem some interest.

Thanks Nick for the advice on tub dimensions. Time will tell hopefully in 3 or 4 yrs I can see If this " big gene" gets passed to others or the naysayers are right there is no such thing as a giant ball

I'm also quite skeptical as the this whole situation. I would still like to see this head though. I have a 4000+ gram girl who is just a monster but IMO she is just a big ball.

Im gonna pull few older female balls I have. My oldest is about 14 now she is maxed out as far as size not much has changed with her in a few yrs. I'm gonna try to get side by side shots. Hopefully wife will help with this. I gotta go out and ship out few balls after work. After I make and eat dinner I will snap some pics.

Here is a shot when I put her in her tub. There is not a whole lot to compare her to. Hopefully wife helps me snap some pics tonight

Just for an idea, here's a shot of the head of mine. She really is way bigger than a regular ball. I can't believe people have to question this so much just because the name of "sub saharan" or "Volta" was given to it. I guess you just have to see it in person to understand...oh well.

I had several just depends on what region they were collected who really know where they came from "but they all come from sub saharen africa"

Yes we know that but that seems to be the name that stuck does it make sense no. But do half the names made up for snakes make sense. When u say sub sahara snake most people know that it refers to. Big ball

just for fun, heres my vid of a large girl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcSCH7Ndb7c
she produced this girl

I would be interested, ok, not really, but I wonder if all the big females called Sub Saharan come from the same location, or, based on their age, are just a group of large older females that someone slapped a marketing name on? I think ripping older female Balls out of the wild is a shame....but the practice will continue as long as their are buyers.
