In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Suprised I have never run into this problem before

So my new patternless rock and I have been doing very well together and he is settling in nicely, and havent had any issues with him until yesterday. I had fed him late on saturday night/sunday morning and then went to bed. He is in my bedroom with me and cant see when I am in my bed, unless he tries since my bed is on the floor and his cage is up on the dresser. Well I got up late and kind of got up quick and startled him a bit. He actually fired a quick defensive strike into the side of the vision. He hit himself so hard that he somehow has some of his bottom teeth stuck in his own bottom jaw. He can still open his mouth and function normally, but the teeth dont want to come dislodged. I grabbed him last night and tried to fix the problem but he had my arm wrapped so tight it was difficult to maintain my grip and to work in his mouth with my one free hand. Is this something that will work it self out, or should I take him to my friends tonight and have him help me get it undone?? Someone said to me "well if they were in the wild I am sure it would correct itself", but how many snakes in the wild are striking at glass lol??? Probably not too many. I just dont want him to get an infection or anything. I will clean his mouth out once the problem is solved one way or another, just looking for some input. I would say I would take him to the vet, but the last time I was at the vet lol they asked me if I would be willing to come in and probe snakes and help them with stuff from time to time and thats scares me a little....they went to school for this stuff not me(I was taking my dog by the way not one of the snakes)! Anyways just looking for any ideas as it is really stuck, I tried for 15 minutes last night and couldnt get it undone. He was pretty behaved all things considered, no hissing, no musking or any of that crap just "killed" my hand the entire time trying to free himself to make me pay dearly hahaha. Thanks, Dan M.

I've had large boas do that several times. First time I ever saw it I nearly freaked out thinking he had broken his lower jaw on the glass.

However, the times I've had it happen, the teeth weren't firmly lodged and by the next morning all was normal.
If he is still that way tonight, I'd take him over to your friends place or have him come to you, and get some help to unhook the teeth.

There shouldn't be any long term effects, but if somehow the teeth are stuck either in the flesh or just within each other, then they may not come loose on their own.

Thanks for the input.... I have seen this happen immediately after eating and such but usually they open up stretch the jaw and get it all aligned. I am trying to find a ride to my friends tonight as we speak....this being with out a car thing is really getting on my nerves...good news is I get my new car this upcoming weekend. Thanks again, Dan M.

Speculas.

How big is he? Specifically how thick is he? How familiar are you with the concept of "tubing" as a handling technique? Usually used to control and contain the head of venomous species when you need to work physically with something midbody or lower, advance the snake through the tube and you have the body controlled and the head exposed- there are obviously limits to how wide and long a tube you can use as a handling tool though; bigger boids quickly become too thick to fit in any three-five foot tube you can conveniently find or too long to actually be controlled with that three-five foot length.

If he's on the smaller side though, tube him, advance him so that his head is exposed at the far end, use a specula to open the mouth and go to town.

That is something I actually considered, as he is in the 6 foot range and a prefect canidate for this. The issue is I dont have a tube or anyway of getting somewhere to get one. I dont have a car at the time and the closest store is about a 7 mile hike each way at least, and I doubt they would even have anything. Its been a challenge just getting back and forth to work everyday. My friends are flaky at best....one was supposed to get me last night and take me to my friends house to give me a hand but she never showed. I will have my new car this weekend if all goes as planned, but until then I was hoping to find someway of doing this myself from home with what I have. Thanks for the input though, its definately a great idea, Dan M.

In good news I got a ride to my friends house last night and we got him all taken care of. He was pretty well behaved once again (a few bluffs and two actual mouth open strikes) but all in all he was a very good boy. It turns out he had his teeth through his own "lips" on both the top and the bottom, and was quite a hassle to get them out, but he is all set, back to normal and such. He only lost 1 or 2 teeth, so no big deal. I'm giving him a few days without food and then I will let him eat maybe saturday. Dan M. Thanks for the input!

I don't know if you keep any on hand or not, but considering there were punctures inside the mouth, I'd rinse it out once a day for 3-4 days with a weak betadine solution, just to make sure no complications developed.

Glad he's ok.

O yeah...all that stuff is around and his mouth did get washed out just in case. Everything looked good while we were in there, but always try to be on the safe side. I am beyond perplexed as how he did it especially after getting a good glimpse at it, but at least its taken care of and he is relaxing. Thanks again, Dan M.

Having a lot of time with patternless rocks (or rocks in general) I have seen this happen on several occasions. It's actually sort of goofy looking, but can be a pain in the butt to undo.

Patrick

Yeah Patrick this was all your fault lol...you should have brought him up with a little more respect then to try and bite me lol. He has eaten since and a rabbit once at that so I think he is doing alright. By the way he still hasnt gone into shed lol. I am convinced he doesnt shed, its been over 6 weeks that I have had him and god knows how much he has eaten...the one rabbit and at least 7 or 8 rats (good sized rats too). Dan M.

That's crazy!! He should have shed by now, especially with the way that you have been pounding him with food!! That's just unheard of!! Although, I think he did she pretty close to the shipping date, so it might come soon enough.
